1. இஸ்ரவேலில் ராஜா இல்லாத அந்நாட்களிலே, எப்பிராயீம் மலைகள் அருகே பரதேசியாய்த் தங்கின ஒரு லேவியன் இருந்தான்; அவன் யூதாவிலுள்ள பெத்லெகேம் ஊராளாகிய ஒரு ஸ்திரீயைத் தனக்கு மறுமனையாட்டியாகக் கொண்டிருந்தான்.

1. Now in those days, when there was no king in Israel, a certain Levite was living in the inmost parts of the hill-country of Ephraim, and he got for himself a servant-wife from Beth-lehem-judah.

2. அவள் அவனுக்குத் துரோகமாய் விபசாரம்பண்ணி, அவனை விட்டு, யூதா தேசத்துப் பெத்லெகேம் ஊரிலிருக்கிற தன் தகப்பன் வீட்டுக்குப் போய், அங்கே நாலு மாதம் வரைக்கும் இருந்தாள்.

2. And his servant-wife was angry with him, and went away from him to her father's house at Beth-lehem-judah, and was there for four months.

3. அவள் புருஷன் அவளோடே நலவு சொல்லவும், அவளைத் திரும்ப அழைத்து வரவும், இரண்டு கழுதைகளை ஆயத்தப்படுத்தி, தன் வேலைக்காரனைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, அவளிடத்துக்குப் போனான்; அப்பொழுது அவள் அவனைத் தன் தகப்பன் வீட்டுக்கு அழைத்துக்கொண்டு போனாள்; ஸ்திரீயின் தகப்பன் அவனைக்கண்டபோது சந்தோஷமாய் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு,

3. Then her husband got up and went after her, with the purpose of talking kindly to her, and taking her back with him; he had with him his young man and two asses: and she took him into her father's house, and her father, when he saw him, came forward to him with joy.

4. ஸ்திரீயின் தகப்பனாகிய அவனுடைய மாமன் அவனை இருத்திக்கொண்டதினால், மூன்றுநாள் அவனோடிருந்தான்; அவர்கள் அங்கே புசித்துக் குடித்து இராத்தங்கினார்கள்.

4. And his father-in-law, the girl's father, kept him there for three days; and they had food and drink and took their rest there.

5. நாலாம்நாள் காலமே அவர்கள் எழுந்திருந்தபோது, அவன் பிரயாணப்படுகையில், ஸ்திரீயின் தகப்பன் தன் மருமகனை நோக்கி: கொஞ்சம் அப்பம் புசித்து, உன் மனதைத் தேற்றிக்கொள்; பிற்பாடு நீங்கள் போகலாம் என்றான்.

5. Now on the fourth day they got up early in the morning and he made ready to go away; but the girl's father said to his son-in-law, Take a little food to keep up your strength, and then go on your way.

6. அவர்கள் உட்கார்ந்து, இருவரும் கூடப் புசித்துக் குடித்தார்கள்; ஸ்திரீயின் தகப்பன் அந்த மனுஷனைப் பார்த்து: நீ தயவுசெய்து, உன் இருதயம் மகிழ்ச்சியடைய இராத்திரிக்கும் இரு என்றான்.

6. So seating themselves they had food and drink, the two of them together; and the girl's father said to the man, If it is your pleasure, take your rest here tonight, and let your heart be glad.

7. அப்படியே போகிறதற்கு அந்த மனுஷன் எழுந்தபோது, அவனுடைய மாமன் அவனை வருந்திக்கொண்டதினால், அவன் அன்று இராத்திரியும் அங்கே இருந்தான்.

7. And the man got up to go away, but his father-in-law would not let him go, so he took his rest there again for the night.

8. ஐந்தாம் நாளிலே அவன் போகிறதற்கு அதிகாலமே எழுந்திருந்தபோது, ஸ்திரீயின் தகப்பன்: இருந்து உன் இருதயத்தைத் தேற்றிக்கொள் என்றான்; அப்படியே அந்திநேரமட்டும் தாமதித்திருந்து, இருவரும் போஜனம்பண்ணினார்கள்.

