1. லேயாள் யாக்கோபுக்குப் பெற்ற குமாரத்தியாகிய தீனாள் தேசத்துப் பெண்களைப் பார்க்கப் புறப்பட்டாள்.

1. One time Dinah the daughter of Le'ah, whom she had borne to Ya'akov, went out to visit the local girls;

2. அவளை ஏவியனான ஏமோரின் குமாரனும் அத்தேசத்தின் பிரபுவுமாகிய சீகேம் என்பவன் கண்டு, அவளைக் கொண்டுபோய், அவளோடே சயனித்து, அவளைத் தீட்டுப்படுத்தினான்.

2. and Sh'khem the son of Hamor the Hivi, the local ruler, saw her, grabbed her, raped her and humiliated her.

3. அவனுடைய மனம் யாக்கோபின் குமாரத்தி.யாகிய தீனாள்மேல் பற்றுதலாயிருந்தது; அவன் அந்தப் பெண்ணை நேசித்து, அந்தப் பெண்ணின் மனதுக்கு இன்பமாய்ப் பேசினான்.

3. But actually he was strongly attracted to Dinah the daughter of Ya'akov; he fell in love with the girl and tried to win her affection.

4. சீகேம் தன் தகப்பனாகிய ஏமோரை நோக்கி: இந்தப் பெண்ணை எனக்குக் கொள்ளவேண்டும் என்று சொன்னான்.

4. Sh'khem spoke with his father Hamor and said, 'Get this girl for me; I want her to be my wife.'

5. தன் குமாரத்தியாகிய தீனாளை அவன் தீட்டுப்படுத்தினதை யாக்கோபு கேள்விப்பட்டபோது, அவன் குமாரர் அவனுடைய மந்தையினிடத்தில் வெளியிலே இருந்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் வருமளவும் யாக்கோபு பேசாமலிருந்தான்.

5. When Ya'akov heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter, his sons were with his livestock in the field; so Ya'akov restrained himself until they came.

6. அத்தருணத்தில் சீகேமின் தகப்பனாகிய ஏமோர் புறப்பட்டு, யாக்கோபோடே பேசும்படி அவனிடத்தில் வந்தான்.

6. Hamor the father of Sh'khem went out to Ya'akov to speak with him

7. யாக்கோபின் குமாரர் இந்தச் செய்தியைக் கேட்டவுடனே, வெளியிலிருந்து வந்தார்கள். அவன் யாக்கோபின் குமாரத்தியோடே சயனித்து, செய்யத்தகாத மதிகெட்ட காரியத்தை இஸ்ரவேலில் செய்ததினாலே, அந்த மனிதர் மனங்கொதித்து மிகவும் கோபங்கொண்டார்கள்.

7. just as Ya'akov's sons were coming in from the field. When they heard what had happened, the men were saddened and were very angry at the outrage this man had committed against Isra'el by raping Ya'akov's daughter, something that is simply not done.

8. ஏமோர் அவர்களோடே பேசி: என் குமாரனாகிய சீகேமின் மனது உங்கள் குமாரத்தியின்மேல் பற்றுதலாயிருக்கிறது; அவளை அவனுக்கு மனைவியாகக் கொடுங்கள்.

8. But Hamor said to them, 'My son Sh'khem's heart is set on your daughter. Please give her to him as his wife;

9. நீங்கள் எங்களோடே சம்பந்தங்கலந்து, உங்கள் குமாரத்திகளை எங்களுக்குக் கொடுத்து, எங்கள் குமாரத்திகளை உங்களுக்குக் கொண்டு,

9. and intermarry with us: give your daughters to us, and take our daughters for yourselves.

10. எங்களோடே வாசம்பண்ணுங்கள்; தேசம் உங்கள் முன்பாக இருக்கிறது; இதிலே குடியிருந்து, வியாபாரம்பண்ணி, பொருள் சம்பாதித்து, அதைக் கையாண்டுகொண்டிருங்கள் என்றான்.

10. You will live with us, and the land will be available to you- you'll live, do business and acquire possessions here.'

