1. அகசியா என்னும் யூதாவுடைய ராஜாவின் குமாரனாகிய யோவாசுடைய இருபத்துமூன்றாம் வருஷத்தில் யெகூவின் குமாரனாகிய யோவாகாஸ் இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் சமாரியாவிலே பதினேழுவருஷம் ராஜ்யபாரம்பண்ணி,

1. In the twenty third year of Jehoas son of Ohoziah king of Juda, Jehoahaz the son of Jehu was made king over Israel in Samaria, and continued seventeen year.

2. கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குப் பொல்லாப்பானதைச் செய்து, இஸ்ரவேலைப் பாவஞ்செய்யப்பண்ணின நேபாத்தின் குமாரனாகிய யெரொபெயாமின் பாவங்களைப் பின்பற்றி நடந்தான்; அவைகளை விட்டு அவன் விலகவில்லை.

2. And he wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD: for he followed the sin of Jeroboam the son of Nabat which made Israel sin, and departed not there from.

3. ஆகையால் கர்த்தருக்கு இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் கோபமூண்டு, அவர்களைச் சீரியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய ஆசகேலின் கையிலும் ஆசகேலின் குமாரனாகிய பெனாதாத்தின் கையிலும் அந்நாட்களிலெல்லாம் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்.

3. Wherefore the LORD was angry with Israel, and delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Siria, and into the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael all their days.

4. யோவாகாஸ் கர்த்தருடைய சமுகத்தை நோக்கிப் பிரார்த்தித்தான்; சீரியாவின் ராஜா இஸ்ரவேலை ஒடுக்குகிறதினால் அவர்கள் ஒடுங்கிப்போகிறதைப் பார்த்து: கர்த்தர் அவனுக்குச் செவிகொடுத்தார்.

4. But Jehoahaz besought the LORD, and the LORD heard him. For he had seen the oppression of Israel, how the king of Siria oppressed them.

5. கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு ஒரு ரட்சகனைக் கொடுத்ததினால், அவர்கள் சீரியருடைய கையின்கீழிருந்து நீங்கலானார்கள்; ஆதலால் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் முன்போல் தங்கள் கூடாரங்களிலே குடியிருந்தார்கள்.

5. And therefore the LORD gave Israel a deliverer and they went out from under the hands of the Sirians. And the children of Israel dwelt in their tents as before time.

6. ஆகிலும் இஸ்ரவேலைப் பாவஞ்செய்யப்பண்ணின யெரொபெயாம் வீட்டாரின் பாவங்களை அவர்கள் விட்டு விலகாமல் அதிலே நடந்தார்கள்; சமாரியாவிலிருந்த விக்கிரகத்தோப்பும் நிலையாயிருந்தது.

6. Nevertheless they departed not from the sin of the house of Jeroboam which made Israel sin, but walked therein. And there remained a grove also in Samaria still:

7. யோவாகாசுக்குச் சீரியாவின் ராஜா, ஐம்பது குதிரைவீரரையும், பத்து இரதங்களையும், பதினாயிரம் காலாட்களையுமே அல்லாமல், ஜனங்களில் வேறொன்றும் மீதியாக வைக்கவில்லை; அவன் அவர்களை அழித்துப் போரடிக்கும் இடத்துத் தூளைப்போல ஆக்கிப்போட்டான்.

7. But there were left of the people to Jehoahaz, but fifty horsemen and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen for the king of Siria had destroyed them and made them like threshed chaff.

8. யோவாகாசின் மற்ற வர்த்தமானங்களும், அவன் செய்தவை யாவும், அவனுடைய வல்லமையும் இஸ்ரவேல் ராஜாக்களின் நாளாகமப் புஸ்தகத்தில் அல்லவோ எழுதியிருக்கிறது.

8. The rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all he did and his power are written in the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

9. யோவாகாஸ் தன் பிதாக்களோடே நித்திரையடைந்தபின், அவனைச் சமாரியாவிலே அடக்கம் பண்ணினார்கள்; அவன் குமாரனாகிய யோவாஸ் அவன் ஸ்தானத்தில் ராஜாவானான்.

