1. அப்பொழுது சபையார் எல்லாரும் கூக்குரலிட்டுப் புலம்பினார்கள்; ஜனங்கள் அன்று இராமுழுதும் அழுதுகொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

1. At this all the people of Isra'el cried out in dismay and wept all night long.

2. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் எல்லாரும் மோசேக்கும் ஆரோனுக்கும் விரோதமாக முறுமுறுத்தார்கள். சபையார் எல்லாரும் அவர்களை நோக்கி: எகிப்துதேசத்திலே செத்துப்போனோமானால் நலமாயிருக்கும்; இந்த வனாந்தரத்திலே நாங்கள் செத்தாலும் நலம்.

2. Moreover, all the people of Isra'el began grumbling against Moshe and Aharon; the whole community told them, 'We wish we had died in the land of Egypt! or that we had died here in the desert!

3. நாங்கள் பட்டயத்தால் மடியும்படிக்கும், எங்கள் பெண்ஜாதிகளும் பிள்ளைகளும் கொள்ளையாகும்படிக்கும், கர்த்தர் எங்களை இந்த தேசத்துக்குக் கொண்டு வந்தது என்ன? எகிப்துக்குத் திரும்பிப் போகிறதே எங்களுக்கு உத்தமம் அல்லவோ என்றார்கள்.

3. Why is ADONAI bringing us to this land, where we will die by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be taken as booty! Wouldn't it be better for us to return to Egypt?'

4. And they said to each other, 'Let's appoint a leader and return to Egypt!'

5. Moshe and Aharon fell on their faces before the entire assembled community of the people of Isra'el.

6. Y'hoshua the son of Nun and Kalev the son of Y'funeh, from the detachment that had reconnoitered the land, tore their clothes

7. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரின் சமஸ்த சபையையும் நோக்கி: நாங்கள் போய்ச் சுற்றிப்பார்த்து சோதித்த தேசம் மகா நல்ல தேசம்.

7. and said to the whole community of Isra'el, 'The land we passed through in order to spy it out is an outstandingly good land!

8. கர்த்தர் நம்மேல் பிரியமாயிருந்தால், அந்தத் தேசத்திலே நம்மைக் கொண்டுபோய், பாலும் தேனும் ஓடுகிற அந்தத் தேசத்தை நமக்குக் கொடுப்பார்.

8. If ADONAI is pleased with us, then he will bring us into this land and give it to us- a land flowing with milk and honey.

9. கர்த்தருக்கு விரோதமாகமாத்திரம் கலகம்பண்ணாதிருங்கள்; அந்த தேசத்தின் ஜனங்களுக்கு நீங்கள் பயப்படவேண்டியதில்லை; அவர்கள் நமக்கு இரையாவார்கள்; அவர்களைக் காத்த நிழல் அவர்களை விட்டு விலகிப்போயிற்று; கர்த்தர் நம்மோடே இருக்கிறார்; அவர்களுக்குப் பயப்படவேண்டியதில்லை என்றார்கள்.

9. Just don't rebel against [ADONAI.] And don't be afraid of the people living in the land- we'll eat them up! Their defense has been taken away from them, and ADONAI is with us! Don't be afraid of them!'

10. அப்பொழுது அவர்கள்மேல் கல்லெறியவேண்டும் என்று சபையார் எல்லாரும் சொன்னார்கள்; உடனே கர்த்தருடைய மகிமை ஆசரிப்புக்கூடாரத்தில் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் எல்லாருக்கும் முன்பாகக் காணப்பட்டது.

10. But just as the whole community were saying they should be stoned to death, the glory of ADONAI appeared in the tent of meeting to all the people of Isra'el.

11. கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி: எதுவரைக்கும் இந்த ஜனங்கள் எனக்குக் கோபம் உண்டாக்குவார்கள்? தங்களுக்குள்ளே நான் காட்டின சகல அடையாளங்களையும் அவர்கள் கண்டும், எதுவரைக்கும் என்னை விசுவாசியாதிருப்பார்கள்?

11. ADONAI said to Moshe, 'How much longer is this people going to treat me with contempt? How much longer will they not trust me, especially considering all the signs I have performed among them?

12. நான் அவர்களைக் கொள்ளைநோயினால் வாதித்து, சுதந்தரத்துக்குப் பறம்பாக்கிப்போட்டு, அவர்களைப்பார்க்கிலும் உன்னைப் பெரிதும் பலத்ததுமான ஜாதியாக்குவேன் என்றார்.

