1. புத்திமதிகளை விரும்புகிறவன் அறிவை விரும்புகிறான்; கடிந்து கொள்ளுதலை வெறுக்கிறவனோ மிருககுணமுள்ளவன்.

1. Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is like a brute animal.

2. நல்லவன் கர்த்தரிடத்தில் தயை பெறுவான்; துர்ச்சிந்தனைகளுள்ள மனுஷனை அவர் ஆக்கினைக்குட்படுத்துவார்.

2. The good obtain grace from Jehovah, but He will condemn a man of wicked devices.

3. துன்மார்க்கத்தினால் மனுஷன் நிலைவரப்படான்; நீதிமான்களுடைய வேரோ அசையாது.

3. A man shall not be established by wickedness, but the root of the righteous shall not be dislodged.

4. குணசாலியான ஸ்திரீ தன் புருஷனுக்குக் கிரீடமாயிருக்கிறாள்; இலச்சை உண்டுபண்ணுகிறவளோ அவனுக்கு எலும்புருக்கியாயிருக்கிறாள்.

4. A woman of virtue is a crown to her lord, but one causing shame is like rottenness in his bones.

5. நீதிமான்களுடைய நினைவுகள் நியாயமானவைகள்; துன்மார்க்கருடைய ஆலோசனைகளோ சூதானவைகள்.

5. The thoughts of the righteous are right; the counsels of the wicked are deceit.

6. துன்மார்க்கரின் வார்த்தைகள் இரத்தஞ்சிந்தப் பதிவிருப்பதைப்பற்றியது; உத்தமர்களுடைய வாயோ அவர்களைத் தப்புவிக்கும்.

6. The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

7. துன்மார்க்கர் கவிழ்க்கப்பட்டு ஒழிந்துபோவார்கள்; நீதிமான்களுடைய வீடோ நிலைநிற்கும்.

7. Overthrow the wicked, and they are not; but the house of the righteous stands.

8. தன் புத்திக்குத்தக்கதாக மனுஷன் புகழப்படுவான்; மாறுபாடான இருதயமுள்ளவனோ இகழப்படுவான்.

8. A man shall be praised according to his wisdom, but he who is of a crooked heart shall be despised.

9. ஆகாரமில்லாதவனாயிருந்தும், தன்னைத்தான் கனம்பண்ணிக்கொள்ளுகிறவனைப்பார்க்கிலும், கனமற்றவனாயிருந்தும் பணிவிடைக்காரனுள்ளவன் உத்தமன்.

9. He who is despised, and has a servant, is better than one honoring himself and lacking bread.

10. நீதிமான் தன் மிருகஜீவனைக் காப்பாற்றுகிறான்; துன்மார்க்கருடைய இரக்கமும் கொடுமையே.

10. The righteous knows the life of his animal, but the mercies of the wicked are cruel.

11. தன் நிலத்தைப் பயிரிடுகிறவன் ஆகாரத்தினால் திருப்தியடைவான்; வீணரைப் பின்பற்றுகிறவனோ மதியற்றவன்.

11. He who tills his land shall be satisfied with bread, but he chasing vanities lacks heart.

12. துன்மார்க்கன் துஷ்டருடைய வலையை விரும்புகிறான்; நீதிமானுடைய வேர் கனி கொடுக்கும்.

12. The wicked desires the net of evils, but the root of the righteous gives fruit.

13. துன்மார்க்கனுக்கு அவன் உதடுகளின் துரோகமே கண்ணி; நீதிமானோ நெருக்கத்தினின்று நீங்குவான்.

13. In the transgression of the lips is the snare of evil, but the righteous will come out from distress.

14. அவனவன் தன் தன் வாயின் பலனால் திருப்தியடைவான்; அவனவன் கைக்கிரியையின் பலனுக்குத்தக்கதாக அவனவனுக்குக் கிடைக்கும்.

14. A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of the mouth, and the dealing of a man's hand shall be given back to him.

15. மதியீனனுடைய வழி அவன் பார்வைக்குச் செம்மையாயிருக்கும்; ஆலோசனைக்குச் செவிகொடுக்கிறவனோ ஞானமுள்ளவன்.

15. The way of a fool is upright in his own eyes, but he who listens to advice is wise.

16. மூடனுடைய கோபம் சீக்கிரத்தில் வெளிப்படும்; இலச்சையை மூடுகிறவனோ விவேகி.

16. A fool's vexation is known in a day, but the astute one covers shame.

17. சத்தியவாசகன் நீதியை வெளிப்படுத்துவான்; பொய்ச்சாட்சிக்காரனோ வஞ்சகத்தை வெளிப்படுத்துவான்.

17. He who breathes faithfulness reveals righteousness, but a false witness deceit.

18. பட்டயக்குத்துகள்போல் பேசுகிறவர்களும் உண்டு; ஞானமுள்ளவர்களுடைய நாவோ ஒளஷதம்.

18. There is a rash speaking like thrusts of a sword, but the tongue of the wise is healing.

19. சத்திய உதடு என்றும் நிலைத்திருக்கும்; பொய்நாவோ ஒரு நிமிஷமாத்திரம் இருக்கும்;

19. The lips of truth are established forever, but a lying tongue lasts only while I wink.

20. தீங்கைப் பிணைக்கிறவர்களின் இருதயத்தில் இருக்கிறது கபடம்; சமாதானம்பண்ணுகிற ஆலோசனைக்காரருக்கு உள்ளது சந்தோஷம்.

20. Deceit is in the heart of those who plot evil, but to counselors of peace is joy.

21. நீதிமானுக்கு ஒரு கேடும் வராது; துன்மார்க்கரோ தீமையினால் நிறையப்படுவார்கள்.

21. No trouble shall be sent to the just, but the wicked shall be filled with evil.

22. பொய் உதடுகள் கர்த்தருக்கு அருவருப்பானவைகள்; உண்மையாய் நடக்கிறவர்களோ அவருக்குப் பிரியம்.

22. Lying lips are hateful to Jehovah, but those who deal faithfulness are His delight.

23. விவேகமுள்ள மனுஷன் அறிவை அடக்கிவைக்கிறான்; மூடருடைய இருதயமோ மதியீனத்தைப் பிரசித்தப்படுத்தும்.

23. A wise man conceals knowledge, but the heart of fools calls out their folly.

24. ஜாக்கிரதையுள்ளவர்களுடைய கை ஆளுகை செய்யும்; சோம்பேறியோ பகுதிகட்டுவான்.

24. The hand of the hard worker shall rule, but the lazy ones will become forced labor.

25. மனுஷனுடைய இருதயத்திலுள்ள கவலை அதை ஒடுக்கும்; நல்வார்த்தையோ அதை மகிழ்ச்சியாக்கும்.

25. Heaviness in a man's heart makes it droop, but a good word makes it glad.

26. நீதிமான் தன் அயலானைப்பார்க்கிலும் மேன்மையுள்ளவன்; துன்மார்க்கருடைய வழியோ அவர்களை மோசப்படுத்தும்.

26. The righteous searches out with his friend, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.

27. சோம்பேறி தான் வேட்டையாடிப் பிடித்ததைச் சமைப்பதில்லை; ஜாக்கிரதையுள்ளவனுடைய பொருளோ அருமையானது.

27. A person of laziness does not start after his prey, but the wealth of a working man is precious.

28. நீதியின் பாதையில் ஜீவன் உண்டு; அந்தப் பாதையில் மரணம் இல்லை.

28. In the way of righteousness is life, and in that pathway is no death.
