1. மறுவருஷம் ராஜாக்கள் யுத்தத்திற்குப் புறப்படுங்காலம் வந்தபோது, தாவீது யோவாபையும், அவனோடேகூடத் தன் சேவகரையும், இஸ்ரவேல் அனைத்தையும், அம்மோன் புத்திரரை அழிக்கவும், ரப்பாவை முற்றிக்கைபோடவும் அனுப்பினான். தாவீதோ எருசலேமில் இருந்துவிட்டான்.

1. And it happened at the turn of the year, at the time when kings go out, David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel. And they destroyed the sons of Ammon, and lay siege to Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem.

2. ஒருநாள் சாயங்காலத்தில் தாவீது தன் படுக்கையிலிருந்து எழுந்து, அரமனை உப்பரிகையின்மேல் உலாத்திக்கொண்டிருக்கும்போது, ஸ்நானம்பண்ணுகிற ஒரு ஸ்திரீயை உப்பரிகையின் மேலிருந்து கண்டான்; அந்த ஸ்திரீ வெகு சௌந்தரவதியாயிருந்தாள்.

2. And it happened at evening time, David rose up from his bed and walked up and down on the roof of the king's house. And he saw from the roof a woman bathing. And the woman was very good of form.

3. அப்பொழுது தாவீது, அந்த ஸ்திரீ யார் என்று விசாரிக்க ஆள் அனுப்பினான்; அவள் எலியாமின் குமாரத்தியும், ஏத்தியனான உரியாவின் மனைவியுமாகிய பத்சேபாள் என்றார்கள்.

3. And David sent and asked about the woman. And one said, Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?

4. அப்பொழுது தாவீது ஆள் அனுப்பி அவளை அழைத்துவரச் சொன்னான்; அவள் அவனிடத்தில் வந்தபோது, அவளோடே சயனித்தான்; பிற்பாடு அவள் தன் தீட்டு நீங்கும்படி சுத்திகரித்துக்கொண்டு தன் வீட்டுக்குப் போனாள்.

4. And David sent messengers and took her. And she came to him, and he lay with her. And she purified herself from uncleanness, and she returned to her house.

5. அந்த ஸ்திரீ கர்ப்பம் தரித்து, தான் கர்ப்பவதியென்று தாவீதுக்கு அறிவிக்கும்படி ஆள் அனுப்பினாள்.

5. And the woman conceived, and sent, and told David. And she said, I am with child.

6. அப்பொழுது தாவீது: ஏத்தியனாகிய உரியாவை என்னிடத்தில் அனுப்பு என்று யோவாபினண்டைக்கு ஆள் அனுப்பினான்; அப்படியே யோவாப் உரியாவைத் தாவீதினிடத்திற்கு அனுப்பினான்.

6. And David sent to Joab, Send Uriah the Hittite to me. And Joab sent Uriah to David.

7. உரியா அவனிடத்தில் வந்தபோது, தாவீது அவனைப் பார்த்து: யோவாப் சுகமாயிருக்கிறானா, ஜனங்கள் சுகமாயிருக்கிறார்களா, யுத்தத்தின் செய்தி நற்செய்தியா என்று விசாரித்தான்.

7. And Uriah came to him. And David asked the peace of Joab, and the peace of the people, and of the success of the war.

8. பின்பு தாவீது உரியாவை நோக்கி: நீ உன் வீட்டிற்குப் போய், பாதசுத்தி செய் என்றான்; உரியா ராஜ அரமனையிலிருந்து புறப்பட்டபோது, ராஜாவினிடத்திலிருந்து உச்சிதமான பதார்த்தங்கள் அவன் பின்னாலே அனுப்பப்பட்டது.

8. And David said to Uriah, Go down to your house and wash your feet. And Uriah went out of the king's house, and a gift from the king went out after him.

9. ஆனாலும் உரியா தன் வீட்டிற்குப் போகாமல், ராஜ அரமனையின் வாசலிலே தன் ஆண்டவனுடைய எல்லாச் சேவகரோடுங்கூட படுத்துக்கொண்டிருந்தான்.

9. Uriah lay down at the entrance of the king's house, with all the servants of his lord. And he did not go down to his house.