9. And Jehoahaz rested with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria, and Joas his son reigned in his stead.

10. யூதாவின் ராஜாவாகிய யோவாசுடைய முப்பத்தேழாம் வருஷத்தில் யோவாகாசின் குமாரனாகிய யோவாஸ், இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் ராஜாவாகி சமாரியாவிலே பதினாறுவருஷம் ராஜ்யபாரம்பண்ணி,

10. In the thirty seventh year of Jehoas king of Juda, began Joas the son of Jehoahaz to reign over Israel in Samaria, and continued sixteen year,

11. கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குப் பொல்லாப்பானதைச் செய்தான்; இஸ்ரவேலைப் பாவஞ்செய்யப்பண்ணின நேபாத்தின் குமாரனாகிய யெரொபெயாமின் பாவங்களை விட்டு விலகாமல் அவைகளிலெல்லாம் நடந்தான்.

11. and did unhappily in the sight of the LORD and departed in nothing from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nabat that made Israel sin, but walked therein.

12. யோவாசின் மற்ற வர்த்தமானங்களும், அவன் செய்தவை யாவும், அவன் யூதாவின் ராஜாவாகிய அமத்சியாவோடு அவன் யுத்தம்பண்ணின வல்லமையும், இஸ்ரவேல் ராஜாக்களின் நாளாகமப் புஸ்தகத்தில் அல்லவோ எழுதியிருக்கிறது.

12. The remnant of the acts of Joas and all he did, and his power, how he fought with Amaziah king of Juda, are written in the chronicle book of the kings of Israel.

13. யோவாஸ் தன் பிதாக்களோடே நித்திரையடைந்தபின், யெரொபெயாம் அவன் சிங்காசனத்தில் வீற்றிருந்தான்; யோவாஸ் சமாரியாவில் இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாக்களண்டையிலே அடக்கம்பண்ணப்பட்டான்.

13. And when Joas was laid to rest with his fathers, Jeroboam sat upon his seat. And Joas was buried in Samaria among the kings of Israel.

14. அவன் நாட்களில் எலிசா மரணத்துக்கு ஏதுவான வியாதியாய்க் கிடந்தான்; அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவாகிய யோவாஸ் அவனிடத்துக்குப் போய், அவன்மேல் விழுந்து, அழுது: என் தகப்பனே, என் தகப்பனே, இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு இரதமும் குதிரைவீரருமாயிருந்தவரே என்றான்.

14. When Eliseus was fallen sick of the sickness whereof he died, Joas king of Israel came to him and wept to him, and said: O father, father the chariot of Israel and the horsemen of the same.

15. எலிசா அவனைப் பார்த்து: வில்லையும் அம்புகளையும் பிடியும் என்றான்; அப்படியே வில்லையும் அம்புகளையும் பிடித்துக்கொண்டான்.

15. And Eliseus said unto him, bring bow and arrows. And he brought to him bow and arrows.

16. அப்பொழுது அவன் இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவை நோக்கி: உம்முடைய கையை வில்லின்மேல் வையும் என்றான்; அவன் தன் கையை வைத்தபோது, எலிசா தன் கைகளை ராஜாவுடைய கைகள்மேல் வைத்து:

16. And he said to the king of Israel: put thine hand upon the bow, and when he had put his hand upon the bow, Eliseus put his hands upon the king's hands.

17. கிழக்கே இருக்கிற ஜன்னலைத் திறவும் என்றான்; அவன் அதைத் திறந்தபோது, எலிசா: எய்யும் என்றான்; இவன் எய்தபோது, அவன்: அது கர்த்தருடைய ரட்சிப்பின் அம்பும், சீரியரினின்று விடுதலையாக்கும் ரட்சிப்பின் அம்புமானது; நீர் ஆப்பெக்கிலே சீரியரைத் தீர முறிய அடிப்பீர் என்றான்.

17. Then he said, open a window eastward: and he opened. And Eliseus said: shoot, and he shot. And he said: the arrow of help of the LORD, and the arrow of help against the Sirians, for thou shalt beat the Sirians in Aphek till thou have consumed them.