11. சீகேமும் அவள் தகப்பனையும் அவள் சகோதரனையும் நோக்கி: உங்கள் கண்களில் எனக்குத் தயவு கிடைக்கவேண்டும்; நீங்கள் என்னிடத்தில் எதைக் கேட்டாலும் தருகிறேன்;

11. Then Sh'khem said to her father and brothers, 'Only accept me, and I will give whatever you tell me.

12. பரிசமும் வெகுமதியும் நீங்கள் எவ்வளவு கேட்டாலும், உங்கள் சொற்படி தருகிறேன்; அந்தப் பெண்ணைமாத்திரம் எனக்கு மனைவியாகக் கொடுக்கவேண்டும் என்றான்.

12. Ask as large a bride-price as you like, I'll pay whatever you tell me. Just let me marry the girl.'

13. அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபின் குமாரர் தங்கள் சகோதரியாகிய தீனாளைச் சீகேம் என்பவன் தீட்டுப்படுத்தினபடியால், அவனுக்கும் அவன் தகப்பனாகிய ஏமோருக்கும் வஞ்சகமான மறுமொழியாக:

13. The sons of Ya'akov answered Sh'khem and Hamor his father deceitfully, because he had defiled Dinah their sister.

14. விருத்தசேதனமில்லாத புருஷனுக்கு நாங்கள் எங்கள் சகோதரியைக் கொடுக்கலாகாது; அது எங்களுக்கு நிந்தையாயிருக்கும்.

14. They said to them, 'We can't do it, because it would be a disgrace to give our sister to someone who hasn't been circumcised.

15. நீங்களும், உங்களுக்குள்ளிருக்கும் ஆண்மக்கள் யாவரும் விருத்தசேதனம்பண்ணப்பட்டு எங்களைப்போலாவீர்களானால், நாங்கள் சம்மதித்து,

15. Only on this condition will we consent to what you are asking: that you become like us by having every male among you get circumcised.

16. உங்களுக்கு எங்கள் குமாரத்திகளைக் கொடுத்து, உங்கள் குமாரத்திகளை எங்களுக்குக் கொண்டு, உங்களோடே குடியிருந்து, ஏகஜனமாயிருப்போம்.

16. Then we'll give our daughters to you, and we'll take your daughters for ourselves, and we'll live with you and become one people.

17. விருத்தசேதனம்பண்ணிக்கொள்வதற்கு எங்கள் சொல் கேளாமற்போவீர்களானால், நாங்கள் எங்கள் குமாரத்தியை அழைத்துக்கொண்டு போய்விடுவோம் என்று சொன்னார்கள்.

17. But if you won't do as we say and get circumcised, then we'll take our daughter and go away.'

18. அவர்களுடைய வார்த்தைகள் ஏமோருக்கும் ஏமோரின் குமாரனாகிய சீகேமுக்கும் நலமாய்த் தோன்றினது.

18. What they said seemed fair to Hamor and Sh'khem the son of Hamor,

19. அந்த வாலிபன் யாக்கோபுடைய குமாரத்தியின்மேல் பிரியம் வைத்திருந்தபடியால், அந்தக் காரியத்தைச் செய்ய அவன் தாமதம்பண்ணவில்லை. அவன் தன் தகப்பன் வீட்டார் அனைவருக்குள்ளும் மேன்மையுள்ளவனாயிருந்தான்.

19. and the young man did not put off doing what was asked of him, even though he was the most respected member of his father's family, because he so much wanted Ya'akov' s daughter.

20. ஏமோரும் அவன் குமாரன் சீகேமும் தங்கள் பட்டணத்து வாசலில் வந்து, தங்கள் பட்டணத்து மனிதரோடே பேசி:

20. Hamor and Sh'khem his son came to the entrance of their city and spoke with its leading men:

21. 'These people are peaceful toward us; therefore let them live in the land and do business in it; for, as you can see, the land is large enough for them. Let us take their daughters as wives for ourselves, and we'll give them our daughters.

22. அந்த மனிதர் விருத்தசேதனம்பண்ணப்பட்டவர்களாயிருக்கிறது போல, நம்மிலுள்ள ஆண்மக்கள் யாவரும் விருத்தசேதனம்பண்ணப்பட்டால், அவர்கள் ஏகஜனமாக நம்மோடே வாசம்பண்ணச் சம்மதிப்பார்கள்.

22. But the people will consent to live with us and become one people only on this condition: that every male among us gets circumcised, as they themselves are circumcised.

