2. When King Balak of Moab and his people heard how many Israelites there were and what they had done to the Amorites, he and the Moabites were terrified and panicked.

4. They said to the Midianite leaders, 'That bunch of Israelites will wipe out everything in sight, like a bull eating grass in a field.' So King Balak

5. sent a message to Balaam son of Beor who lived among his relatives in the town of Pethor near the Euphrates River. It said: I need your help. A huge group of people has come here from Egypt and settled near my territory.

6. They are too powerful for us to defeat, so would you come and place a curse on them? Maybe then we can run them off. I know that anyone you bless will be successful, but anyone you curse will fail.

7. The leaders of Moab and Midian left and took along money to pay Balaam for his work. When they got to his house, they gave him Balak's message.

8. Spend the night here,' Balaam replied, 'and tomorrow I will tell you the LORD's answer.' So the officials stayed at his house.

9. During the night, God asked Balaam, 'Who are these people at your house?'

10. They are messengers from King Balak of Moab,' Balaam answered. 'He sent them

11. பூமியின் விசாலத்தை மூடுகிற ஒரு ஜனக்கூட்டம் எகிப்திலிருந்து வந்திருக்கிறது; ஆகையால், நீ வந்து எனக்காக அவர்களைச் சபிக்கவேண்டும்; அப்பொழுது நான் அவர்களோடே யுத்தம்பண்ணி, ஒருவேளை அவர்களைத் துரத்திவிடலாம் என்று சொல்லச்சொன்னான் என்றான்.

11. to ask me to go to Moab and place a curse on the people who have come there from Egypt. They have settled everywhere around him, and he wants to run them off.'

12. அதற்குத் தேவன் பிலேயாமை நோக்கி: நீ அவர்களோடே போகவேண்டாம்; அந்த ஜனங்களைச் சபிக்கவும் வேண்டாம்; அவர்கள் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்பட்டவர்கள் என்றார்.

12. But God replied, 'Don't go with Balak's messengers. I have blessed those people who have come from Egypt, so don't curse them.'

13. பிலேயாம் காலமே எழுந்து, பாலாகின் பிரபுக்களை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் உங்கள் தேசத்துக்குப் போய்விடுங்கள்; நான் உங்களோடேகூட வருகிறதற்குக் கர்த்தர் எனக்கு உத்தரவு கொடுக்கமாட்டோம் என்கிறார் என்று சொன்னான்.

13. The next morning, Balaam said to Balak's officials, 'Go on back home. The LORD says I cannot go with you.'

14. அப்படியே மோவாபியருடைய பிரபுக்கள் எழுந்து, பாலாகினிடத்தில் போய்: பிலேயாம் எங்களோடே வரமாட்டேன் என்று சொன்னான் என்றார்கள்.

14. The officials left and told Balak that Balaam refused to come.

15. பாலாக் மறுபடியும் அவர்களிலும் கனவான்களான அதிக பிரபுக்களை அனுப்பினான்.

15. Then Balak sent a larger group of officials, who were even more important than the first ones.

16. அவர்கள் பிலேயாமிடத்தில் போய், அவனை நோக்கி: சிப்போரின் குமாரனாகிய பாலாக் எங்களை அனுப்பி: நீர் என்னிடத்தில் வருவதற்குத் தடைபடவேண்டாம்;

16. They went to Balaam and told him that Balak had said, 'Balaam, if you come to Moab,

17. உம்மை மிகவும் கனம்பண்ணுவேன்; நீர் சொல்வதையெல்லாம் செய்வேன்; நீர் வந்து எனக்காக அந்த ஜனங்களைச் சபிக்கவேண்டும் என்று சொல்லச்சொன்னார் என்றார்கள்.

17. I'll pay you very well and do whatever you ask. Just come and place a curse on these people.'

18. பிலேயாம் பாலாகின் ஊழியக்காரருக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: பாலாக் எனக்குத் தன் வீடு நிறைய வெள்ளியும் பொன்னும் தந்தாலும், சிறிய காரியமானாலும் பெரிய காரியமானாலும் செய்யும் பொருட்டு, என் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரின் கட்டளையை நான் மீறக்கூடாது.

18. Balaam answered, 'Even if Balak offered me a palace full of silver or gold, I wouldn't do anything to disobey the LORD my God.

19. ஆகிலும், கர்த்தர் இனிமேல் எனக்கு என்ன சொல்லுவார் என்பதை நான் அறியும்படிக்கு, நீங்களும் இந்த இராத்திரி இங்கே தங்கியிருங்கள் என்றான்.

19. You are welcome to spend the night here, just as the others did. I will find out if the LORD has something else to say about this.'