8. Then early on the morning of the fifth day he got up to go away; but the girl's father said, Keep up your strength; so the two of them had a meal, and the man and his woman and his servant did not go till after the middle of the day.

9. பின்பு அவனும், அவன் மறுமனையாட்டியும், அவன் வேலைக்காரனும் போகிறதற்கு எழுந்திருந்தபோது, ஸ்திரீயின் தகப்பனாகிய அவனுடைய மாமன்: இதோ, பொழுது அஸ்தமிக்கப்போகிறது, சாயங்காலமுமாயிற்று; இங்கே இராத்திரிக்கு இருங்கள்; பார், மாலைமயங்குகிற வேளையாயிற்று: உன் இருதயம் சந்தோஷமாயிருக்கும்படி, இங்கே இராத்தங்கி நாளை இருட்டோடே எழுந்திருந்து, உன் வீட்டுக்குப் போகலாம் என்றான்.

9. And when they got up to go away, his father-in-law, the girl's father, said to him, Now evening is coming on, so do not go tonight; see, the day is almost gone; take your rest here and let your heart be glad, and tomorrow early, go on your way back to your house.

10. அந்த மனுஷனோ, இராத்திரிக்கு இருக்க மனதில்லாமல், இரண்டு கழுதைகள்மேலும் சேணம்வைத்து, தன் மறுமனையாட்டியைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, எழுந்து புறப்பட்டு, எருசலேமாகிய எபூசுக்கு நேராக வந்தான்.

10. But the man would not be kept there that night, and he got up and went away and came opposite to Jebus (which is Jerusalem); and he had with him the two asses, ready for travelling, and his woman.

11. அவர்கள் எபூசுக்குச் சமீபமாய் வருகையில், பொழுதுபோகிறதாயிருந்தது; அப்பொழுது வேலைக்காரன் தன் எஜமானை நோக்கி: எபூசியர் இருக்கிற இந்தப் பட்டணத்திற்குப் போய், அங்கே இராத்தங்கலாம் என்றான்.

11. When they got near Jebus the day was far gone; and the servant said to his master, Now let us go from our road into this town of the Jebusites and take our night's rest there.

12. அதற்கு அவன் எஜமான் நாம் வழியைவிட்டு, இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரில்லாத மறுஜாதியார் இருக்கிற பட்டணத்துக்குப் போகப்படாது; அப்பாலே கிபியா மட்டும் போவோம் என்று சொல்லி,

12. But his master said to him, We will not go out of our way into a strange town, whose people are not of the children of Israel; but we will go on to Gibeah.

13. தன் வேலைக்காரனைப் பார்த்து: நாம் கிபியாவிலாகிலும் ராமாவிலாகிலும் இராத்தங்கும்படிக்கு, அவைகளில் ஒரு இடத்திற்குப் போய்ச் சேரும்படி நடந்து போவோம் வா என்றான்.

13. And he said to his servant, Come, let us go on to one of these places, stopping for the night in Gibeah or Ramah.

14. அப்படியே அப்பாலே நடந்துபோனார்கள்; பென்யமீன் நாட்டைச் சேர்ந்த கிபியாவின் கிட்ட வருகையில், சூரியன் அஸ்தமனமாயிற்று.

14. So they went on their way; and the sun went down when they were near Gibeah in the land of Benjamin.

15. ஆகையால் கிபியாவிலே வந்து இராத்தங்கும்படிக்கு, வழியைவிட்டு அவ்விடத்திற்குப் போனார்கள்; அவன் பட்டணத்துக்குள் போனபோது, இராத்தங்குகிறதற்கு அவர்களை வீட்டிலே சேர்த்துக்கொள்வார் இல்லாததினால், வீதியில் உட்கார்ந்தான்.

15. And they went off the road there with the purpose of stopping for the night in Gibeah: and he went in, seating himself in the street of the town, for no one took them into his house for the night.

16. வயலிலே வேலைசெய்து, மாலையிலே திரும்புகிற ஒரு கிழவன் வந்தான்; அந்த மனுஷனும் எப்பிராயீம் மலைதேசத்தான், அவன் கிபியாவிலே சஞ்சரிக்க வந்தான்; அவ்விடத்து மனுஷரோ பென்யமீனர்.