10. உரியா தன் வீட்டிற்குப் போகவில்லையென்று தாவீதுக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டபோது, தாவீது உரியாவை நோக்கி: நீ பயணத்திலிருந்து வந்தவன் அல்லவா, நீ உன் வீட்டிற்குப் போகாதிருக்கிறது என்ன என்று கேட்டான்.

10. And they told David, saying, Uriah did not go down to his house. And David said to Uriah, Have you not come from a journey? Why have you not gone down to your house?

11. உரியா தாவீதை நோக்கி: பெட்டியும் இஸ்ரவேலும் யூதாவும் கூடாரங்களிலே தங்கி, என் ஆண்டவனாகிய யோவாபும் என் ஆண்டவனின் சேவகரும் வெளியிலே பாளயமிறங்கியிருக்கையில், நான் புசிக்கிறதற்கும், குடிக்கிறதற்கும், என் மனைவியோடே சயனிக்கிறதற்கும், என் வீட்டுக்குள் பிரவேசிப்பேனா? நான் அப்படிச் செய்கிறதில்லை என்று உம்முடையபேரிலும் உம்முடைய ஆத்துமாவின்பேரிலும் ஆணையிட்டுச் சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான்.

11. And Uriah said to David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah dwell in booths. And my lord Joab, and my lord's servants are camping on the face of the field. And I, shall I go into my house to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing.

12. அப்பொழுது தாவீது உரியாவை நோக்கி: இன்றைக்கும் நீ இங்கேயிரு; நாளைக்கு உன்னை அனுப்பிவிடுவேன் என்றான்; அப்படியே உரியா அன்றும் மறுநாளும் எருசலேமில் இருந்தான்.

12. And David said to Uriah, Remain here today also, and tomorrow I will send you away. And Uriah remained in Jerusalem on that day, and on the next day.

13. தாவீது அவனைத் தனக்கு முன்பாகப் புசித்துக் குடிக்கிறதற்கு அழைத்து, அவனை வெறிக்கப்பண்ணினான்; ஆனாலும் அவன் தன் வீட்டுக்குப் போகாமல், சாயங்காலத்திலே தன் ஆண்டவனின் சேவகரோடே தன் படுக்கையிலே படுத்துக்கொண்டான்.

13. And David called for him, and he ate and drank before him. And he made him drunk, and he went out in the evening to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord. And he did not go down to his house.

14. காலமே தாவீது யோவாபுக்கு ஒரு நிருபத்தை எழுதி, உரியாவின் கையில் கொடுத்து அனுப்பினான்.

14. And it happened in the morning David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah.

15. அந்த நிருபத்திலே மும்முரமாய் நடக்கிற போர்முகத்திலே நீங்கள் உரியாவை நிறுத்தி, அவன் வெட்டுண்டு சாகும்படிக்கு, அவனை விட்டுப் பின்வாங்குங்கள் என்று எழுதியிருந்தான்.

15. And he wrote in the letter, saying, Place Uriah in the front of the strongest battle, and withdraw from him, that he may be struck, and die.

16. அப்படியே யோவாப் அந்தப் பட்டணத்தைச் சூழக் காவல்போட்டிருக்கையில் பராக்கிரமசாலிகள் இருக்கிறார்கள் என்று தான் அறிந்த இடத்தில் உரியாவை நிறுத்தினான்.

16. And it happened, as Joab watched the city, that he sent Uriah to the place where he knew there would be mighty men.

17. பட்டணத்து மனுஷர் புறப்பட்டு வந்து யோவாபோடே யுத்தம்பண்ணுகையில், தாவீதின் சேவகராகிய ஜனத்தில் சிலர் பட்டார்கள்; ஏத்தியனாகிய உரியாவும் செத்தான்.

17. And the men of the city went out and fought with Joab, and some of the people fell of David's servants. And Uriah the Hittite also died.

