1. அப்பொழுது சபையார் எல்லாரும் கூக்குரலிட்டுப் புலம்பினார்கள்; ஜனங்கள் அன்று இராமுழுதும் அழுதுகொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

1. Then all the people gave load cries of grief, and all that night they gave themselves up to weeping.

2. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் எல்லாரும் மோசேக்கும் ஆரோனுக்கும் விரோதமாக முறுமுறுத்தார்கள். சபையார் எல்லாரும் அவர்களை நோக்கி: எகிப்துதேசத்திலே செத்துப்போனோமானால் நலமாயிருக்கும்; இந்த வனாந்தரத்திலே நாங்கள் செத்தாலும் நலம்.

2. And all the children of Israel, crying out against Moses and Aaron, said, If only we had come to our death in the land of Egypt, or even in this waste land!

3. நாங்கள் பட்டயத்தால் மடியும்படிக்கும், எங்கள் பெண்ஜாதிகளும் பிள்ளைகளும் கொள்ளையாகும்படிக்கும், கர்த்தர் எங்களை இந்த தேசத்துக்குக் கொண்டு வந்தது என்ன? எகிப்துக்குத் திரும்பிப் போகிறதே எங்களுக்கு உத்தமம் அல்லவோ என்றார்கள்.

3. Why is the Lord taking us into this land to come to our death by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will get into strange hands: would it not be better for us to go back to Egypt?

5. Then Moses and Aaron went down on their faces before the meeting of the people.

6. And Joshua, the son of Nun, and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, two of those who had been to see the land, giving signs of grief,

7. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரின் சமஸ்த சபையையும் நோக்கி: நாங்கள் போய்ச் சுற்றிப்பார்த்து சோதித்த தேசம் மகா நல்ல தேசம்.

7. Said to all the children of Israel, This land which we went through to see is a very good land.

8. கர்த்தர் நம்மேல் பிரியமாயிருந்தால், அந்தத் தேசத்திலே நம்மைக் கொண்டுபோய், பாலும் தேனும் ஓடுகிற அந்தத் தேசத்தை நமக்குக் கொடுப்பார்.

8. And if the Lord has delight in us, he will take us into this land and give it to us, a land flowing with milk and honey.

9. கர்த்தருக்கு விரோதமாகமாத்திரம் கலகம்பண்ணாதிருங்கள்; அந்த தேசத்தின் ஜனங்களுக்கு நீங்கள் பயப்படவேண்டியதில்லை; அவர்கள் நமக்கு இரையாவார்கள்; அவர்களைக் காத்த நிழல் அவர்களை விட்டு விலகிப்போயிற்று; கர்த்தர் நம்மோடே இருக்கிறார்; அவர்களுக்குப் பயப்படவேண்டியதில்லை என்றார்கள்.

9. Only, do not go against the Lord or go in fear of the people of the land, for they will be our food; their strength has been taken from them and the Lord is with us: have no fear of them.

10. அப்பொழுது அவர்கள்மேல் கல்லெறியவேண்டும் என்று சபையார் எல்லாரும் சொன்னார்கள்; உடனே கர்த்தருடைய மகிமை ஆசரிப்புக்கூடாரத்தில் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் எல்லாருக்கும் முன்பாகக் காணப்பட்டது.

10. But all the people said they were to be stoned. Then the glory of the Lord was seen in the Tent of meeting, before the eyes of all the children of Israel.

11. கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி: எதுவரைக்கும் இந்த ஜனங்கள் எனக்குக் கோபம் உண்டாக்குவார்கள்? தங்களுக்குள்ளே நான் காட்டின சகல அடையாளங்களையும் அவர்கள் கண்டும், எதுவரைக்கும் என்னை விசுவாசியாதிருப்பார்கள்?

11. And the Lord said to Moses, How long will this people have no respect for me? how long will they be without faith, in the face of all the signs I have done among them?

12. நான் அவர்களைக் கொள்ளைநோயினால் வாதித்து, சுதந்தரத்துக்குப் பறம்பாக்கிப்போட்டு, அவர்களைப்பார்க்கிலும் உன்னைப் பெரிதும் பலத்ததுமான ஜாதியாக்குவேன் என்றார்.

12. I will send disease on them for their destruction, and take away their heritage, and I will make of you a nation greater and stronger than they.