23. அவர்களுடைய ஆடுமாடுகள் ஆஸ்திகள் மிருகஜீவன்கள் எல்லாம் நம்மைச் சேருமல்லவா? அவர்களுக்குச் சம்மதிப்போமானால், அவர்கள் நம்முடனே வாசம்பண்ணுவார்கள் என்று சொன்னார்கள்.

23. Won't their cattle, their possessions and all their animals be ours? Only let's consent to do what they ask, and then they will live with us.'

24. அப்பொழுது ஏமோரின் பட்டணத்து வாசலில் புறப்பட்டுவரும் அனைவரும் அவன் சொல்லையும், அவன் குமாரனாகிய சீகேமின் சொல்லையும் கேட்டு, அவனுடைய பட்டணத்து வாசலில் புறப்பட்டுவரும் ஆண்மக்கள் யாவரும் விருத்தசேதனம்பண்ணப்பட்டார்கள்.

24. Everyone going out the city's gate listened to Hamor and Sh'khem his son; so every male was circumcised, every one that went out the gate of the city.

25. மூன்றாம் நாளில் அவர்களுக்கு நோவெடுத்துக்கொண்டபோது, யாக்கோபின் குமாரரும் தீனாளின் சகோதரருமான சிமியோன் லேவி என்னும் இவ்விரண்டு பேரும் தன்தன் பட்டயத்தை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு, துணிகரமாய்ப் பட்டணத்தின் மேல் பாய்ந்து, ஆண்மக்கள் யாவரையும் கொன்றுபோட்டார்கள்.

25. On the third day after the circumcision, when they were in pain, two of Ya'akov's sons, Shim'on and Levi, Dinah's brothers, took their swords, boldly descended on the city and slaughtered all the males.

26. ஏமோரையும், அவன் குமாரன் சீகேமையும் பட்டயக்கருக்காலே கொன்று, சீகேமின் வீட்டிலிருந்த தீனாளை அழைத்துக்கொண்டு போய்விட்டார்கள்.

26. They killed Hamor and Sh'khem his son with their swords, took Dinah out of Sh'khem's house, and left.

27. மேலும், யாக்கோபின் குமாரர் வெட்டுண்டவர்களிடத்தில் வந்து, தங்கள் சகோதரியை அவர்கள் தீட்டுப்படுத்தினதற்காகப் பட்டணத்தைக் கொள்ளையிட்டு,

27. Then the sons of Ya'akov entered over the dead bodies of those who had been slaughtered and plundered the city in reprisal for defiling their sister.

28. அவர்களுடைய ஆடுமாடுகளையும், கழுதைகளையும், பட்டணத்திலும் வயல்வெளியிலும் இருந்தவைகள் யாவையும்,

28. They took their flocks, cattle and donkeys, and everything else, whether in the city or in the field,

29. அவர்களுடைய எல்லாத் தட்டுமுட்டுகளையும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு, அவர்களுடைய எல்லாக் குழந்தைகளையும் ஸ்திரீகளையும் சிறைபிடித்து, வீட்டிலிருந்த எல்லாவற்றையும் கொள்ளையிட்டார்கள்.

29. everything they owned. Their children and wives they took captive, and they looted whatever was in the houses.

30. அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு சிமியோனையும் லேவியையும் பார்த்து: இந்தத் தேசத்தில் குடியிருக்கிற கானானியரிடத்திலும் பெரிசியரிடத்திலும் என் வாசனையை நீங்கள் கெடுத்ததினாலே என்னைக் கலங்கப்பண்ணினீர்கள்; நான் கொஞ்ச ஜனமுள்ளவன்; அவர்கள் எனக்கு விரோதமாய்க் கூட்டங்கூடி, நானும் என் குடும்பமும் அழியும்படி என்னை வெட்டிப்போடுவார்களே என்றான்.

30. But Ya'akov said to Shim'on and Levi, 'You have caused me trouble by making me stink in the opinion of the local inhabitants, the Kena'ani and the P'rizi. Since I don't have many people, they'll align themselves together against me and attack me; and I will be destroyed, I and my household.'

31. அதற்கு அவர்கள்: எங்கள் சகோதரியை அவர்கள் ஒரு வேசியைப்போல நடத்தலாமோ என்றார்கள்.

31. They replied, 'Should we let our sister be treated like a whore?'
