1. சாலொமோன் எகிப்தின் ராஜாவாகிய பார்வோனோடே சம்பந்தங்கலந்து, பார்வோனின் குமாரத்தியை விவாகம்பண்ணி, தன்னுடைய அரமனையையும் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்தையும் எருசலேமின் சுற்றுமதிலையும் கட்டித் தீருமட்டும் அவன்அவளைத் தாவீதின் நகரத்தில் கொண்டுவந்து வைத்தான்.

1. And Solomon contracted an alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took the daughter of Pharaoh, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of Yahweh, and the wall of Jerusalem, round about.

2. அந்நாட்கள் மட்டும் கர்த்தருடைய நாமத்திற்கு ஒரு ஆலயம் கட்டப்படாதிருந்ததினால், ஜனங்கள் மேடைகளிலே பலியிட்டு வந்தார்கள்.

2. Save only, that the people were sacrificing in the high places, because there had not been built a house unto the Name of Yahweh, until those days,

3. சாலொமோன் கர்த்தரிடத்தில் அன்புகூர்ந்து, தன் தகப்பனாகிய தாவீதின் கட்டளைகளில் நடந்தான்; ஆனாலும் அவன் மேடைகளிலே பலியிட்டுத் தூபங்காட்டி வந்தான்.

3. Solomon loved Yahweh, by walking in the statutes of David his father, save only, that, in the high places, he himself, was sacrificing and offering incense.

4. அப்படியே ராஜா பலியிட கிபியோனுக்குப் போனான்; அது பெரிய மேடையாயிருந்தது; அந்தப் பலிபீடத்தின்மேல் சாலொமோன் ஆயிரம் சர்வாங்க தகனபலிகளைச் செலுத்தினான்.

4. So then the king went to Gibeon, to sacrifice there, for, that, was the great high place, a thousand ascending-sacrifices, did Solomon offer up on that altar.

5. கிபியோனிலே கர்த்தர் சாலொமோனுக்கு இராத்திரியில் சொப்பனத்திலே தரிசனமாகி: நீ விரும்புகிறதை என்னிடத்தில் கேள் என்று தேவன் சொன்னார்.

5. In Gibeon, Yahweh appeared unto Solomon, in a dream by night, and God said, Ask, what I shall give thee.

6. அதற்குச் சாலொமோன்: என் தகப்பனாகிய தாவீது என்னும் உமது அடியான் உம்மைப்பற்றி உண்மையும் நீதியும் மனநேர்மையுமாய் உமக்கு முன்பாக நடந்தபடியே தேவரீர் அவருக்குப் பெரிய கிருபைசெய்து, அந்தப் பெரிய கிருபையை அவருக்குக் காத்து, இந்நாளில் இருக்கிறபடியே அவருடைய சிங்காசனத்தில் வீற்றிருக்கிற ஒரு குமாரனை அவருக்குத் தந்தீர்.

6. Then said Solomon Thou, didst deal, with thy servant David my father, in great lovingkindness, according as he walked before thee, in truth and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart, with thee, and thou hast kept, for him, this great lovingkindness, that thou hast given unto him a son, to sit upon his throne, as it is this day.

7. இப்போதும் என் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தாவே, தேவரீர் உமது அடியேனை என் தகப்பனாகிய தாவீதின் ஸ்தானத்திலே ராஜாவாக்கினீரே, நானோவென்றால் போக்கு வரவு அறியாத சிறுபிள்ளையாயிருக்கிறேன்.

7. Now, therefore, O Yahweh my God, thou, hast made thy servant king, instead of David my father, and, I, am but a little child, I know not how to go out and come in.

8. நீர் தெரிந்துகொண்டதும் ஏராளத்தினால் எண்ணிக்கைக்கு அடங்காததும் இலக்கத்திற்கு உட்படாததுமான திரளான ஜனங்களாகிய உமது ஜனத்தின் நடுவில் அடியேன் இருக்கிறேன்.

8. And, thy servant, is in the midst of thy people, whom thou hast chosen, a numerous people, that cannot be numbered or summed up, for multitude.

9. ஆகையால் உமது ஜனங்களை நியாயம் விசாரிக்கவும், நன்மை தீமை இன்னதென்று வகையறுக்கவும், அடியேனுக்கு ஞானமுள்ள இருதயத்தைத் தந்தருளும்; ஏராளமாயிருக்கிற இந்த உமது ஜனங்களை நியாயம் விசாரிக்க யாராலே ஆகும் என்றான்.

