1. எரிகோ இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்கு முன்பாக அடைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது; ஒருவரும் வெளியே போகவுமில்லை, ஒருவரும் உள்ளே வரவுமில்லை.

1. And Jericho shut in her people, and was shut for fear of the children of Israel, so that no man went out or in.

2. கர்த்தர் யோசுவாவை நோக்கி: இதோ, எரிகோவையும் அதின் ராஜாவையும், யுத்தவீரரையும் உன் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தேன்.

2. And the LORD said into Josua: behold, I have given into thine hand, Jericho and her king and the men of war.

3. யுத்தபுருஷராகிய நீங்கள் அனைவரும் பட்டணத்தைச் சூழ்ந்து ஒருதரம் சுற்றி வாருங்கள்; இப்படி ஆறுநாள் செய்யக்கடவீர்கள்.

3. And ye shall compass the city, all that be men of war, and go round about it once: and so shall you do six days.

4. ஏழு ஆசாரியர் பெட்டிக்கு முன்பாக ஏழு கொம்பு எக்காளங்களைப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டு போகவேண்டும்; ஏழாம்நாளில் பட்டணத்தை ஏழுதரம் சுற்றிவரக்கடவர்கள்; ஆசாரியர் எக்காளங்களை ஊதவேண்டும்.

4. And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark. And the seventh day, ye shall compass the city seven times and the priests shall blow with their trumpets.

5. அவர்கள் அந்தக் கொம்புகளினால் நெடுந்தொனி இடும்போதும், நீங்கள் எக்காள சத்தத்தைக் கேட்கும்போதும், ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் மகா ஆரவாரத்தோடே ஆர்ப்பரிக்கக்கடவர்கள்; அப்பொழுது பட்டணத்தின் அலங்கம் இடிந்துவிழும்; உடனே ஜனங்கள் அவரவர் தங்களுக்கு நேராக ஏறக்கடவர்கள் என்றார்.

5. And when there is a long blast blown with the ram's horn, as soon as ye hear the sound of the horn, let all the people shout a mighty shout. And then shall the walls of the city fall down, and the people shall ascend up, every man straight before him.

6. அந்தப்படியே நூனின் குமாரனாகிய யோசுவா ஆசாரியரை அழைத்து: உடன்படிக்கைப் பெட்டியை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு போங்கள்; தொனிக்கும் ஏழு எக்காளங்களையும் ஏழு ஆசாரியர்கள் கர்த்தருடைய பெட்டிக்கு முன்பாகப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டு போகக்கடவர்கள் என்று சொல்லி;

6. And Josua the son of Nun, called unto the priests and said unto them: take up the ark of the appointment, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD.

7. ஜனங்களை நோக்கி: பட்டணத்தைச் சுற்றி நடந்துபோங்கள்; யுத்தசன்னத்தரானவர்கள் கர்த்தரின் பெட்டிக்குமுன் நடக்கக்கடவர்கள் என்றான்.

7. And he said unto the people, go and compass the city: And let the men of arms go before the ark of the LORD.

8. யோசுவா ஜனங்களிடத்தில் பேசினவுடனே, தொனிக்கும் ஏழு எக்காளங்களைப் பிடித்திருக்கிற ஏழு ஆசாரியர் கர்த்தருக்கு முன்பாக நடந்து எக்காளங்களை ஊதினார்கள்; கர்த்தருடைய உடன்படிக்கைப்பெட்டி அவர்களுக்குப் பின் சென்றது.

8. And when Josua had spoken unto the people, the seven priests that bare the seven trumpets of rams horns before the ark of the LORD, went forth and blew with the horns, and the ark of the testament of the LORD followed after them.

9. எக்காளங்களை ஊதுகிற ஆசாரியருக்குமுன் யுத்தசன்னத்தரானவர்கள் நடந்தார்கள்; பின்தண்டு எக்காளங்கள் ஊதப்படும்போது பெட்டிக்குப் பின் சென்றது.

9. And the men of arms went before the priests that blew with the horns, and the common people came after the ark: and as they went, they blew with the horns.

10. யோசுவா ஜனங்களை நோக்கி: நான் சொல்லும் நாள்மட்டும், நீங்கள் ஆர்ப்பரியாமலும் உங்கள் வாயினால் சத்தங்காட்டாமலும் இருங்கள்; உங்கள் வாயிலிருந்து ஒரு பேச்சும் புறப்படவேண்டாம்; ஆர்ப்பரியுங்கள் என்று உங்களுக்கு நான் சொல்லும் நாளிலே ஆர்ப்பரிப்பீர்களாக என்று கட்டளையிட்டிருந்தான்.

