1. When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as judges over Israel.

3. However, his sons did not walk in his ways-- they turned toward dishonest gain, took bribes, and perverted justice.

4. So all the elders of Israel gathered together and went to Samuel at Ramah.

5. They said to him, 'Look, you are old, and your sons do not follow your example. Therefore, appoint a king to judge us the same as all the other nations have.'

6. When they said, 'Give us a king to judge us,' Samuel considered their demand sinful, so he prayed to the LORD.

7. But the LORD told him, 'Listen to the people and everything they say to you. They have rejected you; they have rejected Me as their king.

8. நான் அவர்களை எகிப்திலிருந்து புறப்படப்பண்ணின நாள்முதல் இந்நாள்மட்டும் அவர்கள் என்னைவிட்டு, வேறே தேவர்களைச் சேவித்துவந்த தங்கள் எல்லாச் செய்கைகளின்படியும் செய்ததுபோல, அவர்கள் உனக்கும் செய்கிறார்கள்.

8. They are doing the same thing to you that they have done to Me, since the day I brought them out of Egypt until this day, abandoning Me and worshiping other gods.

9. Listen to them, but you must solemnly warn them and tell them about the rights of the king who will rule over them.'

10. அப்பொழுது சாமுவேல், ஒரு ராஜா வேண்டும் என்று தன்னிடத்தில் கேட்ட ஜனங்களுக்குக் கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தைகளையெல்லாம் சொல்லி:

10. Samuel told all the LORD's words to the people who were asking him for a king.

11. உங்களை ஆளும் ராஜாவின் காரியம் என்னவென்றால், தன் ரதத்திற்கு முன் ஓடும்படி அவன் உங்கள் குமாரரை எடுத்து, தன் ரதசாரதிகளாகவும் தன் குதிரை வீரராகவும் வைத்துக்கொள்ளுவான்.

11. He said, 'These are the rights of the king who will rule over you: He can take your sons and put them to his use in his chariots, on his horses, or running in front of his chariots.

12. ஆயிரம் பேருக்கும் ஐம்பது பேருக்கும் தலைவராகவும், தன் நிலத்தை உழுகிறவர்களாகவும், தன் விளைச்சலை அறுக்கிறவர்களாகவும், தன் யுத்த ஆயுதங்களையும் தன் ரதங்களின் பணிமுட்டுகளையும் பண்ணுகிறவர்களாகவும், அவர்களை வைத்துக்கொள்ளுவான்.

12. He can appoint them for his use as commanders of thousands or commanders of fifties, to plow his ground or reap his harvest, or to make his weapons of war or the equipment for his chariots.

13. உங்கள் குமாரத்திகளைப் பரிமளதைலம் செய்கிறவர்களாகவும், சமையல்பண்ணுகிறவர்களாகவும், அப்பம் சுடுகிறவர்களாகவும் வைத்துக்கொள்ளுவான்.

13. He can take your daughters to become perfumers, cooks, and bakers.

14. உங்கள் வயல்களிலும், உங்கள் திராட்சத்தோட்டங்களிலும், உங்கள் ஒலிவத்தோப்புக்களிலும், நல்லவைகளை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு, தன் ஊழியக்காரருக்குக் கொடுப்பான்.

14. He can take your best fields, vineyards, and olive orchards and give them to his servants.

15. உங்கள் தானியத்திலும் உங்கள் திராட்சப்பலனிலும் தசமபாகம் வாங்கி, தன் பிரதானிகளுக்கும் தன் சேவகர்களுக்கும் கொடுப்பான்.

15. He can take a tenth of your grain and your vineyards and give them to his officials and servants.

16. உங்கள் வேலைக்காரரையும், உங்கள் வேலைக்காரிகளையும், உங்களில் திறமையான வாலிபரையும், உங்கள் கழுதைகளையும் எடுத்து தன்னுடைய வேலைக்கு வைத்துக்கொள்ளுவான்.

16. He can take your male servants, your female servants, your best young men, and your donkeys and use them for his work.

17. உங்கள் ஆடுகளிலே பத்தில் ஒன்று எடுத்துக்கொள்ளுவான்; நீங்கள் அவனுக்கு வேலையாட்களாவீர்கள்.

17. He can take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves can become his servants.

18. நீங்கள் தெரிந்துகொண்ட உங்கள் ராஜாவினிமித்தம் அந்நாளிலே முறையிடுவீர்கள்; ஆனாலும் கர்த்தர் அந்நாளிலே உங்களுக்குச் செவிகொடுக்கமாட்டார் என்றான்.

18. When that day comes, you will cry out because of the king you've chosen for yourselves, but the LORD won't answer you on that day.'

19. ஜனங்கள் சாமுவேலின் சொல்லைக் கேட்க மனதில்லாமல்: அப்படியல்ல, எங்களுக்கு ஒரு ராஜா இருக்கத்தான் வேண்டும்.

19. The people refused to listen to Samuel. 'No!' they said. 'We must have a king over us.

20. சகல ஜாதிகளையும்போல நாங்களும் இருப்போம்; எங்கள் ராஜா எங்களை நியாயம் விசாரித்து, எங்களுக்கு முன்பாகப் புறப்பட்டு, எங்கள் யுத்தங்களை நடத்தவேண்டும் என்றார்கள்.

20. Then we'll be like all the other nations: our king will judge us, go out before us, and fight our battles.'

21. சாமுவேல் ஜனங்களின் வார்த்தைகளையெல்லாம் கேட்டு, அவைகளைக் கர்த்தரிடத்தில் தெரியப்படுத்தினான்.

21. Samuel listened to all the people's words and then repeated them to the LORD.

22. கர்த்தர் சாமுவேலை நோக்கி: நீ அவர்கள் சொல்லைக் கேட்டு, அவர்களை ஆள ஒரு ராஜாவை ஏற்படுத்து என்றார்; அப்பொழுது சாமுவேல் இஸ்ரவேல் ஜனங்களைப் பார்த்து: அவரவர் தங்கள் ஊர்களுக்குப் போகலாம் என்றான்.

22. 'Listen to them,' the LORD told Samuel. 'Appoint a king for them.' Then Samuel told the men of Israel, 'Each of you, go back to your city.'