16. Now when it was evening they saw an old man coming back from his work in the fields; he was from the hill-country of Ephraim and was living in Gibeah: but the men of the place were Benjamites.

17. அந்தக் கிழவன் தன் கண்களை ஏறெடுத்துப் பட்டணத்து வீதியில் அந்தப் பிரயாணக்காரன் இருக்கக் கண்டு: எங்கே போகிறாய், எங்கேயிருந்து வந்தாய் என்று கேட்டான்.

17. And when he saw the traveller in the street of the town, the old man said, Where are you going? and where do you come from?

18. அதற்கு அவன்: நாங்கள் யூதாவிலுள்ள ஊராகிய பெத்லெகேமிலிருந்து வந்து, எப்பிராயீம் மலைத்தேசத்தின் புறங்கள்மட்டும் போகிறோம்; நான் அவ்விடத்தான்; யூதாவிலுள்ள பெத்லெகேம் மட்டும் போய்வந்தேன், நான் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்துக்குப் போகிறேன்; இங்கே என்னை வீட்டிலே ஏற்றுக்கொள்வார் ஒருவரும் இல்லை.

18. And he said to him, We are on our way from Beth-lehem-judah to the inmost parts of the hill-country of Ephraim: I came from there and went to Beth-lehem-judah: now I am on my way back to my house, but no man will take me into his house.

19. எங்கள் கழுதைகளுக்கு வைக்கோலும் தீவனமும் உண்டு; எனக்கும் உமது அடியாளுக்கும் உமது அடியானோடிருக்கிற வேலைக்காரனுக்கும் அப்பமும் திராட்சரசமும் உண்டு; ஒன்றிலும் குறைவில்லை என்றான்.

19. But we have dry grass and food for our asses, as well as bread and wine for me, and for the woman, and for the young man with us: we have no need of anything.

20. அப்பொழுது அந்தக் கிழவன்: உனக்குச் சமாதானம்; உன் குறைவுகளெல்லாம் என்மேல் இருக்கட்டும்; வீதியிலே மாத்திரம் இராத்தங்க வேண்டாம் என்று சொல்லி,

20. And the old man said, Peace be with you; let all your needs be my care; only do not take your rest in the street.

21. அவனைத் தன் வீட்டுக்குள் அழைத்துக்கொண்டுபோய், கழுதைகளுக்குத் தீவனம் போட்டான்; அவர்கள் தங்கள் கால்களைக் கழுவிக்கொண்டு, புசித்துக் குடித்தார்கள்.

21. So he took them into his house and gave the asses food; and after washing their feet they took food and drink.

22. அவர்கள் மனமகிழ்ச்சியாயிருக்கிறபோது, இதோ, பேலியாளின் மக்களாகிய அந்த ஊர் மனுஷரில் சிலர் அந்த வீட்டைச் சூழ்ந்துகொண்டு, கதவைத் தட்டி: உன் வீட்டிலே வந்த அந்த மனுஷனை நாங்கள் அறியும்படிக்கு, வெளியே கொண்டுவா என்று வீட்டுக்காரனாகிய அந்தக் கிழவனோடே சொன்னார்கள்.

22. While they were taking their pleasure at the meal, the good-for-nothing men of the town came round the house, giving blows on the door; and they said to the old man, the master of the house, Send out that man who came to your house, so that we may take our pleasure with him.

23. அப்பொழுது வீட்டுக்காரனாகிய அந்த மனுஷன் வெளியே அவர்களிடத்தில் போய்: இப்படிச் செய்யவேண்டாம்; என் சகோதரரே, இப்படிப்பட்ட பொல்லாப்பைச் செய்யவேண்டாம்; அந்த மனுஷன் என் வீட்டிற்குள் வந்திருக்கையில், இப்படிக்கொத்த மதிகேட்டைச் செய்யீர்களாக.

23. So the man, the master of the house, went out to them, and said, No, my brothers, do not this evil thing; this man has come into my house, and you are not to do him this wrong.