12. I am going to strike them with sickness, destroy them and make from you a nation greater and stronger than they are!'

13. மோசே கர்த்தரை நோக்கி: எகிப்தியர் இதைக் கேட்பார்கள், அவர்கள் நடுவிலிருந்து உம்முடைய வல்லமையினாலே இந்த ஜனங்களைக் கொண்டுவந்தீரே.

13. However, Moshe replied to ADONAI, 'When the Egyptians hear about this- [[and they will,]] because it was from among them that you, by your strength, brought this people up-

14. கர்த்தராகிய நீர் இந்த ஜனங்களின் நடுவே இருக்கிறதையும், கர்த்தராகிய நீர் முகமுகமாய்த் தரிசனமாகிறதையும், உம்முடைய மேகம் இவர்கள்மேல் நிற்கிறதையும், பகலில் மேகத்தூணிலும், இரவில் அக்கினித்தூணிலும், நீர் இவர்களுக்கு முன் செல்லுகிறதையும் கேட்டிருக்கிறார்கள்; இந்த தேசத்தின் குடிகளுக்கும் சொல்லுவார்கள்.

14. they will tell the people living in this land. They have heard that you, ADONAI, are with this people; that you, ADONAI, are seen face to face; that your cloud stands over them; that you go ahead of them in a column of cloud by day and a column of fire by night.

15. ஒரே மனிதனைக் கொல்லுகிறது போல இந்த ஜனங்களையெல்லாம் நீர் கொல்வீரானால், அப்பொழுது உம்முடைய கீர்த்தியைக் கேட்டிருக்கும் புறஜாதியார்:

15. If you kill off this people at a single stroke, then the nations that have heard of your reputation will say

16. கர்த்தர் அந்த ஜனங்களுக்குக் கொடுப்போம் என்று ஆணையிட்டிருந்த தேசத்திலே அவர்களைக் கொண்டுபோய்விடக்கூடாதே போனபடியினால், அவர்களை வனாந்தரத்திலே கொன்றுபோட்டார் என்பார்களே.

16. that the reason ADONAI slaughtered this people in the desert is that he wasn't able to bring them into the land which he swore to give them.

17. ஆகையால் கர்த்தர் நீடிய சாந்தமும் மிகுந்த கிருபையுமுள்ளவர் என்றும், அக்கிரமத்தையும் மீறுதலையும் மன்னிக்கிறவர் என்றும், குற்றமுள்ளவர்களைக் குற்றமற்றவர்களாக விடாமல், பிதாக்கள் செய்த அக்கிரமத்தைப் பிள்ளைகளிடத்தில் மூன்றாம் நான்காம் தலைமுறைமட்டும் விசாரிக்கிறவர் என்றும், நீர் சொல்லியிருக்கிறபடியே,

17. So now, please, let [Adonai]'s power be as great as when you said,

18. என் ஆண்டவருடைய வல்லமை பெரிதாய் விளங்குவதாக.

18. 'ADONAI is slow to anger, rich in grace, forgiving offenses and crimes; yet not exonerating the guilty, but causing the negative effects of the parents' offenses to be experienced by their children and even by the third and fourth generations.'

19. உமது கிருபையினுடைய மகத்துவத்தின்படியேயும், எகிப்தை விட்டதுமுதல் இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் இந்த ஜனங்களுக்கு மன்னித்து வந்ததின்படியேயும், இந்த ஜனங்களின் அக்கிரமத்தை மன்னித்தருளும் என்றான்.

19. Please! Forgive the offense of this people according to the greatness of your grace, just as you have borne with this people from Egypt until now.'

20. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர்: உன் வார்த்தையின்படியே மன்னித்தேன்.

20. ADONAI answered, 'I have forgiven, as you have asked.

21. பூமியெல்லாம் கர்த்தருடைய மகிமையினால் நிறைந்திருக்கும் என்று என்னுடைய ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன்.

