1. அப்பொழுது எலிசா: கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தையைக் கேளுங்கள்: நாளை இந்நேரத்தில் சமாரியாவின் வாசலிலே ஒருமரக்கால் கோதுமைமா ஒருசேக்கலுக்கும், இரண்டுமரக்கால் வாற்கோதுமை ஒருசேக்கலுக்கும் விற்கப்படும் என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார் என்றான்.

1. Then Eliseus said: hear the word of the LORD: for thus sayeth the LORD: tomorrow this time a bushel of fine flour shall be sold for a sicle and two bushels of Barley for another in the gates of Samaria.

2. அப்பொழுது ராஜாவுக்குக் கைலாகு கொடுக்கிற பிரதானி ஒருவன் தேவனுடைய மனுஷனுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: இதோ, கர்த்தர் வானத்திலே மதகுகளை உண்டாக்கினாலும் இப்படி நடக்குமா என்றான். அதற்கு அவன்: உன்னுடைய கண்களினாலே அதைக் காண்பாய்; ஆனாலும் அதிலே சாப்பிடமாட்டாய் என்றான்.

2. Then a great lord on whose hand the king leaned, answered the man of God and said, though the LORD would make windows in heaven, yet would not this be. And he said again: Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes and shalt not eat thereof.

3. குஷ்டரோகிகளான நாலுபேர் ஒலிமுகவாசலில் இருந்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் ஒருவரை ஒருவர் நோக்கி: நாம் இங்கே இருந்து சாகவேண்டியது என்ன?

3. And there were four lepers set without the gate of Samaria. And they said each to his companion, what sit we here until we die?

4. பட்டணத்திற்குள் போவோமென்றாலும் பட்டணத்தில் பஞ்சம் உண்டாயிருக்கிறதினால் அங்கே சாவோம்; நாம் இங்கே இருந்தாலும் சாவோம்; ஆகையால் இப்பொழுது சீரியருடைய இராணுவத்திற்குப் போவோம் வாருங்கள்; அவர்கள் நம்மை உயிரோடே வைத்தால் பிழைக்கிறோம்; நம்மைக் கொன்றால் சாகிறோம் என்று சொல்லி,

4. though we thought that we might come into the city, yet is the dearth so great in the city, that we shall there die. And if we tarry here, we are but dead also. Now therefore come and let us flee to the Host of the Sirians: if they save our lives, we shall live: And if they kill us, then are we dead.

5. சீரியருடைய இராணுவத்திற்குப் போக இருட்டோடே எழுந்திருந்து, சீரியருடைய பாளயத்தின் முன்னணியில் வந்தார்கள்; அங்கே ஒருவருமில்லை.

5. And so they arose in the dark to go to the Host of the Sirians. And when they were come to the side of the Host of Siria: see, there was no man there.

6. ஆண்டவர் சீரியரின் இராணுவத்திற்கு இரதங்களின் இரைச்சலையும், குதிரைகளின் இரைச்சலையும், மகா இராணுவத்தின் இரைச்சலையும் கேட்கப்பண்ணினதினால், அவர்கள் ஒருவரை ஒருவர் நோக்கி: இதோ, நம்மிடத்தில் போருக்குவர, இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா ஏத்தியரின் ராஜாக்களையும் எகிப்தியரின் ராஜாக்களையும் நமக்கு விரோதமாகக் கூலி பொருத்தினான் என்று சொல்லி,

6. For the Lord(Lorde) had made the host of the Sirians hear a noise of chariots and a noise of horses, and the noise of a great Host. In so much that they said one to another: see, the king of Israel hath hired against us, the kings of the Hethites and the kings of Egypt, to come upon us.

7. இருட்டோடே எழுந்திருந்து ஓடிப்போய், தங்கள் கூடாரங்களையும் தங்கள் குதிரைகளையும் தங்கள் கழுதைகளையும் தங்கள் பாளயத்தையும் அவைகள் இருந்த பிரகாரமாக விட்டு, தங்கள் பிராணன் மாத்திரம் தப்பும்படி ஓடிப்போனார்கள்.