18. பின்பு அம்புகளைப் பிடியும் என்றான்; அவைகளைப் பிடித்தான். அப்பொழுது அவன் இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவை நோக்கி: தரையிலே அடியும் என்றான்; அவன் மூன்று தரம் அடித்து நின்றான்.

18. Then he said: take arrows: and he took. Then he said to the king of Israel, smite the ground: and he smote thrice and ceased.

19. அப்பொழுது தேவனுடைய மனுஷன் அவன்மேல் கோபமாகி: நீர் ஐந்து ஆறுவிசை அடித்தீரானால், அப்பொழுது சீரியரைத் தீர முறிய அடிப்பீர்; இப்பொழுதோ சீரியரை மூன்றுவிசை மாத்திரம் முறிய அடிப்பீர் என்றான்.

19. And the man of God was angry with him and said: thou shouldest have smitten five or six times, and then thou hadst smitten the Sirians till thou hadst consumed them: where now thou shalt beat them but thrice.

20. எலிசா மரணமடைந்தான்; அவனை அடக்கம்பண்ணினார்கள்; மறுவருஷத்திலே மோவாபியரின் தண்டுகள் தேசத்திலே வந்தது.

20. When Eliseus was dead and buried the soldiers of the Moabites came into the land, the year following.

21. அப்பொழுது அவர்கள், ஒரு மனுஷனை அடக்கம்பண்ணப்போகையில், அந்தத் தண்டைக் கண்டு, அந்த மனுஷனை எலிசாவின் கல்லறையில் போட்டார்கள்; அந்த மனுஷனின் பிரேதம் அதிலே விழுந்து எலிசாவின் எலும்புகளின்மேல் பட்டபோது, அந்த மனுஷன் உயிரடைந்து தன் கால்களை ஊன்றி எழுந்திருந்தான்.

21. And it chanced as they were burying a man, that they spied the Soldiers, and therefore cast the man into the sepulchre of Eliseus. And as soon as the man came and touched the bones of Eliseus, he revived and stood up on his feet.

22. யோவாகாசின் நாட்களிலெல்லாம் சீரியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய ஆசகேல் இஸ்ரவேலை ஒடுக்கினான்.

22. And Hazael oppressed Israel, all the days of Jehoahaz.

23. ஆனாலும் கர்த்தர் அவர்களுக்கு இரங்கி, ஆபிரகாம் ஈசாக்கு யாக்கோபு என்பவர்களோடு செய்த தமது உடன்படிக்கையினிமித்தம் அவர்களை அழிக்கச் சித்தமாயிராமலும், அவர்களை இன்னும் தம்முடைய முகத்தைவிட்டுத் தள்ளாமலும் அவர்கள்மேல் மனதுருகி, அவர்களை நினைத்தருளினார்.

23. But the LORD had mercy on them and pitied them and turned to them because of his appointment made with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and would not destroy them, either cast them from him as yet.

24. சீரியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய ஆசகேல் இறந்துபோய், அவன் குமாரனாகிய பெனாதாத் அவன் ஸ்தானத்திலே ராஜாவான பின்பு,

24. And when Hazael king of Siria was dead, Benhadad his son reigned in his stead.

25. யோவாகாசின் குமாரனாகிய யோவாஸ், ஆசகேலோடே யுத்தம்பண்ணி, தன் தகப்பனாகிய யோவாகாசின் கையிலிருந்து பிடித்துக்கொண்ட பட்டணங்களை அவன் குமாரனாகிய பெனாதாத்தின் கையிலிருந்து திரும்பப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டான்; மூன்று விசை யோவாஸ் அவனை முறிய அடித்து இஸ்ரவேலின் பட்டணங்களைத் திரும்பக் கட்டிக்கொண்டான்.

25. And when Joas the son of Jehoahaz went again and took out of the hand of Benhadad son of Hazael, the cities which he had taken away out of the hands of Jehoahaz his father, with war. And three times did Joas beat him and brought the cities of Israel again.