21. But as sure as I live, and that the whole earth is filled with the glory of ADONAI,

22. என் மகிமையையும், நான் எகிப்திலும் வனாந்தரத்திலும் செய்த என் அடையாளங்களையும் கண்டிருந்தும், என் சத்தத்துக்குச் செவிகொடாமல், இதனோடே பத்துமுறை என்னைப் பரீட்சைபார்த்த மனிதரில் ஒருவரும்,

22. none of the people who saw my glory and the signs I did in Egypt and in the desert, yet tested me these ten times and did not listen to my voice,

23. அவர்கள் பிதாக்களுக்கு நான் ஆணையிட்டுக்கொடுத்த தேசத்தைக் காணமாட்டார்கள்; எனக்குக் கோபம் உண்டாக்கினவர்களில் ஒருவரும் அதைக் காணமாட்டார்கள்.

23. will see the land I swore to their ancestors! None of those who treated me with contempt will see it.

24. என்னுடைய தாசனாகிய காலேப் வேறே ஆவியை உடையவனாயிருக்கிறபடியினாலும், உத்தமமாய் என்னைப் பின்பற்றி வந்தபடியினாலும், அவன் போய் வந்த தேசத்திலே அவனைச் சேரப்பண்ணுவேன்; அவன் சந்ததியார் அதைச் சுதந்தரித்துக்கொள்ளுவார்கள்.

24. But my servant Kalev, because he had a different Spirit with him and has fully followed me- him I will bring into the land he entered, and it will belong to his descendants.

25. அமலேக்கியரும் கானானியரும் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே குடியிருக்கிறபடியினால், நாளைக்கு நீங்கள் திரும்பி சிவந்த சமுத்திரத்துக்குப் போகிற வழியாய் வனாந்தரத்துக்குப் பிரயாணம்பண்ணுங்கள் என்றார்.

25. 'Now, since the 'Amaleki and the Kena'ani are living in the valley, tomorrow turn around and get yourselves into the desert along the way to the Sea of [Suf].'

26. பின்னும் கர்த்தர் மோசேயையும் ஆரோனையும் நோக்கி:

26. ADONAI said to Moshe and Aharon,

27. எனக்கு விரோதமாய் முறுமுறுக்கிற இந்தப் பொல்லாத சபையாரை எதுவரைக்கும் பொறுப்பேன்? இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் எனக்கு விரோதமாய் முறுமுறுக்கிறதைக் கேட்டேன்.

27. 'How long am I to put up with this evil community who keep grumbling about me? I have heard the complaints of the people of Isra'el, which they continue to raise against me.

28. நீ அவர்களோடே சொல்லவேண்டியது என்னவென்றால்: நீங்கள் என் செவிகள் கேட்கச் சொன்ன பிரகாரம் உங்களுக்குச் செய்வேன் என்பதை என் ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்று கர்த்தர் உரைக்கிறார்.

28. Tell them this: 'As surely as I live, ADONAI swears, as surely as you have spoken in my ears, I will do this to you:

29. இந்த வனாந்தரத்தில் உங்கள் பிரேதங்கள் விழும்; உங்களில் இருபது வயது முதல் அதற்கு மேற்பட்டவர்களாக எண்ணப்பட்டு, உங்கள் தொகைக்கு உட்பட்டவர்களும் எனக்கு விரோதமாய் முறுமுறுத்திருக்கிறவர்களுமாகிய அனைவரின் பிரேதங்களும் விழும்.

29. your carcasses will fall in this desert! Every single one of you who were included in the census over the age of twenty, you who have complained against me,

30. எப்புன்னேயின் குமாரன் காலேபும், நூனின் குமாரன் யோசுவாவும் தவிர, மற்றவர்களாகிய நீங்கள் நான் உங்களைக் குடியேற்றுவேன் என்று ஆணையிட்டுக்கொடுத்த தேசத்தில் பிரவேசிப்பதில்லை.

30. will certainly not enter the land about which I raised my hand to swear that I would have you live in it- except for Kalev the son of Y'funeh and Y'hoshua the son of Nun.

31. கொள்ளையாவார்கள் என்று நீங்கள் சொன்ன உங்கள் குழந்தைகளையோ நான் அதில் பிரவேசிக்கச் செய்வேன்; நீங்கள் அசட்டைப்பண்ணின தேசத்தை அவர்கள் கண்டறிவார்கள்.

31. But your little ones, who you said would be taken as booty- them I will bring in. They will know the land you have rejected.

32. உங்கள் பிரேதங்களோ இந்த வனாந்தரத்திலே விழும்.

32. But you, your carcasses will fall in this desert;

33. அவைகள் வனாந்தரத்திலே விழுந்து தீருமட்டும், உங்கள் பிள்ளைகள் நாற்பது வருஷம் வனாந்தரத்திலே திரிந்து, நீங்கள் சோரம்போன பாதகத்தைச் சுமப்பார்கள்.

