1. எரிகோ இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்கு முன்பாக அடைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது; ஒருவரும் வெளியே போகவுமில்லை, ஒருவரும் உள்ளே வரவுமில்லை.

1. Now, Jericho, was shut up and barred because of the sons of Israel, none came out and none went in.

2. கர்த்தர் யோசுவாவை நோக்கி: இதோ, எரிகோவையும் அதின் ராஜாவையும், யுத்தவீரரையும் உன் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தேன்.

2. Then said Yahweh unto Joshua, See, I have delivered, into thy hand, Jericho and her king, the mighty men of valour.

3. யுத்தபுருஷராகிய நீங்கள் அனைவரும் பட்டணத்தைச் சூழ்ந்து ஒருதரம் சுற்றி வாருங்கள்; இப்படி ஆறுநாள் செய்யக்கடவீர்கள்.

3. So then ye shall compass the city all ye men of war, going round the city, once, thus, shall thou do six days.

4. ஏழு ஆசாரியர் பெட்டிக்கு முன்பாக ஏழு கொம்பு எக்காளங்களைப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டு போகவேண்டும்; ஏழாம்நாளில் பட்டணத்தை ஏழுதரம் சுற்றிவரக்கடவர்கள்; ஆசாரியர் எக்காளங்களை ஊதவேண்டும்.

4. And, seven priests, shall bear the seven rams' horns before the ark, and, on the seventh day, shall ye compass the city seven times, and, the priests, shall blow with the horns.

5. அவர்கள் அந்தக் கொம்புகளினால் நெடுந்தொனி இடும்போதும், நீங்கள் எக்காள சத்தத்தைக் கேட்கும்போதும், ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் மகா ஆரவாரத்தோடே ஆர்ப்பரிக்கக்கடவர்கள்; அப்பொழுது பட்டணத்தின் அலங்கம் இடிந்துவிழும்; உடனே ஜனங்கள் அவரவர் தங்களுக்கு நேராக ஏறக்கடவர்கள் என்றார்.

5. And it shall come to pass, when the ram's horn soundeth, when ye hear the sound of the horn, that all the people shall shout with a great shout, and then shall the wall of the city fall down under it, and the people shall go up, every man straight before him.

6. அந்தப்படியே நூனின் குமாரனாகிய யோசுவா ஆசாரியரை அழைத்து: உடன்படிக்கைப் பெட்டியை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு போங்கள்; தொனிக்கும் ஏழு எக்காளங்களையும் ஏழு ஆசாரியர்கள் கர்த்தருடைய பெட்டிக்கு முன்பாகப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டு போகக்கடவர்கள் என்று சொல்லி;

6. Then called Joshua son of Nun unto the priests, and said unto them, Bear ye the ark of the covenant, and let, seven priest, bear seven rams horns, before the ark of Yahweh.

7. ஜனங்களை நோக்கி: பட்டணத்தைச் சுற்றி நடந்துபோங்கள்; யுத்தசன்னத்தரானவர்கள் கர்த்தரின் பெட்டிக்குமுன் நடக்கக்கடவர்கள் என்றான்.

7. Then said he unto the people, Pass on and compass the city, and let, the armed host, pass on before the ark of Yahweh.

8. யோசுவா ஜனங்களிடத்தில் பேசினவுடனே, தொனிக்கும் ஏழு எக்காளங்களைப் பிடித்திருக்கிற ஏழு ஆசாரியர் கர்த்தருக்கு முன்பாக நடந்து எக்காளங்களை ஊதினார்கள்; கர்த்தருடைய உடன்படிக்கைப்பெட்டி அவர்களுக்குப் பின் சென்றது.

8. And it was so, when Joshua had spoken unto the people, that, the seven priests who were bearing the seven rams' horns before Yahweh, passed on and blew with the horns, the ark of the covenant of Yahweh also coming after them.

9. எக்காளங்களை ஊதுகிற ஆசாரியருக்குமுன் யுத்தசன்னத்தரானவர்கள் நடந்தார்கள்; பின்தண்டு எக்காளங்கள் ஊதப்படும்போது பெட்டிக்குப் பின் சென்றது.

9. And, the armed host, went on before the priests who blew with the horns, and, the rear-guard, came after the ark, going on and blowing with the horns.

10. யோசுவா ஜனங்களை நோக்கி: நான் சொல்லும் நாள்மட்டும், நீங்கள் ஆர்ப்பரியாமலும் உங்கள் வாயினால் சத்தங்காட்டாமலும் இருங்கள்; உங்கள் வாயிலிருந்து ஒரு பேச்சும் புறப்படவேண்டாம்; ஆர்ப்பரியுங்கள் என்று உங்களுக்கு நான் சொல்லும் நாளிலே ஆர்ப்பரிப்பீர்களாக என்று கட்டளையிட்டிருந்தான்.