13. மோசே கர்த்தரை நோக்கி: எகிப்தியர் இதைக் கேட்பார்கள், அவர்கள் நடுவிலிருந்து உம்முடைய வல்லமையினாலே இந்த ஜனங்களைக் கொண்டுவந்தீரே.

13. And Moses said to the Lord, Then it will come to the ears of the Egyptians; for by your power you took this people out from among them;

14. கர்த்தராகிய நீர் இந்த ஜனங்களின் நடுவே இருக்கிறதையும், கர்த்தராகிய நீர் முகமுகமாய்த் தரிசனமாகிறதையும், உம்முடைய மேகம் இவர்கள்மேல் நிற்கிறதையும், பகலில் மேகத்தூணிலும், இரவில் அக்கினித்தூணிலும், நீர் இவர்களுக்கு முன் செல்லுகிறதையும் கேட்டிருக்கிறார்கள்; இந்த தேசத்தின் குடிகளுக்கும் சொல்லுவார்கள்.

14. And they will give the news to the people of this land: they have had word that you, Lord, are present with this people, letting yourself be seen face to face, and that your cloud is resting over them, and that you go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night.

15. ஒரே மனிதனைக் கொல்லுகிறது போல இந்த ஜனங்களையெல்லாம் நீர் கொல்வீரானால், அப்பொழுது உம்முடைய கீர்த்தியைக் கேட்டிருக்கும் புறஜாதியார்:

15. Now if you put to death all this people as one man, then the nations who have had word of your glory will say,

16. கர்த்தர் அந்த ஜனங்களுக்குக் கொடுப்போம் என்று ஆணையிட்டிருந்த தேசத்திலே அவர்களைக் கொண்டுபோய்விடக்கூடாதே போனபடியினால், அவர்களை வனாந்தரத்திலே கொன்றுபோட்டார் என்பார்களே.

16. Because the Lord was not able to take this people into the land which he made an oath to give them, he sent destruction on them in the waste land.

17. ஆகையால் கர்த்தர் நீடிய சாந்தமும் மிகுந்த கிருபையுமுள்ளவர் என்றும், அக்கிரமத்தையும் மீறுதலையும் மன்னிக்கிறவர் என்றும், குற்றமுள்ளவர்களைக் குற்றமற்றவர்களாக விடாமல், பிதாக்கள் செய்த அக்கிரமத்தைப் பிள்ளைகளிடத்தில் மூன்றாம் நான்காம் தலைமுறைமட்டும் விசாரிக்கிறவர் என்றும், நீர் சொல்லியிருக்கிறபடியே,

17. So now, may my prayer come before you, and let the power of the Lord be great, as you said:

18. என் ஆண்டவருடைய வல்லமை பெரிதாய் விளங்குவதாக.

18. The Lord is slow to wrath and great in mercy, overlooking wrongdoing and evil, and will not let wrongdoers go free; sending punishment on children for the sins of their fathers, to the third and fourth generation.

19. உமது கிருபையினுடைய மகத்துவத்தின்படியேயும், எகிப்தை விட்டதுமுதல் இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் இந்த ஜனங்களுக்கு மன்னித்து வந்ததின்படியேயும், இந்த ஜனங்களின் அக்கிரமத்தை மன்னித்தருளும் என்றான்.

19. May the sin of this people have forgiveness, in the measure of your great mercy, as you have had mercy on them from Egypt up till now.

20. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர்: உன் வார்த்தையின்படியே மன்னித்தேன்.

20. And the Lord said, I have had mercy, as you say:

21. பூமியெல்லாம் கர்த்தருடைய மகிமையினால் நிறைந்திருக்கும் என்று என்னுடைய ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன்.

21. But truly, as I am living, and as all the earth will be full of the glory of the Lord;

22. என் மகிமையையும், நான் எகிப்திலும் வனாந்தரத்திலும் செய்த என் அடையாளங்களையும் கண்டிருந்தும், என் சத்தத்துக்குச் செவிகொடாமல், இதனோடே பத்துமுறை என்னைப் பரீட்சைபார்த்த மனிதரில் ஒருவரும்,

22. Because all these men, having seen my glory and the signs which I have done in Egypt and in the waste land, still have put me to the test ten times, and have not given ear to my voice;

23. அவர்கள் பிதாக்களுக்கு நான் ஆணையிட்டுக்கொடுத்த தேசத்தைக் காணமாட்டார்கள்; எனக்குக் கோபம் உண்டாக்கினவர்களில் ஒருவரும் அதைக் காணமாட்டார்கள்.