10. And Josua commanded the people saying, shout not nor let your voice be heard, or any word proceed out of your mouths, until the day I bid you shout: and then shout.

11. அப்படியே கர்த்தரின் பெட்டியைப் பட்டணத்தைச் சூழ்ந்து ஒருதரம் சுற்றிவரப்பண்ணினான்; அவர்கள் திரும்பப் பாளயத்திலே வந்து, பாளயத்தில் இராத்தங்கினார்கள்.

11. And so the ark of the LORD compassed the city and went about it once: and then they returned unto the host and lodged there.

12. யோசுவா அதிகாலமே எழுந்திருந்தான்; ஆசாரியர்கள் கர்த்தரின் பெட்டியைச் சுமந்துகொண்டு போனார்கள்.

12. And Josua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the LORD,

13. தொனிக்கும் ஏழு எக்காளங்களைப் பிடிக்கிற ஏழு ஆசாரியர்களும் எக்காளங்களை ஊதிக்கொண்டே கர்த்தரின் பெட்டிக்கு முன்பாக நடந்தார்கள்; யுத்தசன்னத்தரானவர்கள் அவர்களுக்கு முன்னாலே நடந்தார்கள்; பின்தண்டோவெனில் எக்காளங்கள் ஊதப்படுகையில், கர்த்தரின் பெட்டிக்குப் பின்சென்றது.

13. and seven priests bare seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD, and as they went, blew with the horns. And the men of arms went before them, and the common people came after the ark of the LORD: and as they went, they blew with the horns.

14. இரண்டாம் நாளிலும் பட்டணத்தை ஒருதரம் சுற்றிவந்து, பாளயத்துக்குத் திரும்பினார்கள்; இந்தப்படி ஆறுநாளும் செய்தார்கள்.

14. And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned again into the host, and so they did six days long.

15. ஏழாம் நாளில், அதிகாலமே கிழக்கு வெளுக்கும்போது எழுந்திருந்து அந்தப் பிரகாரமே பட்டணத்தை ஏழுதரம் சுற்றிவந்தார்கள்; அன்றையத்தினத்தில் மாத்திரம் பட்டணத்தை ஏழுதரம் சுற்றிவந்தார்கள்.

15. And the seventh day they rose early: even with the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only that they compassed the city seven times.

16. ஏழாந்தரம் ஆசாரியர் எக்காளங்களை ஊதுகையில், யோசுவா ஜனங்களை நோக்கி: ஆர்ப்பரியுங்கள், பட்டணத்தைக் கர்த்தர் உங்களுக்கு ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்.

16. And at the seventh time, the priests blew with the horns, and Josua said unto the people, shout for the LORD hath given you the city.

17. ஆனாலும் இந்தப் பட்டணமும் இதிலுள்ள யாவும் கர்த்தருக்குச் சாபத்தீடாயிருக்கும்; நாம் அனுப்பின ஆட்களை ராகாப் என்னும் வேசி மறைத்துவைத்தபடியால், அவளும் அவளோடே வீட்டுக்குள் இருக்கிற அனைவரும் மாத்திரம் உயிரோடிருக்கக்கடவர்கள்.

17. But the city shall be excommunicate, both it and all that is therein, unto the LORD: onely Rahab the harlot shall live, both she and all that is with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.

18. சாபத்தீடானதில் ஏதாகிலும் எடுத்துக்கொள்ளுகிறதினாலே, நீங்கள் சாபத்தீடாகாதபடிக்கும், இஸ்ரவேல் பாளயத்தைச் சாபத்தீடாக்கி அதைக் கலங்கப்பண்ணாதபடிக்கும், நீங்கள் சாபத்தீடானதற்கு மாத்திரம் எச்சரிக்கையாயிருங்கள்.

18. And in any wise beware of the excommunicate things, lest ye make yourselves excommunicate. For if you take of the excommunicate things, so shall you make the host of Israel excommunicate and shall trouble it.

19. சகல வெள்ளியும், பொன்னும், வெண்கலத்தினாலும் இரும்பினாலும் செய்யப்பட்ட பாத்திரங்களும், கர்த்தருக்குப் பரிசுத்தமானவைகள்; அவைகள் கர்த்தரின் பொக்கிஷத்தில் சேரும் என்றான்.