10. Now, unto the people, had Joshua given command, saying Ye shall not shout nor let your voice be heard, neither shall there go out of your mouth, a word, until the day when I say unto you Shout! then shall ye shout.

11. அப்படியே கர்த்தரின் பெட்டியைப் பட்டணத்தைச் சூழ்ந்து ஒருதரம் சுற்றிவரப்பண்ணினான்; அவர்கள் திரும்பப் பாளயத்திலே வந்து, பாளயத்தில் இராத்தங்கினார்கள்.

11. So he caused the ark of Yahweh to compass the city, going round once, and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.

12. யோசுவா அதிகாலமே எழுந்திருந்தான்; ஆசாரியர்கள் கர்த்தரின் பெட்டியைச் சுமந்துகொண்டு போனார்கள்.

12. And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests bare the ark of Yahweh;

13. தொனிக்கும் ஏழு எக்காளங்களைப் பிடிக்கிற ஏழு ஆசாரியர்களும் எக்காளங்களை ஊதிக்கொண்டே கர்த்தரின் பெட்டிக்கு முன்பாக நடந்தார்கள்; யுத்தசன்னத்தரானவர்கள் அவர்களுக்கு முன்னாலே நடந்தார்கள்; பின்தண்டோவெனில் எக்காளங்கள் ஊதப்படுகையில், கர்த்தரின் பெட்டிக்குப் பின்சென்றது.

13. and, the seven priests who bare the seven rams' horns before the ark of Yahweh, went on and on, and blew with the horns, with, the armed host going on before them, and, the rear-guard, coming after the ark of Yahweh, going on and blowing with the horns.

14. இரண்டாம் நாளிலும் பட்டணத்தை ஒருதரம் சுற்றிவந்து, பாளயத்துக்குத் திரும்பினார்கள்; இந்தப்படி ஆறுநாளும் செய்தார்கள்.

14. So they compassed the city on the second day once, and returned into the camp, thus, did they, six days.

15. ஏழாம் நாளில், அதிகாலமே கிழக்கு வெளுக்கும்போது எழுந்திருந்து அந்தப் பிரகாரமே பட்டணத்தை ஏழுதரம் சுற்றிவந்தார்கள்; அன்றையத்தினத்தில் மாத்திரம் பட்டணத்தை ஏழுதரம் சுற்றிவந்தார்கள்.

15. And it came to pass, on the seventh day, that they rose early at the uprisings of the dawn, and compassed the city after this manner, seven times, only on that day they compassed the city seven times.

16. ஏழாந்தரம் ஆசாரியர் எக்காளங்களை ஊதுகையில், யோசுவா ஜனங்களை நோக்கி: ஆர்ப்பரியுங்கள், பட்டணத்தைக் கர்த்தர் உங்களுக்கு ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்.

16. And it came to pass, at the seventh time when the priests blew with the horns, then did Joshua say unto the people Shout, for Yahweh hath delivered unto you the city.

17. ஆனாலும் இந்தப் பட்டணமும் இதிலுள்ள யாவும் கர்த்தருக்குச் சாபத்தீடாயிருக்கும்; நாம் அனுப்பின ஆட்களை ராகாப் என்னும் வேசி மறைத்துவைத்தபடியால், அவளும் அவளோடே வீட்டுக்குள் இருக்கிற அனைவரும் மாத்திரம் உயிரோடிருக்கக்கடவர்கள்.

17. And it shall be, that, as for the city, devoted, shall it be and all that is therein unto Yahweh, nevertheless, Rahab the harlot, shall live, she and all who are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers whom we sent.

18. சாபத்தீடானதில் ஏதாகிலும் எடுத்துக்கொள்ளுகிறதினாலே, நீங்கள் சாபத்தீடாகாதபடிக்கும், இஸ்ரவேல் பாளயத்தைச் சாபத்தீடாக்கி அதைக் கலங்கப்பண்ணாதபடிக்கும், நீங்கள் சாபத்தீடானதற்கு மாத்திரம் எச்சரிக்கையாயிருங்கள்.

18. But, in any wise, do, ye, beware of what is devoted, lest ye should covet, and then take of what is devoted, and so cause the camp of Israel to be devoted, and bring trouble upon it.

19. சகல வெள்ளியும், பொன்னும், வெண்கலத்தினாலும் இரும்பினாலும் செய்யப்பட்ட பாத்திரங்களும், கர்த்தருக்குப் பரிசுத்தமானவைகள்; அவைகள் கர்த்தரின் பொக்கிஷத்தில் சேரும் என்றான்.