20. இரவிலே தேவன் பிலேயாமிடத்தில் வந்து; அந்த மனிதர் உன்னைக் கூப்பிட வந்திருந்தால், நீ எழுந்து அவர்களோடே கூடப்போ; ஆனாலும், நான் உனக்குச் சொல்லும் வார்த்தையின்படிமாத்திரம் நீ செய்யவேண்டும் என்றார்.

20. That night, God said, 'Balaam, I'll let you go to Moab with Balak's messengers, but do only what I say.'

21. பிலேயாம் காலமே எழுந்து, தன் கழுதையின்மேல் சேணங்கட்டி மோவாபின் பிரபுக்களோடே கூடப் போனான்.

21. So Balaam got up the next morning and saddled his donkey, then left with the Moabite officials.

22. அவன் போகிறதினாலே தேவனுக்குக் கோபம் மூண்டது; கர்த்தருடைய தூதனானவர் வழியிலே அவனுக்கு எதிராளியாக நின்றார். அவன் தன் கழுதையின்மேல் ஏறிப்போனான்; அவன் வேலைக்காரர் இரண்டுபேரும் அவனோடே இருந்தார்கள்.

22. Balaam was riding his donkey to Moab, and two of his servants were with him. But God was angry that Balaam had gone, so one of the LORD's angels stood in the road to stop him.

23. கர்த்தருடைய தூதனானவர் உருவின பட்டயத்தைத் தம்முடைய கையிலே பிடித்துக்கொண்டு வழியிலே நிற்கிறதைக் கழுதை கண்டு, வழியை விட்டு வயலிலே விலகிப்போயிற்று; கழுதையை வழியில் திருப்ப பிலேயாம் அதை அடித்தான்.

23. When Balaam's donkey saw the angel standing there with a sword, it walked off the road and into an open field. Balaam had to beat the donkey to get it back on the road.

24. கர்த்தருடைய தூதனானவர் இருபுறத்திலும் சுவர் வைத்திருந்த திராட்சத் தோட்டங்களின் பாதையிலே போய் நின்றார்.

24. Then the angel stood between two vineyards, in a narrow path with a stone wall on each side.

25. கழுதை கர்த்தருடைய தூதனைக்கண்டு, சுவர் ஒரமாய் ஒதுங்கி, பிலேயாமின் காலைச் சுவரோடே நெருக்கிற்று; திரும்பவும் அதை அடித்தான்.

25. When the donkey saw the angel, it walked so close to one of the walls that Balaam's foot scraped against the wall. Balaam beat the donkey again.

26. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தருடைய தூதன் அப்புறம் போய், வலதுபுறம் இடதுபுறம் விலக வழியில்லாத இடுக்கமான இடத்திலே நின்றார்.

26. The angel moved once more and stood in a spot so narrow that there was no room for the donkey to go around.

27. கழுதை கர்த்தருடைய தூதனைக்கண்டு, பிலேயாமின் கீழ்ப் படுத்துக்கொண்டது; பிலேயாம் கோபம் மூண்டவனாகி, கழுதையைத் தடியினால் அடித்தான்.

27. So it just lay down. Balaam lost his temper, then picked up a stick and smacked the donkey.

28. உடனே கர்த்தர் கழுதையின் வாயைத் திறந்தார்; அது பிலேயாமைப் பார்த்து: நீர் என்னை இப்பொழுது மூன்று தரம் அடிக்கும்படி நான் உமக்கு என்ன செய்தேன் என்றது.

28. When that happened, the LORD told the donkey to speak, and it asked Balaam, 'What have I done to you that made you beat me three times?'

29. அப்பொழுது பிலேயாம் கழுதையைப் பார்த்து: நீ என்னைப் பரியாசம் பண்ணிக்கொண்டு வருகிறாய்; என் கையில் ஒரு பட்டயம்மாத்திரம் இருந்தால், இப்பொழுதே உன்னைக் கொன்றுபோடுவேன் என்றான்.

29. You made me look stupid!' Balaam answered. 'If I had a sword, I'd kill you here and now!'

30. கழுதை பிலேயாமை நோக்கி: நீர் என்னைக் கைக்கொண்ட காலமுதல் இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் நீர் ஏறின கழுதை நான் அல்லவா? இப்படி உமக்கு எப்போதாகிலும் நான் செய்தது உண்டா என்றது. அதற்கு அவன்: இல்லை என்றான்.

30. But you're my owner,' replied the donkey, 'and you've ridden me many times. Have I ever done anything like this before?' 'No,' Balaam admitted.

31. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் பிலேயாமின் கண்களைத் திறந்தார்; வழியிலே நின்று உருவின பட்டயத்தைத் தம்முடைய கையிலே பிடித்திருக்கிற கர்த்தருடைய தூதனை அவன் கண்டு, தலைகுனிந்து முகங்குப்புற விழுந்து பணிந்தான்.

31. Just then, the LORD let Balaam see the angel standing in the road, holding a sword, and Balaam bowed down.

32. கர்த்தருடைய தூதனானவர் அவனை நோக்கி: நீ உன் கழுதையை இதனோடே மூன்றுதரம் அடித்ததென்ன? உன் வழி எனக்கு மாறுபாடாயிருக்கிறதினால், நான் உனக்கு எதிரியாகப் புறப்பட்டு வந்தேன்.

32. The angel said, 'You had no right to treat your donkey like that! I was the one who blocked your way, because I don't think you should go to Moab.

33. கழுதை என்னைக் கண்டு, இந்த மூன்றுதரம் எனக்கு விலகிற்று; எனக்கு விலகாமல் இருந்ததானால், இப்பொழுது நான் உன்னைக் கொன்றுபோட்டு, கழுதையை உயிரோடே வைப்பேன் என்றார்.

33. If your donkey had not seen me and stopped those three times, I would have killed you and let the donkey live.'

34. அப்பொழுது பிலேயாம் கர்த்தருடைய தூதனை நோக்கி: நான் பாவஞ்செய்தேன்; வழியிலே நீர் எனக்கு எதிராக நிற்கிறதை அறியாதிருந்தேன்; இப்பொழுதும் உமது பார்வைக்கு இது தகாததாயிருக்குமானால், நான் திரும்பிப்போய்விடுகிறேன் என்றான்.

34. Balaam replied, 'I was wrong. I didn't know you were trying to stop me. If you don't think I should go, I'll return home right now.'

35. கர்த்தருடைய தூதனானவர் பிலேயாமை நோக்கி: அந்த மனிதரோடேகூடப்போ; நான் உன்னோடே சொல்லும் வார்த்தையை மாத்திரம் நீ சொல்லக்கடவாய் என்றார்; அப்படியே பிலேயாம் பாலாகின் பிரபுக்களோடே கூடப்போனான்.

35. It's all right for you to go,' the LORD's angel answered. 'But you must say only what I tell you.' So Balaam went on with Balak's officials.

36. பிலேயாம் வருகிறதைப் பாலாக்கேட்டமாத்திரத்தில், கடைசி எல்லையான அர்னோன் நதியின் ஓரத்திலுள்ள மோவாபின் பட்டணமட்டும் அவனுக்கு எதிர்கொண்டு போனான்.

36. When Balak heard that Balaam was coming, he went to meet him at the town of Ir, which is on the northern border of Moab.

37. பாலாக் பிலேயாமை நோக்கி: உம்மை அழைக்கும்படி நான் ஆவலோடே உம்மிடத்தில் ஆள் அனுப்பவில்லையா? என்னிடத்திற்கு வராமல் இருந்ததென்ன? ஏற்றபிரகாரமாக உம்மை நான் கனம் பண்ணமாட்டேனா என்றான்.

37. Balak asked, 'Why didn't you come when I invited you the first time? Did you think I wasn't going to pay you?'

38. அப்பொழுது பிலேயாம் பாலாகை நோக்கி: இதோ, உம்மிடத்திற்கு வந்தேன்; ஆனாலும், ஏதாகிலும் சொல்லுகிறதற்கு என்னாலே ஆகுமோ? தேவன் என் வாயிலே அளிக்கும் வார்த்தையையே சொல்லுவேன் என்றான்.

38. I'm here now,' Balaam answered. 'But I will say only what God tells me to say.'

39. பிலேயாம் பாலாகுடனே கூடப்போனான்; அவர்கள் கீரியாத் ஊசோத்தில் சேர்ந்தார்கள்.

39. They left and went to the town of Kiriath-Huzoth,

40. அங்கே பாலாக் ஆடுமாடுகளை அடித்து, பிலேயாமுக்கும் அவனோடிருந்த பிரபுக்களுக்கும் அனுப்பினான்.

40. where Balak sacrificed cattle and sheep and gave some of the meat to Balaam and the officials who were with him.

41. மறுநாள் காலமே பாலாக் பிலேயாமைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, அவனைப் பாகாலுடைய மேடுகளில் ஏறப்பண்ணினான்; அவ்விடத்திலிருந்து பிலேயாம் ஜனத்தின் கடைசிப் பாளயத்தைப் பார்த்தான்.

41. The next morning, Balak took Balaam to the town of Bamoth-Baal. From there, Balaam could see some of the Israelites.