7. And upon that they arose and fled in the dark, and left their tents, their horses, their Asses and the field they had pitched even as it was, and fled for their lives.

8. அந்தக் குஷ்டரோகிகள் பாளயத்தின் முன்னணிமட்டும் வந்தபோது, ஒரு கூடாரத்திற்குள் பிரவேசித்து புசித்துக் குடித்து, அதிலிருந்த வெள்ளியையும், பொன்னையும், வஸ்திரங்களையும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு போய் ஒளித்துவைத்து, திரும்பிவந்து, வேறொரு கூடாரத்திற்குள் பிரவேசித்து, அதிலிருந்தும் அப்படியே எடுத்துக்கொண்டுபோய் ஒளித்துவைத்து,

8. And when these lepers came to the edge of the Host, they went into a tent and did eat and drink and carried thence silver, gold and raiment, and went and hid it: and came again and entered into another, and carried thence also, and went and hid it.

9. பின்பு அவர்கள் ஒருவரை ஒருவர் நோக்கி: நாம் செய்கிறது நியாயமல்ல, இந்நாள் நற்செய்தி அறிவிக்கும் நாள்; நாம் மவுனமாயிருந்து, பொழுது விடியுமட்டும் காத்திருந்தால் குற்றம் நம்மேல் சுமரும்; இப்போதும் நாம் போய் ராஜாவின் அரமனையாருக்கு இதை அறிவிப்போம் வாருங்கள் என்றார்கள்.

9. Then they said one to another: it is not well that we do, for this day is a day to bring tidings. And if we hold our peace, and tarry till it be daylight, we shall find a mischief. Now therefore come, let us go and tell the king's household.

10. அப்படியே அவர்கள் வந்து, பட்டணத்து வாசல் காவலாளனை நோக்கிக் கூப்பிட்டு: நாங்கள் சீரியரின் பாளயத்திற்குப் போய்வந்தோம்; அங்கே ஒருவரும் இல்லை, ஒரு மனுஷனுடைய சத்தமும் இல்லை, கட்டியிருக்கிற குதிரைகளும் கட்டியிருக்கிற கழுதைகளும், கூடாரங்களும் இருந்த பிரகாரம் இருக்கிறது என்று அவர்களுக்குச் சொன்னார்கள்.

10. And so they went and called to the porter of the city and told them saying: we came to the pavilions of the Sirians: and see, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses and Asses tied, and the tents even as they were.

11. அப்பொழுது அவன் வாசல்காக்கிற மற்றவர்களைக் கூப்பிட்டான்; அவர்கள் உள்ளே போய் ராஜாவின் அரமனையாருக்கு அதை அறிவித்தார்கள்.

11. Then the porters called and told the kings house within.

12. அப்பொழுது இராஜா இராத்திரியில் எழுந்து, தன் ஊழியக்காரரை நோக்கி: சீரியர் நமக்குச் செய்கிற காரியத்தை உங்களுக்குத் தெரியப்படுத்துகிறேன்; நாம் பட்டினியாயிருக்கிறோம் என்று அவர்கள் அறிவார்கள்; ஆகையால் நாம் பட்டணத்திலிருந்து புறப்பட்டுப்போனால் நம்மை உயிரோடே பிடித்துக்கொண்டு பட்டணத்திற்குள் பிரவேசிக்கலாம் என்று எண்ணி, அவர்கள் பாளயத்தை விட்டுப் புறப்பட்டு வெளியில் ஒளித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள் என்றான்.

12. And the king arose in the night and said to his servants: I will shew you, how the Sirians have served us. They know that we are oppressed with hunger, and therefore are gone out of their pavilions to hide themselves in the field saying: They will come out of the city, and then we shall catch them alive and get into the city.

13. அவன் ஊழியக்காரரில் ஒருவன் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: இங்கே மீதியான குதிரைகளில் ஐந்து குதிரைகளைக் கொண்டுபோக உத்தரவு கொடும்; இதோ, இங்கே மீதியான இஸ்ரவேலின் சகல ஏராளத்திலும், மாண்டுபோன இஸ்ரவேலின் சகல கூட்டத்திலும், அவைகள் மாத்திரம் மீந்திருக்கிறது; அவைகளை நாம் அனுப்பிப்பார்ப்போம் என்றான்.