19. But of the silver, gold, vessels of brass and iron shall be holy unto the LORD and shall go into his treasury.

20. எக்காளங்களை ஊதுகையில், ஜனங்கள் ஆர்ப்பரித்தார்கள்; எக்காள சத்தத்தை ஜனங்கள் கேட்டு, மகா ஆரவாரத்தோடே முழங்குகையில், அலங்கம் இடிந்து விழுந்தது; உடனே ஜனங்கள் அவரவர் தங்களுக்கு நேராகப் பட்டணத்தில் ஏறி, பட்டணத்தைப் பிடித்து,

20. And the people cried, and blew with horns: for when the people heard the sound of the horns, they shouted a great shout: and the walls fell down, and the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and took the city.

21. பட்டணத்திலிருந்த புருஷரையும் ஸ்திரீகளையும் வாலிபரையும் கிழவரையும் ஆடுமாடுகளையும் கழுதைகளையும் சகலத்தையும் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் சங்காரம்பண்ணினார்கள்.

21. And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, ox, sheep and Ass, with the edge of the sword.

22. யோசுவா, தேசத்தை வேவுபார்த்த இரண்டு புருஷரை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் அந்த வேசியின் வீட்டிலே போய், நீங்கள் அவளுக்கு ஆணையிட்டபடி அந்த ஸ்திரீயையும் அவளுக்கு உண்டான யாவையும் அங்கேயிருந்து வெளியே கொண்டுவாருங்கள் என்றான்.

22. Then Josua said to the two men that went to spy out the country: go into the harlot's house, and bring out thence, both the woman and all that pertaineth to her, as ye sware to her.

23. அப்பொழுது வேவுகாரரான அந்த வாலிபர் உள்ளே போய், ராகாபையும் அவள் தகப்பனையும், அவள் தாயையும், சகோதரர்களையும், அவளுக்குள்ள யாவையும் அவள் குடும்பத்தார் அனைவரையும் வெளியே அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவந்து, அவர்களை இஸ்ரவேல் பாளயத்துக்குப் புறம்பே இருக்கும்படி பண்ணினார்கள்.

23. And the young men that were spies went in and brought out Rahab, and her father, and mother, and all the brethren and all that she had. And they brought out all her household and put them without the host of Israel.

24. பட்டணத்தையும் அதிலுள்ள யாவையும் அக்கினியால் சுட்டெரித்தார்கள்; வெள்ளியையும், பொன்னையும், வெண்கலத்தினாலும், இரும்பினாலும் செய்த பாத்திரங்களையும் மாத்திரம் கர்த்தரின் ஆலயப்பொக்கிஷத்தில் சேர்த்தார்கள்.

24. And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein. Onely the silver, the gold, and the things of brass and iron they put unto the treasure of the house of the LORD.

25. எரிகோவை வேவுபார்க்க யோசுவா அனுப்பின ஆட்களை ராகாப் என்னும் வேசி மறைத்துவைத்தபடியினால், அவளையும் அவள் தகப்பன் வீட்டாரையும் அவளுக்குள்ள யாவையும் யோசுவா உயிரோடே வைத்தான்; அவள் இந்நாள் வரைக்கும் இஸ்ரவேலின் நடுவிலே குடியிருக்கிறாள்.

25. And Josua saved Rahab the harlot, and her father's household and all that pertained unto her, and she dwelt in Israel, even unto this day, because she hid the messengers which Josua sent to spy out Jericho.

26. அக்காலத்திலே யோசுவா: இந்த எரிகோ பட்டணத்தைக் கட்டும்படி எழும்பும் மனுஷன் கர்த்தருக்கு முன்பாகச் சபிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கக்கடவன்; அவன் அதின் அஸ்திபாரத்தைப் போடுகிறபோது தன் மூத்த குமாரனையும், அதின் வாசல்களை வைக்கிறபோது தன் இளைய குமாரனையும் சாகக் கொடுக்கக்கடவன் என்று சாபம் கூறினான்.

26. And Josua cursed at that time, saying, cursed be the man before the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: so that he lay the foundation with the death of his eldest son, and with the death of his youngest set up the gates.

27. இவ்விதமாய்க் கர்த்தர் யோசுவாவோடேகூட இருந்தார்; அவன் கீர்த்தி தேசமெங்கும் பரம்பிற்று.

27. And the LORD was with Josua, and his fame was heard, thorowout all lands.