9. Wilt thou, then, give unto thy servant, a heart that hearkeneth, to judge thy people, to discern between good and bad, for who is able to judge this thine honoured people?

10. சாலொமோன் இந்தக் காரியத்தைக் கேட்டது ஆண்டவருடைய பார்வைக்கு உகந்த விண்ணப்பமாயிருந்தது.

10. And the thing was good in the eyes of the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing;

11. ஆகையினால் தேவன் அவனை நோக்கி: நீ உனக்கு நீடித்த நாட்களைக் கேளாமலும், ஐசுவரியத்தைக் கேளாமலும், உன் சத்துருக்களின் பிராணனைக் கேளாமலும், நீ இந்தக் காரியத்தையே கேட்டு, நியாயம் விசாரிக்கிறதற்கு ஏற்ற ஞானத்தை உனக்கு வேண்டிக்கொண்டபடியினால்,

11. And God said unto him Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself many days, nor asked for thyself riches, nor asked the lives of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself discernment, in hearing a cause,

12. உன் வார்த்தைகளின்படி செய்தேன்; ஞானமும் உணர்வுமுள்ள இருதயத்தை உனக்குத் தந்தேன்; இதிலே உனக்குச் சரியானவன் உனக்குமுன் இருந்ததுமில்லை, உனக்குச் சரியானவன் உனக்குப்பின் எழும்புவதுமில்லை.

12. lo! I have done according to thy word, lo! I have given unto thee a wise and discerning heart, so that, like thee, hath been none, before thee, and, after thee, shall rise up none, like thee.

13. இதுவுமன்றி, நீ கேளாத ஐசுவரியத்தையும் மகிமையையும் உனக்குத் தந்தேன்; உன் நாட்களில் இருக்கிற ராஜாக்களில் ஒருவனும் உனக்குச் சரியானவன் இருப்பதில்லை.

13. Moreover also, what thou hast not asked, have I given unto thee, both riches and honour, so that there hath been none, like thee, among the kings, all thy days.

14. உன் தகப்பனாகிய தாவீது நடந்தது போல, நீயும் என் கட்டளைகளையும் என் நியமங்களையும் கைக்கொண்டு, என் வழிகளில் நடப்பாயாகில், உன் நாட்களையும் நீடித்திருக்கப்பண்ணுவேன் என்றார்.

14. And, if thou wilt walk in my ways, by keeping my statutes, and my commandments, as, David thy father, walked, then will I lengthen out thy days.

15. சாலொமோனுக்கு நித்திரை தெளிந்தபோது, அது சொப்பனம் என்று அறிந்தான்; அவன் எருசலேமுக்கு வந்து, கர்த்தருடைய உடன்படிக்கைப் பெட்டிக்கு முன்பாக நின்று, சர்வாங்க தகனபலிகளையிட்டு, சமாதானபலிகளைச் செலுத்தி, தன் ஊழியக்காரர் எல்லாருக்கும் விருந்துசெய்தான்.

15. And Solomon awoke, and lo! it was a dream. So he entered into Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and caused to go up ascending-sacrifices and offered peace-offerings, and made a banquet for all his servants.

16. அப்பொழுது வேசிகளான இரண்டு ஸ்திரீகள் ராஜாவினிடத்தில் வந்து, அவனுக்கு முன்பாக நின்றார்கள்.

16. Then, came there in two unchaste women, unto the king, and stood before him.

17. அவர்களில் ஒருத்தி: என் ஆண்டவனே, நானும் இந்த ஸ்திரீயும் ஒரே வீட்டிலே குடியிருக்கிறோம்; நான் இவளோடே வீட்டிலிருக்கையில் ஆண்பிள்ளை பெற்றேன்.

17. And the one woman said Pardon, my lord! I and this woman, dwell in one house, and I gave birth to a child near her, in the house.

18. நான் பிள்ளைபெற்ற மூன்றாம் நாளிலே, இந்த ஸ்திரீயும் ஆண்பிள்ளை பெற்றாள்; நாங்கள் ஒருமித்திருந்தோம், எங்கள் இருவரையும் தவிர, வீட்டுக்குள்ளே வேறொருவரும் இல்லை.

18. And it came to pass, the third day after I bare, that, this woman also, gave birth to a child, we two, being together, there was no stranger with us in the house, none but we two in the house.

19. இராத்திரி தூக்கத்திலே இந்த ஸ்திரீ தன் பிள்ளையின்மேல் புரண்டுபடுத்ததினால் அது செத்துப்போயிற்று.