24. இதோ, கன்னியாஸ்திரீயாகிய என் மகளும், அந்த மனிதனுடைய மறுமனையாட்டியும் இருக்கிறார்கள்; அவர்களை உங்களிடத்தில் வெளியே கொண்டுவருகிறேன்; அவர்களை அவமானப்படுத்தி, உங்கள் பார்வைக்குச் சரிபோனபிரகாரம் அவர்களுக்குச் செய்யுங்கள்; ஆனாலும் இந்த மனுஷனுக்கு அப்படிப்பட்ட மதிகேடான காரியத்தைச் செய்யவேண்டாம் என்றான்.

24. See, here is my daughter, a virgin, and his servant-wife: I will send them out for you to take them and do with them whatever you will. But do no such thing of shame to this man.

25. அந்த மனுஷர் அவன் சொல்லைக்கேட்கவில்லை; அப்பொழுது அந்த மனுஷன் தன் மறுமனையாட்டியைப் பிடித்து, அவர்களிடத்தில் வெளியே கொண்டுவந்து விட்டான்; அவர்கள் அவளை அறிந்துகொண்டு, இராமுழுவதும் விடியுங்காலமட்டும் அவளை இலச்சையாய் நடத்தி, கிழக்கு வெளுக்கும்போது அவளைப்போகவிட்டார்கள்.

25. But the men would not give ear to him: so the man took his woman and sent her out to them; and they took her by force, using her for their pleasure all night till the morning; and when dawn came they let her go.

26. விடியுங்காலத்திற்கு முன்னே அந்த ஸ்திரீ வந்து, வெளிச்சமாகுமட்டும் அங்கே தன் எஜமான் இருந்த வீட்டுவாசற்படியிலே விழுந்துகிடந்தாள்.

26. Then at the dawn of day the woman came, and, falling down at the door of the man's house where her master was, was stretched there till it was light.

27. அவள் எஜமான் காலமே எழுந்திருந்து வீட்டின் கதவைத் திறந்து, தன் வழியே போகப் புறப்படுகிறபோது, இதோ, அவன் மறுமனையாட்டியாகிய ஸ்திரீ வீட்டுவாசலுக்கு முன்பாகத் தன் கைகளை வாசற்படியின்மேல் வைத்தவளாய்க் கிடந்தாள்.

27. In the morning her master got up, and opening the door of the house went out to go on his way; and he saw his servant-wife stretched on the earth at the door of the house with her hands on the step.

28. எழுந்திரு போவோம் என்று அவன் அவளோடே சொன்னதற்குப் பிரதியுத்தரம் பிறக்கவில்லை. அப்பொழுது அந்த மனுஷன் அவளைக் கழுதையின்மேல் போட்டுக்கொண்டு, பிரயாணப்பட்டு, தன் இடத்திற்குப் போனான்.

28. And he said to her, Get up and let us be going; but there was no answer; so he took her up and put her on the ass, and went on his way and came to his house.

29. அவன் தன் வீட்டுக்கு வந்தபோது, ஒரு கத்தியை எடுத்து, தன் மறுமனையாட்டியைப் பிடித்து, அவளை அவளுடைய எலும்புகளோடுங்கூடப் பன்னிரண்டு துண்டமாக்கி, இஸ்ரவேலின் எல்லைகளுக்கெல்லாம் அனுப்பினான்.

29. And when he had come to his house, he got his knife, and took the woman, cutting her up bone by bone into twelve parts, which he sent through all Israel.

30. அப்பொழுது அதைக் கண்டவர்களெல்லாரும், இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் எகிப்திலிருந்து புறப்பட்ட நாள் முதற்கொண்டு இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் இதைப்போலொத்த காரியம் செய்யப்படவும் இல்லை, காணப்படவும் இல்லை; இந்தக் காரியத்தை யோசித்து ஆலோசனைபண்ணி செய்யவேண்டியது இன்னதென்று சொல்லுங்கள் என்றார்கள்.

30. And he gave orders to the men whom he sent, saying, This is what you are to say to all the men of Israel, Has ever an act like this been done from the day when the children of Israel came out of Egypt to this day? Give thought to it, turning it over in your minds, and give your opinion of it.