19. But, as for all silver and gold and vessels of bronze and iron, hallowed, it is to Yahweh, unto the treasury of Yahweh, shall it come.

20. எக்காளங்களை ஊதுகையில், ஜனங்கள் ஆர்ப்பரித்தார்கள்; எக்காள சத்தத்தை ஜனங்கள் கேட்டு, மகா ஆரவாரத்தோடே முழங்குகையில், அலங்கம் இடிந்து விழுந்தது; உடனே ஜனங்கள் அவரவர் தங்களுக்கு நேராகப் பட்டணத்தில் ஏறி, பட்டணத்தைப் பிடித்து,

20. So the people shouted, when the horns were blown, yea it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the horn, that the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down under it, and the people went up into the city every man straight before him, and so they captured the city.

21. பட்டணத்திலிருந்த புருஷரையும் ஸ்திரீகளையும் வாலிபரையும் கிழவரையும் ஆடுமாடுகளையும் கழுதைகளையும் சகலத்தையும் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் சங்காரம்பண்ணினார்கள்.

21. And they devoted all that were in the city, both man and woman, both young and old, and ox and sheep and ass, with the edge of the sword.

22. யோசுவா, தேசத்தை வேவுபார்த்த இரண்டு புருஷரை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் அந்த வேசியின் வீட்டிலே போய், நீங்கள் அவளுக்கு ஆணையிட்டபடி அந்த ஸ்திரீயையும் அவளுக்கு உண்டான யாவையும் அங்கேயிருந்து வெளியே கொண்டுவாருங்கள் என்றான்.

22. But, unto the two men who spied out the land, Joshua said, Go into the house of the woman, the harlot, and bring out thence the woman and all that she hath, as ye aware unto her.

23. அப்பொழுது வேவுகாரரான அந்த வாலிபர் உள்ளே போய், ராகாபையும் அவள் தகப்பனையும், அவள் தாயையும், சகோதரர்களையும், அவளுக்குள்ள யாவையும் அவள் குடும்பத்தார் அனைவரையும் வெளியே அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவந்து, அவர்களை இஸ்ரவேல் பாளயத்துக்குப் புறம்பே இருக்கும்படி பண்ணினார்கள்.

23. So the young men the spies went in and brought out Rahab and her father and her mother and her brethren and all that she had, yea, all her kindred, brought they out, and set them outside the camp of Israel.

24. பட்டணத்தையும் அதிலுள்ள யாவையும் அக்கினியால் சுட்டெரித்தார்கள்; வெள்ளியையும், பொன்னையும், வெண்கலத்தினாலும், இரும்பினாலும் செய்த பாத்திரங்களையும் மாத்திரம் கர்த்தரின் ஆலயப்பொக்கிஷத்தில் சேர்த்தார்கள்.

24. But, the city, burned they with fire, and all that was therein, save only, the silver and the gold and the vessels of bronze and of iron, put they into the treasury of the house of Yahweh.

25. எரிகோவை வேவுபார்க்க யோசுவா அனுப்பின ஆட்களை ராகாப் என்னும் வேசி மறைத்துவைத்தபடியினால், அவளையும் அவள் தகப்பன் வீட்டாரையும் அவளுக்குள்ள யாவையும் யோசுவா உயிரோடே வைத்தான்; அவள் இந்நாள் வரைக்கும் இஸ்ரவேலின் நடுவிலே குடியிருக்கிறாள்.

25. And, Rahab the harlot and the household of her father and all that she had, did Joshua save alive, so she hath dwelt in the midst of Israel until this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

26. அக்காலத்திலே யோசுவா: இந்த எரிகோ பட்டணத்தைக் கட்டும்படி எழும்பும் மனுஷன் கர்த்தருக்கு முன்பாகச் சபிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கக்கடவன்; அவன் அதின் அஸ்திபாரத்தைப் போடுகிறபோது தன் மூத்த குமாரனையும், அதின் வாசல்களை வைக்கிறபோது தன் இளைய குமாரனையும் சாகக் கொடுக்கக்கடவன் என்று சாபம் கூறினான்.

26. And Joshua imposed an oath at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before Yahweh who shall raise up and build this city Jericho, At the price of his firstborn, shall he lay its foundation, and, at the price of his youngest, shall he set up its doors.

27. இவ்விதமாய்க் கர்த்தர் யோசுவாவோடேகூட இருந்தார்; அவன் கீர்த்தி தேசமெங்கும் பரம்பிற்று.

27. And so it was that Yahweh was with Joshua, and his fame was in all the land.