18. அப்பொழுது யோவாப் அந்த யுத்தத்தின் செய்திகளையெல்லாம் தாவீதுக்கு அறிவிக்க ஆள் அனுப்பி,

18. And Joab sent and told David all the matters of the war.

19. தான் அனுப்புகிற ஆளை நோக்கி: நீ யுத்தத்தின் செய்திகளையெல்லாம் ராஜாவுக்குச் சொல்லித் தீர்ந்தபோது,

19. And he commanded the messenger, saying, As you finish all the matters of the war, speaking to the king,

20. ராஜாவுக்குக் கோபம் எழும்பி, அவர்: நீங்கள் பட்டணத்திற்கு இத்தனை கிட்டப்போய் யுத்தம் பண்ணவேண்டியது என்ன? அலங்கத்தில் நின்று எய்வார்கள் என்று உங்களுக்குத் தெரியாதா?

20. then it shall be, if the king's fury rises, and he says to you, Why did you draw near to the city to fight? Did you not know that they would shoot from off the wall?

21. எருப்பேசேத்தின் குமாரன் அபிமெலேக்கைக் கொன்றது யார்? தேபேசிலே ஒரு பெண்பிள்ளை அலங்கத்திலிருந்து ஒரு ஏந்திரக்கல்லின் துண்டை அவன்மேல் போட்டதினால் அல்லவோ அவன் செத்தான்; நீங்கள் அலங்கத்திற்கு இத்தனை கிட்டப்போனது என்ன என்று உன்னோடே சொன்னால், அப்பொழுது நீ, உம்முடைய சேவகனாகிய உரியா என்னும் ஏத்தியனும் செத்தான் என்று சொல் என்றான்.

21. Who killed Abimelech the son of Jerub-besheth? Did not a woman throw a piece of a riding millstone on him from the wall, and he died in Thebez? Why did you draw near to the wall? Then you shall say, Also your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead.

22. அந்த ஆள் போய், உட்பிரவேசித்து, யோவாப் தன்னிடத்தில் சொல்லியனுப்பின செய்திகளையெல்லாம் தாவீதுக்கு அறிவித்து,

22. And the messenger went and came and told David all that which Joab had sent him to tell,

23. தாவீதைப் பார்த்து; அந்த மனுஷர் கைமிஞ்சி, அவர்கள் வெளியே எங்களுக்கு எதிராகப் புறப்பட்டு வந்தபோது, நாங்கள் பட்டணவாசல்மட்டும் அவர்களைத் துரத்தினோம்.

23. and the messenger said to David, Surely the men have been mighty against us, and came out to us into the field. And we were on them to the entrance of the gate.

24. அப்பொழுது வில்வீரர் அலங்கத்திலிருந்து உம்முடைய சேவகரின்மேல் எய்ததினால், ராஜாவின் சேவகரில் சிலர் செத்தார்கள்; உம்முடைய சேவகனாகிய உரியா என்னும் ஏத்தியனும் செத்தான் என்றான்.

24. And those shooting shot at your servants from off the wall, and some of the servants of the king are dead. And also your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead.

25. அப்பொழுது தாவீது அந்த ஆளை நோக்கி: நீ யோவாபினிடத்தில் போய், இந்தக் காரியத்தைப்பற்றி விசாரப்படவேண்டாம்; பட்டயம் ஒருவேளை ஒருவனையும், ஒருவேளை வேறொருவனையும் பட்சிக்கும்; நீ யுத்தத்தைப் பலக்கப்பண்ணி, பட்டணத்தை இடித்துப்போடு என்று அவனுக்குத் திடஞ்சொல் என்றான்.

25. And David said to the messenger, You shall say to Joab, Do not let this thing be evil in your eyes. For the sword devours one as well as another. Make your battle stronger against the city, and overthrow it. And make him strong.

26. தன் புருஷனாகிய உரியா செத்தான் என்று அவன் மனைவி கேள்விப்பட்டபோது, அவள் தன் நாயகனுக்காக இழவு கொண்டாடினாள்.

26. And Uriah's wife heard that her husband Uriah was dead. And she mourned for her husband.

27. துக்கநாள் சென்றபின்பு, தாவீது அவளை அழைத்தனுப்பி, தன் வீட்டிலே சேர்த்துக்கொண்டான்; அவள் அவனுக்கு மனைவியாகி, அவனுக்கு ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்றாள். தாவீது செய்த இந்தக் காரியம் கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குப் பொல்லாததாயிருந்தது.

27. And the mourning time passed by. And David sent and gathered her to his house; and she became his wife, and bore a son to him. And the thing which David had done was evil in the eyes of Jehovah.