19. And this woman's son died in the night, because she overlaid it.

20. அப்பொழுது, உமது அடியாள் நித்திரைபண்ணுகையில், இவள் நடுஜாமத்தில் எழுந்து, என் பக்கத்திலே கிடக்கிற என் பிள்ளையை எடுத்து, தன் மார்பிலே கிடத்திக்கொண்டு, செத்த தன் பிள்ளையை எடுத்து, என் மார்பிலே கிடத்திவிட்டாள்.

20. Then arose she, in the middle of the night, and took my son from beside me, while thy handmaid was sleeping, and laid it in her own besom, but, her dead son, laid she in, my, bosom.

21. என் பிள்ளைக்குப் பால்கொடுக்கக் காலமே நான் எழுந்திருந்தபோது, அது செத்துக் கிடந்தது; பொழுது விடிந்தபின் நான் அதை உற்றுப்பார்க்கும்போது, அது நான் பெற்ற பிள்ளை அல்லவென்று கண்டேன் என்றாள்.

21. And, when I arose in the morning, to give suck unto my child, lo! it was dead! but, when I looked at it narrowly in the morning, lo! it was not, my son that I had borne.

22. அதற்கு மற்ற ஸ்திரீ: அப்படியல்ல, உயிரோடிருக்கிறது என் பிள்ளை, செத்தது உன் பிள்ளை என்றாள். இவளோ: இல்லை, செத்தது உன் பிள்ளை, உயிரோடிருக்கிறது என் பிள்ளை என்றாள்; இப்படி ராஜாவுக்கு முன்பாக வாதாடினார்கள்.

22. Then said the other woman Nay! but, my son, is the, living, and, thy son, the, dead. But, this, one kept on saying Nay, verily! but, thy son, is the, dead, and, my son, the, living. Thus spake they before the king.

23. அப்பொழுது ராஜா: உயிரோடிருக்கிறது என் பிள்ளை, செத்தது உன் பிள்ளை என்று இவள் சொல்லுகிறாள்; அப்படியல்ல, செத்தது உன் பிள்ளை, உயிரோடிருக்கிறது என் பிள்ளை என்று அவள் சொல்லுகிறாள் என்று சொல்லி,

23. Then said the king, The one woman, is saying, This, is, my son, the one that liveth, and, thy son, is, the one that is dead, and, the other, is saying, Nay! but, thy son, is, the dead one, and, my son, the, living.

24. ஒரு பட்டயத்தைக் கொண்டுவாருங்கள் என்றான்; அவர்கள் ஒரு பட்டயத்தை ராஜாவினிடத்தில் கொண்டுவந்தார்கள்.

24. And the king said Bring me a sword! So they brought a sword before the king.

25. ராஜா உயிரோடிருக்கிற பிள்ளையை இரண்டாக பிளந்து, பாதியை இவளுக்கும் பாதியை அவளுக்கும் கொடுங்கள் என்றான்.

25. Then said the king, Divide the living child, in twain, and give half to the one, and half to the other.

26. அப்பொழுது உயிரோடிருக்கிற பிள்ளையின் தாய், தன் பிள்ளைக்காக அவள் குடல் துடித்ததினால், ராஜாவை நோக்கி: ஐயோ, என் ஆண்டவனே, உயிரோடிருக்கிற பிள்ளையைக் கொல்லவேண்டாம்; அதை அவளுக்கே கொடுத்துவிடும் என்றாள்; மற்றவள் அது எனக்கும் வேண்டாம், உனக்கும் வேண்டாம், பிளந்து போடுங்கள் என்றாள்.

26. Then spake the woman, whose was the living child, unto the king for tender became her compassions over her son so she said Pardon, my lord! Give, her, the living child, and do not, kill, it. But the other kept on saying Neither mine, nor thine, shall it be, divide it.

27. அப்பொழுது ராஜா உயிரோடிருக்கிற பிள்ளையைக் கொல்லாமல், அவளுக்குக் கொடுத்துவிடுங்கள்; அவளே அதின் தாய் என்றான்.

27. Then responded the king, and said Give, her, the living child, ye shall not, kill, it, she, is its mother.

28. ராஜா தீர்த்த இந்த நியாயத்தை இஸ்ரவேலர் எல்லாரும் கேள்விப்பட்டு, நியாயம் விசாரிக்கிறதற்கு தேவன் அருளின ஞானம் ராஜாவுக்கு உண்டென்று கண்டு, அவனுக்குப் பயந்தார்கள்.

28. And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had delivered, and they stood in awe before the king, for they saw, that, the wisdom of God, was in him, to execute justice.