23. They will not see the land about which I made an oath to their fathers; not one of these by whom I have not been honoured will see it.

24. என்னுடைய தாசனாகிய காலேப் வேறே ஆவியை உடையவனாயிருக்கிறபடியினாலும், உத்தமமாய் என்னைப் பின்பற்றி வந்தபடியினாலும், அவன் போய் வந்த தேசத்திலே அவனைச் சேரப்பண்ணுவேன்; அவன் சந்ததியார் அதைச் சுதந்தரித்துக்கொள்ளுவார்கள்.

24. But my servant Caleb, because he had a different spirit in him, and has been true to me with all his heart, him I will take into that land into which he went, and his seed will have it for their heritage.

25. அமலேக்கியரும் கானானியரும் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே குடியிருக்கிறபடியினால், நாளைக்கு நீங்கள் திரும்பி சிவந்த சமுத்திரத்துக்குப் போகிற வழியாய் வனாந்தரத்துக்குப் பிரயாணம்பண்ணுங்கள் என்றார்.

25. Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites are in the valley; tomorrow, turning round, go into the waste land by the way to the Red Sea.

26. பின்னும் கர்த்தர் மோசேயையும் ஆரோனையும் நோக்கி:

26. Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron,

27. எனக்கு விரோதமாய் முறுமுறுக்கிற இந்தப் பொல்லாத சபையாரை எதுவரைக்கும் பொறுப்பேன்? இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் எனக்கு விரோதமாய் முறுமுறுக்கிறதைக் கேட்டேன்.

27. How long am I to put up with this evil people and their outcries against me? The words which they say against me have come to my ears.

28. நீ அவர்களோடே சொல்லவேண்டியது என்னவென்றால்: நீங்கள் என் செவிகள் கேட்கச் சொன்ன பிரகாரம் உங்களுக்குச் செய்வேன் என்பதை என் ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்று கர்த்தர் உரைக்கிறார்.

28. Say to them, By my life, says the Lord, as certainly as your words have come to my ears, so certainly will I do this to you:

29. இந்த வனாந்தரத்தில் உங்கள் பிரேதங்கள் விழும்; உங்களில் இருபது வயது முதல் அதற்கு மேற்பட்டவர்களாக எண்ணப்பட்டு, உங்கள் தொகைக்கு உட்பட்டவர்களும் எனக்கு விரோதமாய் முறுமுறுத்திருக்கிறவர்களுமாகிய அனைவரின் பிரேதங்களும் விழும்.

29. Your dead bodies will be stretched out in this waste land; and of all your number, all those of twenty years old and over who have been crying out against me,

30. எப்புன்னேயின் குமாரன் காலேபும், நூனின் குமாரன் யோசுவாவும் தவிர, மற்றவர்களாகிய நீங்கள் நான் உங்களைக் குடியேற்றுவேன் என்று ஆணையிட்டுக்கொடுத்த தேசத்தில் பிரவேசிப்பதில்லை.

30. Not one will come into the land which I gave my word you would have for your resting-place, but only Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua, the son of Nun.

31. கொள்ளையாவார்கள் என்று நீங்கள் சொன்ன உங்கள் குழந்தைகளையோ நான் அதில் பிரவேசிக்கச் செய்வேன்; நீங்கள் அசட்டைப்பண்ணின தேசத்தை அவர்கள் கண்டறிவார்கள்.

31. And your little ones, whom you said would come into strange hands, I will take in, and they will see the land which you would not have.

32. உங்கள் பிரேதங்களோ இந்த வனாந்தரத்திலே விழும்.

32. But as for you, your dead bodies will be stretched in this waste land.

33. அவைகள் வனாந்தரத்திலே விழுந்து தீருமட்டும், உங்கள் பிள்ளைகள் நாற்பது வருஷம் வனாந்தரத்திலே திரிந்து, நீங்கள் சோரம்போன பாதகத்தைச் சுமப்பார்கள்.

33. And your children will be wanderers in the waste land for forty years, undergoing punishment for your false ways, till your bodies become dust in the waste land.

34. நீங்கள் தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப்பார்த்த நாற்பதுநாள் இலக்கத்தின்படியே, ஒவ்வொரு நாள் ஒவ்வொரு வருஷமாக, நீங்கள் நாற்பது வருஷம் உங்கள் அக்கிரமங்களைச் சுமந்து, என் உடன்படிக்கைக்கு வந்த மாறுதலை உணருவீர்கள்.