33. and your children will wander about in the desert for forty years bearing the consequences of your prostitutions until the desert eats up your carcasses.

34. It will be a year for every day you spent reconnoitering the land that you will bear the consequences of your offenses- forty days, forty years. Then you will know what it means to oppose me!

35. I, ADONAI, have spoken.' I will certainly do this to this whole evil community who have assembled together against me- they will be destroyed in this desert and die there.'

36. அந்தத் தேசத்தைச் சோதித்துப் பார்க்கும்படி மோசேயால் அனுப்பப்பட்டுத் திரும்பி, அந்தத் தேசத்தைக்குறித்துத் துர்ச்செய்தி கொண்டுவந்து,

36. The men whom Moshe had sent to reconnoiter the land and who, when they returned, made the entire community complain against him by giving an unfavorable report about the land-

37. சபையார் எல்லாரும் அவனுக்கு விரோதமாய் முறுமுறுக்கும்படி அந்தத் துர்ச்செய்தியைச் சொன்னவர்களாகிய அந்த மனிதர் கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் வாதையினால் செத்தார்கள்.

37. those men who gave the unfavorable report about the land died by the plague in the presence of ADONAI.

38. தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப் பார்க்கப்போன அந்த மனிதரில் நூனின் குமாரனாகிய யோசுவாவும், எப்புன்னேயின் குமாரனாகிய காலேபும் மாத்திரம் உயிரோடிருந்தார்கள்.

38. Of the men who went to reconnoiter the land, only Y'hoshua the son of Nun and Kalev the son of Y'funeh remained alive.

39. மோசே இந்த வார்த்தைகளை இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் அனைவரோடும் சொன்னபோது, ஜனங்கள் மிகவும் துக்கித்தார்கள்.

39. When Moshe told these things to all the people of Isra'el, the people felt great remorse.

40. அதிகாலமே அவர்கள் எழுந்திருந்து: நாங்கள் பாவஞ்செய்தோம், கர்த்தர் வாக்குத்தத்தம்பண்ணின இடத்துக்கு நாங்கள் போவோம் என்று சொல்லி மலையின் உச்சியில் ஏறத்துணிந்தார்கள்.

40. They arose early the next morning, came up to the top of the mountain and said, 'Here we are, and we did sin, but now we'll go up to the place ADONAI promised.'

41. மோசே அவர்களை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் இப்படி கர்த்தரின் கட்டளையை மீறுகிறதென்ன? அது உங்களுக்கு வாய்க்காது.

41. Moshe answered, 'Why are you opposing what ADONAI said? You won't succeed!

42. நீங்கள் உங்கள் சத்துருக்களுக்கு முன்பாக முறிய அடிக்கப்படாதபடிக்கு ஏறிப்போகாதிருங்கள்; கர்த்தர் உங்கள் நடுவில் இரார்.

42. Don't go up there, because ADONAI isn't with you. If you do, your enemies will defeat you.

43. அமலேக்கியரும் கானானியரும் அங்கே உங்களுக்குமுன்னே இருக்கிறார்கள்; பட்டயத்தினால் விழுவீர்கள்; நீங்கள் கர்த்தரை விட்டுப் பின்வாங்கினபடியால், கர்த்தர் உங்களோடே இருக்கமாட்டார் என்றான்.

43. The 'Amalekim and the Kena'anim are there ahead of you, and you will be struck down by the sword. The reason will be that you have turned away from following ADONAI, so that ADONAI won't be with you.'

44. ஆனாலும் அவர்கள் மலையின் உச்சியில் ஏறத் துணிந்தார்கள்; கர்த்தருடைய உடன்படிக்கையின் பெட்டியும் மோசேயும் பாளயத்தை விட்டுப்போகவில்லை.

44. But they were presumptuous and went on up toward the high parts of the hill-country, even though the ark for the covenant of ADONAI- and Moshe- stayed in the camp.

45. அப்பொழுது அமலேக்கியரும் கானானியாரும் அந்த மலையிலே இருந்து இறங்கி வந்து, அவர்களை முறிய அடித்து, அவர்களை ஓர்மாமட்டும் துரத்தினார்கள்.

45. So the 'Amalekim and the Kena'anim living in that hill-country descended, struck them down and beat them back all the way to Hormah.
