1. லேயாள் யாக்கோபுக்குப் பெற்ற குமாரத்தியாகிய தீனாள் தேசத்துப் பெண்களைப் பார்க்கப் புறப்பட்டாள்.

1. Now Dinah, the daughter whom Leah had by Jacob, went out to see the women of that country.

2. அவளை ஏவியனான ஏமோரின் குமாரனும் அத்தேசத்தின் பிரபுவுமாகிய சீகேம் என்பவன் கண்டு, அவளைக் கொண்டுபோய், அவளோடே சயனித்து, அவளைத் தீட்டுப்படுத்தினான்.

2. And when Shechem, the son of Hamor the Hivite who was the chief of that land, saw her, he took her by force and had connection with her.

3. அவனுடைய மனம் யாக்கோபின் குமாரத்தி.யாகிய தீனாள்மேல் பற்றுதலாயிருந்தது; அவன் அந்தப் பெண்ணை நேசித்து, அந்தப் பெண்ணின் மனதுக்கு இன்பமாய்ப் பேசினான்.

3. Then his heart went out in love to Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, and he said comforting words to her.

4. சீகேம் தன் தகப்பனாகிய ஏமோரை நோக்கி: இந்தப் பெண்ணை எனக்குக் கொள்ளவேண்டும் என்று சொன்னான்.

4. And Shechem said to Hamor, his father, Get me this girl for my wife.

5. தன் குமாரத்தியாகிய தீனாளை அவன் தீட்டுப்படுத்தினதை யாக்கோபு கேள்விப்பட்டபோது, அவன் குமாரர் அவனுடைய மந்தையினிடத்தில் வெளியிலே இருந்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் வருமளவும் யாக்கோபு பேசாமலிருந்தான்.

5. Now Jacob had word of what Shechem had done to his daughter; but his sons were in the fields with the cattle, and Jacob said nothing till they came.

6. அத்தருணத்தில் சீகேமின் தகப்பனாகிய ஏமோர் புறப்பட்டு, யாக்கோபோடே பேசும்படி அவனிடத்தில் வந்தான்.

6. Then Hamor, the father of Shechem, came out to have a talk with Jacob.

7. யாக்கோபின் குமாரர் இந்தச் செய்தியைக் கேட்டவுடனே, வெளியிலிருந்து வந்தார்கள். அவன் யாக்கோபின் குமாரத்தியோடே சயனித்து, செய்யத்தகாத மதிகெட்ட காரியத்தை இஸ்ரவேலில் செய்ததினாலே, அந்த மனிதர் மனங்கொதித்து மிகவும் கோபங்கொண்டார்கள்.

7. Now the sons of Jacob came in from the fields when they had news of it, and they were wounded and very angry because of the shame he had done in Israel by having connection with Jacob's daughter; and they said, Such a thing is not to be done.

8. ஏமோர் அவர்களோடே பேசி: என் குமாரனாகிய சீகேமின் மனது உங்கள் குமாரத்தியின்மேல் பற்றுதலாயிருக்கிறது; அவளை அவனுக்கு மனைவியாகக் கொடுங்கள்.

8. But Hamor said to them, Shechem, my son, is full of desire for your daughter: will you then give her to him for a wife?

9. நீங்கள் எங்களோடே சம்பந்தங்கலந்து, உங்கள் குமாரத்திகளை எங்களுக்குக் கொடுத்து, எங்கள் குமாரத்திகளை உங்களுக்குக் கொண்டு,

9. And let our two peoples be joined together; give your daughters to us, and take our daughters for yourselves.

10. எங்களோடே வாசம்பண்ணுங்கள்; தேசம் உங்கள் முன்பாக இருக்கிறது; இதிலே குடியிருந்து, வியாபாரம்பண்ணி, பொருள் சம்பாதித்து, அதைக் கையாண்டுகொண்டிருங்கள் என்றான்.

10. Go on living with us, and the country will be open to you; do trade and get property there.

11. சீகேமும் அவள் தகப்பனையும் அவள் சகோதரனையும் நோக்கி: உங்கள் கண்களில் எனக்குத் தயவு கிடைக்கவேண்டும்; நீங்கள் என்னிடத்தில் எதைக் கேட்டாலும் தருகிறேன்;

11. And Shechem said to her father and her brothers, If you will give ear to my request, whatever you say I will give to you.