13. And one of his servants answered and said: Let men take five of the horses that remain and are left in the city. Behold they are as good as all the multitude that are left in the city: and as good as all the multitude of the city that are consumed, and let us send and see.

14. அப்படியே இரண்டு இரதக்குதிரைகளைக் கொண்டுவந்தார்கள்; ராஜா போய் வாருங்கள் என்று சொல்லி, சீரியரின் இராணுவத்தைத் தொடர்ந்து போகும்படி அனுப்பினான்.

14. And they took two chariots of horses, and the king sent after the Host of the Sirians saying: go and see.

15. அவர்கள் யோர்தான்மட்டும் அவர்களைப் பின்தொடர்ந்துபோனார்கள்; சீரியர் தீவிரித்து ஓடுகையில், அவர்கள் எறிந்துபோட்ட வஸ்திரங்களாலும் தட்டுமுட்டுகளாலும் வழியெல்லம் நிறைந்திருந்தது; அனுப்பப்பட்டவர்கள் திரும்பிவந்து ராஜாவுக்கு அதை அறிவித்தார்கள்.

15. And they followed after them even unto Jordan: and see, all the way was full of clothes and vessels which the Sirians had cast from them for haste. And the messengers returned and told the king.

16. அப்பொழுது ஜனங்கள் புறப்பட்டு, சீரியரின் பாளயத்தைக் கொள்ளையிட்டார்கள்; கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தையின்படியே, ஒருமரக்கால் கோதுமைமா ஒருசேக்கலுக்கும், இரண்டு மரக்கால் வாற்கோதுமை ஒரு சேக்கலுக்கும் விற்கப்பட்டது.

16. And then the people went out and robbed the tents of the Sirians. And so a bushel of flour was sold for a sicle, and two bushels of barley for a sicle, according to the word of the LORD.

17. ராஜா தனக்குக் கைலாகுகொடுக்கிற அந்தப் பிரதானியை ஒலிமுகவாசலில் விசாரிப்பாயிருக்கக் கட்டளையிட்டிருந்தான்; ஒலிமுகவாசலிலே ஜனங்கள் அவனை நெருங்கி மிதித்ததினாலே, ராஜா தேவனுடைய மனுஷனிடத்தில் வந்தபோது சொல்லியிருந்தபடியே. அவன் செத்துப்போனான்.

17. And the king set the lord on whose hand he leaned, to keep the gate. And the people trod him in the gate, that he died, according to the saying of the man of God which he said, when the king came down to him.

18. இரண்டு மரக்கால் வாற்கோதுமை ஒருசேக்கலுக்கும், ஒருமரக்கால் கோதுமைமா ஒருசேக்கலுக்கும், நாளை இந்நேரத்திலே சமாரியாவின் ஒலிமுகவாசலில் விற்கும் என்று தேவனுடைய மனுஷன் ராஜாவோடே சொன்னதின்படியே நடந்தது.

18. And it came to pass according to the word of the man of God to the king saying: two bushels of barley for a sicle and a bushel of flour for another shall be tomorrow this time in the gates of Samaria.

19. அதற்கு அந்தப் பிரதானி தேவனுடைய மனுஷனுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: இதோ, கர்த்தர் வானத்திலே மதகுகளை உண்டாக்கினாலும், இந்த வார்த்தையின்படி நடக்குமா என்று சொல்ல; இவன், இதோ, உன்னுடைய கண்களினாலே அதைக் காண்பாய், ஆனாலும் அதிலே சாப்பிடமாட்டாய் என்றானே.

19. And the lord answered the man of God and said: though the LORD made windows in heaven, yet would not this be. And the other said: Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, and shalt not eat thereof.

20. அந்தப் பிரகாரமாகத்தானே அவனுக்கு நடந்தது; ஒலிமுகவாசலிலே ஜனங்கள் அவனை நெருங்கி மிதித்ததினாலே அவன் செத்துப்போனான்.

20. And so it chanced: for the people trod him under feet in the gate, that he died.
