1. யோசேப்பின் குமாரனாகிய மனாசேயின் குடும்பங்களில், மனாசேயின் குமாரனாகிய மாகீரின் மகனான கிலெயாத்துக்குப் பிறந்த ஏபேருக்குப் புத்திரனாயிருந்த செலோப்பியாத்தின் குமாரத்திகளாகிய மக்லாள், நோவாள், ஒக்லாள், மில்காள், திர்சாள் என்பவர்கள் வந்து,

1. Zelophehad, son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, son of Joseph, had daughters named Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah. They came forward,

2. ஆசரிப்புக் கூடாரவாசலிலே மோசேக்கும், ஆசாரியனாகிய எலெயாசாருக்கும், பிரபுக்களுக்கும், சபையனைத்திற்கும் முன்பாக நின்று:

2. and standing in the presence of Moses, the priest Eleazar, the princes, and the whole community at the entrance of the meeting tent, said:

3. எங்கள் தகப்பன் வனாந்தரத்தில் மரணமடைந்தார்; அவர் கர்த்தருக்கு விரோதமாகக் கூடின கோராகின் கூட்டத்தாரில் சேர்ந்தவர் அல்ல, தம்முடைய பாவத்தினாலே மரித்தார்; அவருக்குக் குமாரர் இல்லை.

3. 'Our father died in the desert. Although he did not join those who banded together against the LORD (in Korah's band), he died for his own sin without leaving any sons.

4. But why should our father's name be withdrawn from his clan merely because he had no son? Let us, therefore, have property among our father's kinsmen.'

5. When Moses laid their case before the LORD,

6. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி:

6. the LORD said to him,

7. செலோபியாத்தின் குமாரத்திகள் சொல்லுகிறது சரிதான்; அவர்களுக்கு அவர்கள் தகப்பனுடைய சகோதரருக்குள்ளே சுதந்தரம் கொடுக்கவேண்டும்; அவர்கள் தகப்பன் பின்வைத்த சுதந்தரத்தை அவர்களுக்குக் கிடைக்கும்படி செய்வாயாக.

7. 'The plea of Zelophehad's daughters is just; you shall give them hereditary property among their father's kinsmen, letting their father's heritage pass on to them.

8. மேலும் நீ இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரை நோக்கி: ஒருவன் குமாரன் இல்லாமல் மரித்தால், அவனுக்குரிய சுதந்தரத்தை அவன் குமாரத்திக்குக் கொடுக்கவேண்டும்.

8. Therefore, tell the Israelites: If a man dies without leaving a son, you shall let his heritage pass on to his daughter;

9. அவனுக்குக் குமாரத்தியும் இல்லாதிருந்தால், அவனுக்குரிய சுதந்தரத்தை அவன் சகோதரருக்குக் கொடுக்கவேண்டும்.

9. if he has no daughter, you shall give his heritage to his brothers;

10. if he has no brothers, you shall give his heritage to his father's brothers;

11. if his father had no brothers, you shall give his heritage to his nearest relative in his clan, who shall then take possession of it.' This is the legal norm for the Israelites, as the LORD commanded Moses.

12. பின்பு கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி: நீ இந்த அபாரீம் மலையில் ஏறி, நான் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்குக் கொடுத்த தேசத்தைப் பார்.

12. The LORD said to Moses, 'Go up here into the Abarim Mountains and view the land that I am giving to the Israelites.

13. நீ அதைப் பார்த்தபின்பு, உன் சகோதரனாகிய ஆரோன் சேர்க்கப்பட்டது போல, நீயும் உன் ஜனத்தாரிடத்தில் சேர்க்கப்படுவாய்;

13. When you have viewed it, you too shall be taken to your people, as was your brother Aaron,

14. சபையார் வாக்குவாதம்பண்ணின சீன் வனாந்தரத்தில் தண்ணீருக்கடுத்த விஷயத்தில் அவர்கள் கண்களுக்கு முன்பாக என்னைப் பரிசுத்தம்பண்ணவேண்டிய நீங்கள் என் கட்டளையை மீறினீர்களே என்றார். இது சீன் வனாந்தரத்தில் காதேஸ் ஊர் அருகே உண்டான மேரிபாவின் தண்ணீருக்கடுத்த காரியமே.

14. because in the rebellion of the community in the desert of Zin you both rebelled against my order to manifest my sanctity to them by means of the water.' (This is the water of Meribah of Kadesh in the desert of Zin.)

16. கர்த்தருடைய சபை மேய்ப்பன் இல்லாத மந்தையைப்போல் இராதபடிக்கு,

16. 'May the LORD, the God of the spirits of all mankind, set over the community a man

17. அந்தச் சபைக்கு முன்பாகப் போக்கும் வரத்துமாய் இருக்கும்படிக்கும், அவர்களைப் போகவும் வரவும் பண்ணும்படிக்கும், மாம்சமான யாவருடைய ஆவிகளுக்கும் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் ஒரு புருஷனை அவர்கள்மேல் அதிகாரியாக ஏற்படுத்தவேண்டும் என்றான்.

17. who shall act as their leader in all things, to guide them in all their actions; that the LORD'S community may not be like sheep without a shepherd.'

18. கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி: ஆவியைப் பெற்றிருக்கிற புருஷனாகிய யோசுவா என்னும் நூனின் குமாரனை நீ தெரிந்துகொண்டு, அவன்மேல் உன் கையை வைத்து,

18. And the LORD replied to Moses, 'Take Joshua, son of Nun, a man of spirit, and lay your hand upon him.

19. அவனை ஆசாரியனாகிய எலெயாசாருக்கும் சபையனைத்திற்கும் முன்பாக நிறுத்தி, அவர்கள் கண்களுக்கு முன்பாக அவனுக்குக் கட்டளைகொடுத்து,

19. Have him stand in the presence of the priest Eleazar and of the whole community, and commission him before their eyes.

20. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரராகிய சபையார் எல்லாரும் அவனுக்குக் கீழ்ப்படியும்படிக்கு, உன் கனத்தில் கொஞ்சம் அவனுக்குக் கொடு.

20. Invest him with some of your own dignity, that the whole Israelite community may obey him.

21. அவன் ஆசாரியனாகிய எலெயாசாருக்கு முன்பாக நிற்கக்கடவன்; அவனிமித்தம் அந்த ஆசாரியன் கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதானத்தில் வந்து, ஊரீம் என்னும் நியாயத்தினாலே ஆலோசனை கேட்கக்கடவன்; அவருடைய கட்டளையின்படியே, அவனும் அவனோடேகூட இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரராகிய சபையார் எல்லாரும் போகவும் அவருடைய கட்டளையின்படியே வரவும் வேண்டியது என்றார்.

21. He shall present himself to the priest Eleazar, to have him seek out for him the decisions of the Urim in the LORD'S presence; and as he directs, Joshua, all the Israelites with him, and the community as a whole shall perform all their actions.'

22. மோசே தனக்குக் கர்த்தர் கட்டளையிட்டபடியே யோசுவாவை அழைத்துக்கொண்டுபோய், அவனை ஆசாரியனாகிய எலெயாசாருக்கும் சபையனைத்திற்கும் முன்பாக நிறுத்தி,

22. Moses did as the LORD had commanded him. Taking Joshua and having him stand in the presence of the priest Eleazar and of the whole community,

23. அவன்மேல் தன் கைகளை வைத்து, கர்த்தர் தனக்குச் சொன்னபடியே அவனுக்குக் கட்டளைகொடுத்தான்.

23. he laid his hands on him and gave him his commission, as the LORD had directed through Moses.