12. பரிசமும் வெகுமதியும் நீங்கள் எவ்வளவு கேட்டாலும், உங்கள் சொற்படி தருகிறேன்; அந்தப் பெண்ணைமாத்திரம் எனக்கு மனைவியாகக் கொடுக்கவேண்டும் என்றான்.

12. However great you make the bride-price and payment, I will give it; only let me have the girl for my wife.

13. அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபின் குமாரர் தங்கள் சகோதரியாகிய தீனாளைச் சீகேம் என்பவன் தீட்டுப்படுத்தினபடியால், அவனுக்கும் அவன் தகப்பனாகிய ஏமோருக்கும் வஞ்சகமான மறுமொழியாக:

13. But the sons of Jacob gave a false answer to Shechem and Hamor his father, because of what had been done to Dinah their sister.

14. விருத்தசேதனமில்லாத புருஷனுக்கு நாங்கள் எங்கள் சகோதரியைக் கொடுக்கலாகாது; அது எங்களுக்கு நிந்தையாயிருக்கும்.

14. And they said, It is not possible for us to give our sister to one who is without circumcision, for that would be a cause of shame to us:

15. நீங்களும், உங்களுக்குள்ளிருக்கும் ஆண்மக்கள் யாவரும் விருத்தசேதனம்பண்ணப்பட்டு எங்களைப்போலாவீர்களானால், நாங்கள் சம்மதித்து,

15. But on this condition only will we come to an agreement with you: if every male among you becomes like us and undergoes circumcision;

16. உங்களுக்கு எங்கள் குமாரத்திகளைக் கொடுத்து, உங்கள் குமாரத்திகளை எங்களுக்குக் கொண்டு, உங்களோடே குடியிருந்து, ஏகஜனமாயிருப்போம்.

16. Then we will give our daughters to you and take your daughters to us and go on living with you as one people.

17. விருத்தசேதனம்பண்ணிக்கொள்வதற்கு எங்கள் சொல் கேளாமற்போவீர்களானால், நாங்கள் எங்கள் குமாரத்தியை அழைத்துக்கொண்டு போய்விடுவோம் என்று சொன்னார்கள்.

17. But if you will not undergo circumcision as we say, then we will take our daughter and go.

18. அவர்களுடைய வார்த்தைகள் ஏமோருக்கும் ஏமோரின் குமாரனாகிய சீகேமுக்கும் நலமாய்த் தோன்றினது.

18. And their words were pleasing to Hamor and his son Shechem.

19. அந்த வாலிபன் யாக்கோபுடைய குமாரத்தியின்மேல் பிரியம் வைத்திருந்தபடியால், அந்தக் காரியத்தைச் செய்ய அவன் தாமதம்பண்ணவில்லை. அவன் தன் தகப்பன் வீட்டார் அனைவருக்குள்ளும் மேன்மையுள்ளவனாயிருந்தான்.

19. And without loss of time the young man did as they said, because he had delight in Jacob's daughter, and he was the noblest of his father's house.

20. ஏமோரும் அவன் குமாரன் சீகேமும் தங்கள் பட்டணத்து வாசலில் வந்து, தங்கள் பட்டணத்து மனிதரோடே பேசி:

20. Then Hamor and Shechem, his son, went to the meeting-place of their town, and said to the men of the town,

21. இந்த மனிதர் நம்மோடே சமாதானமாயிருக்கிறார்கள்; ஆகையால், அவர்கள் இந்தத் தேசத்தில் வாசம்பண்ணி, இதிலே வியாபாரம்பண்ணட்டும்; அவர்களும் வாசம்பண்ணுகிறதற்கு தேசம் விஸ்தாரமாயிருக்கிறது; அவர்களுடைய குமாரத்திகளை நமக்கு மனைவிகளாகக் கொண்டு, நம்முடைய குமாரத்திகளை அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுப்போம்.

21. It is the desire of these men to be at peace with us; let them then go on living in this country and doing trade here, for the country is wide open before them; let us take their daughters as wives and let us give them our daughters.

22. அந்த மனிதர் விருத்தசேதனம்பண்ணப்பட்டவர்களாயிருக்கிறது போல, நம்மிலுள்ள ஆண்மக்கள் யாவரும் விருத்தசேதனம்பண்ணப்பட்டால், அவர்கள் ஏகஜனமாக நம்மோடே வாசம்பண்ணச் சம்மதிப்பார்கள்.