34. And as you went through the land viewing it for forty days, so for forty years, a year for every day, you will undergo punishment for your wrongdoing, and you will see that I am against you.

35. கர்த்தராகிய நான் இதைச் சொன்னேன்; எனக்கு விரோதமாய்க் கூட்டங்கூடின இந்தப் பொல்லாத சபையார் யாவருக்கும் இப்படியே செய்வேன்; இந்த வனாந்தரத்திலே அழிவார்கள், இங்கே சாவார்கள் என்று சொல் என்றார்.

35. I the Lord have said it, and this I will certainly do to all this evil people who have come together against me: in this waste land destruction will come on them, and death will be their fate.

36. அந்தத் தேசத்தைச் சோதித்துப் பார்க்கும்படி மோசேயால் அனுப்பப்பட்டுத் திரும்பி, அந்தத் தேசத்தைக்குறித்துத் துர்ச்செய்தி கொண்டுவந்து,

36. And the men whom Moses sent to see the land, and who, by the bad account they gave of the land, were the cause of the outcry the people made against Moses,

37. சபையார் எல்லாரும் அவனுக்கு விரோதமாய் முறுமுறுக்கும்படி அந்தத் துர்ச்செய்தியைச் சொன்னவர்களாகிய அந்த மனிதர் கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் வாதையினால் செத்தார்கள்.

37. Those same men who said evil of the land, came to their death by disease before the Lord.

38. தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப் பார்க்கப்போன அந்த மனிதரில் நூனின் குமாரனாகிய யோசுவாவும், எப்புன்னேயின் குமாரனாகிய காலேபும் மாத்திரம் உயிரோடிருந்தார்கள்.

38. But Joshua, the son of Nun, and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, of those who went to see the land, were not touched by disease.

39. மோசே இந்த வார்த்தைகளை இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் அனைவரோடும் சொன்னபோது, ஜனங்கள் மிகவும் துக்கித்தார்கள்.

39. And when Moses put these words before the children of Israel, the people were full of grief.

40. அதிகாலமே அவர்கள் எழுந்திருந்து: நாங்கள் பாவஞ்செய்தோம், கர்த்தர் வாக்குத்தத்தம்பண்ணின இடத்துக்கு நாங்கள் போவோம் என்று சொல்லி மலையின் உச்சியில் ஏறத்துணிந்தார்கள்.

40. And early in the morning they got up and went to the top of the mountain, saying, We are here and we will go up to the place which the Lord said he would give us: for we have done wrong.

41. மோசே அவர்களை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் இப்படி கர்த்தரின் கட்டளையை மீறுகிறதென்ன? அது உங்களுக்கு வாய்க்காது.

41. And Moses said, Why are you now acting against the Lord's order, seeing that no good will come of it?

42. நீங்கள் உங்கள் சத்துருக்களுக்கு முன்பாக முறிய அடிக்கப்படாதபடிக்கு ஏறிப்போகாதிருங்கள்; கர்த்தர் உங்கள் நடுவில் இரார்.

42. Go not up, for the Lord is not with you, and you will be overcome by those who are fighting against you.

43. அமலேக்கியரும் கானானியரும் அங்கே உங்களுக்குமுன்னே இருக்கிறார்கள்; பட்டயத்தினால் விழுவீர்கள்; நீங்கள் கர்த்தரை விட்டுப் பின்வாங்கினபடியால், கர்த்தர் உங்களோடே இருக்கமாட்டார் என்றான்.

43. For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and you will be put to death by their swords: because you have gone back from the way of the Lord, the Lord will not be with you.

44. ஆனாலும் அவர்கள் மலையின் உச்சியில் ஏறத் துணிந்தார்கள்; கர்த்தருடைய உடன்படிக்கையின் பெட்டியும் மோசேயும் பாளயத்தை விட்டுப்போகவில்லை.

44. But they gave no attention to his words and went to the top of the mountain, though Moses and the ark of the Lord's agreement did not go out of the tent-circle.

45. அப்பொழுது அமலேக்கியரும் கானானியாரும் அந்த மலையிலே இருந்து இறங்கி வந்து, அவர்களை முறிய அடித்து, அவர்களை ஓர்மாமட்டும் துரத்தினார்கள்.

45. Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites who were living in the hill-country, and overcame them completely, driving them back as far as Hormah.