22. But these men will make an agreement with us to go on living with us and to become one people, only on the condition that every male among us undergoes circumcision as they have done.

23. அவர்களுடைய ஆடுமாடுகள் ஆஸ்திகள் மிருகஜீவன்கள் எல்லாம் நம்மைச் சேருமல்லவா? அவர்களுக்குச் சம்மதிப்போமானால், அவர்கள் நம்முடனே வாசம்பண்ணுவார்கள் என்று சொன்னார்கள்.

23. Then will not their cattle and their goods and all their beasts be ours? so let us come to an agreement with them so that they may go on living with us.

24. அப்பொழுது ஏமோரின் பட்டணத்து வாசலில் புறப்பட்டுவரும் அனைவரும் அவன் சொல்லையும், அவன் குமாரனாகிய சீகேமின் சொல்லையும் கேட்டு, அவனுடைய பட்டணத்து வாசலில் புறப்பட்டுவரும் ஆண்மக்கள் யாவரும் விருத்தசேதனம்பண்ணப்பட்டார்கள்.

24. Then all the men of the town gave ear to the words of Hamor and Shechem his son; and every male in the town underwent circumcision.

25. மூன்றாம் நாளில் அவர்களுக்கு நோவெடுத்துக்கொண்டபோது, யாக்கோபின் குமாரரும் தீனாளின் சகோதரருமான சிமியோன் லேவி என்னும் இவ்விரண்டு பேரும் தன்தன் பட்டயத்தை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு, துணிகரமாய்ப் பட்டணத்தின் மேல் பாய்ந்து, ஆண்மக்கள் யாவரையும் கொன்றுபோட்டார்கள்.

25. But on the third day after, before the wounds were well, two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, took their swords and came into the town by surprise and put all the males to death.

26. ஏமோரையும், அவன் குமாரன் சீகேமையும் பட்டயக்கருக்காலே கொன்று, சீகேமின் வீட்டிலிருந்த தீனாளை அழைத்துக்கொண்டு போய்விட்டார்கள்.

26. And Hamor and his son they put to death with the sword, and they took Dinah from Shechem's house and went away.

27. மேலும், யாக்கோபின் குமாரர் வெட்டுண்டவர்களிடத்தில் வந்து, தங்கள் சகோதரியை அவர்கள் தீட்டுப்படுத்தினதற்காகப் பட்டணத்தைக் கொள்ளையிட்டு,

27. And the sons of Jacob came on them when they were wounded and made waste the town because of what had been done to their sister;

28. அவர்களுடைய ஆடுமாடுகளையும், கழுதைகளையும், பட்டணத்திலும் வயல்வெளியிலும் இருந்தவைகள் யாவையும்,

28. They took their flocks and their herds and their asses and everything in their town and in their fields,

29. அவர்களுடைய எல்லாத் தட்டுமுட்டுகளையும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு, அவர்களுடைய எல்லாக் குழந்தைகளையும் ஸ்திரீகளையும் சிறைபிடித்து, வீட்டிலிருந்த எல்லாவற்றையும் கொள்ளையிட்டார்கள்.

29. And all their wealth and all their little ones and their wives; everything in their houses they took and made them waste.

30. அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு சிமியோனையும் லேவியையும் பார்த்து: இந்தத் தேசத்தில் குடியிருக்கிற கானானியரிடத்திலும் பெரிசியரிடத்திலும் என் வாசனையை நீங்கள் கெடுத்ததினாலே என்னைக் கலங்கப்பண்ணினீர்கள்; நான் கொஞ்ச ஜனமுள்ளவன்; அவர்கள் எனக்கு விரோதமாய்க் கூட்டங்கூடி, நானும் என் குடும்பமும் அழியும்படி என்னை வெட்டிப்போடுவார்களே என்றான்.

30. And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, You have made trouble for me and given me a bad name among the people of this country, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites: and because we are small in number they will come together against me and make war on me; and it will be the end of me and all my people.

31. அதற்கு அவர்கள்: எங்கள் சகோதரியை அவர்கள் ஒரு வேசியைப்போல நடத்தலாமோ என்றார்கள்.

31. But they said, Were we to let him make use of our sister as a loose woman?
