1. பிள்ளைகளே, நீங்கள் தகப்பன் போதகத்தைக் கேட்டு, புத்தியை அடையும்படி கவனியுங்கள்.

1. Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, and give attention to know understanding.

2. நான் உங்களுக்கு நற்போதகத்தைத் தருகிறேன்; என் உபதேசத்தை விடாதிருங்கள்.

2. For I give you a good gift; forsake not my law.

3. நான் என் தகப்பனுக்குப் பிரியமான குமாரனும், என் தாய்க்கு மிகவும் அருமையான ஒரே பிள்ளையுமானவன்.

3. For I also was a son obedient to my father, and loved in the sight of my mother:

4. அவர் எனக்குப் போதித்துச் சொன்னது: உன் இருதயம் என் வார்த்தைகளைக் காத்துக்கொள்ளக்கடவது; என் கட்டளைகளைக் கைக்கொள், அப்பொழுது பிழைப்பாய்.

4. who spoke and instructed me, [saying], Let our speech be fixed in your heart, keep our commandments, forget them not:

5. ஞானத்தைச் சம்பாதி, புத்தியையும் சம்பாதி; என் வாயின் வார்த்தைகளை மறவாமலும் விட்டு விலகாமலும் இரு.

5. and do not neglect the speech of my mouth.

6. அதை விடாதே, அது உன்னைத் தற்காக்கும்; அதின்மேல் பிரியமாயிரு, அது உன்னைக் காத்துக்கொள்ளும்.

6. And forsake it not, and it shall cleave to you: love it, and it shall keep you.

7. ஞானமே முக்கியம், ஞானத்தைச் சம்பாதி; என்னத்தைச் சம்பாதித்தாலும் புத்தியைச் சம்பாதித்துக்கொள்.

8. நீ அதை மேன்மைப்படுத்து, அது உன்னை மேன்மைப்படுத்தும்; நீ அதைத் தழுவிக்கொண்டால், அது உன்னைக் கனம்பண்ணும்.

8. Secure it, and it shall exalt you: honor it, that it may embrace you;

9. அது உன் தலைக்கு அலங்காரமான முடியைக் கொடுக்கும்; அது மகிமையான கிரீடத்தை உனக்குச் சூட்டும்.

9. that it may give unto your head a crown of grace, and may cover you with a crown of delight.

10. என் மகனே, கேள், என் வார்த்தைகளை ஏற்றுக்கொள்; அப்பொழுது உன் ஆயுசின் வருஷங்கள் அதிகமாகும்.

10. Hear, [my] son, and receive my words, and the years of your life shall be increased, that the resources of your life may be many.

11. ஞானமார்க்கத்தை நான் உனக்குப் போதித்தேன்; செவ்வையான பாதைகளிலே உன்னை நடத்தினேன்.

11. For I teach you the ways of wisdom; and I cause you to go in right paths.

12. நீ அவைகளில் நடக்கும்போது உன் நடைகளுக்கு இடுக்கண் உண்டாவதில்லை; நீ அவைகளில் ஓடினாலும் இடறமாட்டாய்.

12. For when you go, your steps shall not be hindered; and when you run, you shall not be distressed.

13. புத்திமதியை உறுதியாய்ப் பற்றிக்கொள், அதை விட்டுவிடாதே; அதைக்காத்துக்கொள், அதுவே உனக்கு ஜீவன்.

13. Take hold of my instruction; do not let it go, but keep it for yourself, for your life.

14. துன்மார்க்கருடைய பாதையில் பிரவேசியாதே; தீயோருடைய வழியில் நடவாதே.

14. Go not in the ways of the ungodly, neither covet the ways of transgressors.

15. அதை வெறுத்துவிடு, அதின் வழியாய்ப் போகாதே; அதை விட்டு விலகிக் கடந்துபோ.

15. In whatever place they shall pitch their camp, do not go there; but turn from them, and pass away.

16. பொல்லாப்புச் செய்தாலொழிய அவர்களுக்கு நித்திரை வராது; அவர்கள் யாரையாகிலும் விழப்பண்ணாதிருந்தால் அவர்கள் தூக்கம் கலைந்துபோகும்.

16. For they cannot sleep, unless they have done evil: their sleep is taken away, and they rest not.

17. அவர்கள் ஆகாமியத்தின் அப்பத்தைப் புசித்து, கொடுமையின் இரசத்தைக் குடிக்கிறார்கள்.

17. For these live upon the bread of ungodliness, and are drunken with [the] wine of transgression.

18. நீதிமான்களுடைய பாதை நடுப்பகல்வரைக்கும் அதிகமதிகமாய்ப் பிரகாசிக்கிற சூரியப்பிரகாசம் போலிருக்கும்.

18. But the ways of the righteous shine like light; they go forth and shine, until the day has fully come.

19. துன்மார்க்கருடைய பாதையோ காரிருளைப்போலிருக்கும்; தாங்கள் இடறுவது இன்னதில் என்று அறியார்கள்.

19. But the ways of the ungodly are like darkness; they know not how they stumble.

20. என் மகனே, என் வார்த்தைகளைக் கவனி; என் வசனங்களுக்கு உன் செவியைச் சாய்.

20. [My] son, attend to my speech, and incline your ear to my words,

21. அவைகள் உன் கண்களை விட்டுப் பிரியாதிருப்பதாக; அவைகளை உன் இருதயத்துக்குள்ளே காத்துக்கொள்.

21. that your fountains may not fail you; keep them in [your] heart.

22. அவைகளைக் கண்டுபிடிக்கிறவர்களுக்கு அவைகள் ஜீவனும், அவர்கள் உடலுக்கெல்லாம் ஆரோக்கியமுமாம்.

22. For they are life to those that find them, and health to all [their] flesh.

23. எல்லாக் காவலோடும் உன் இருதயத்தைக் காத்துக்கொள், அதினிடத்தினின்று ஜீவவூற்று புறப்படும்.

23. Keep your heart with the utmost care, for out of these are the issues of life.

24. வாயின் தாறுமாறுகளை உன்னை விட்டகற்றி, உதடுகளின் மாறுபாட்டை உனக்குத் தூரப்படுத்து.

24. Remove from yourself a deceitful mouth, and put unjust lips far away from yourself.

25. உன் கண்கள் நேராய் நோக்கக்கடவது; உன் கண்ணிமைகள் உனக்கு முன்னே செவ்வையாய்ப் பார்க்கக்கடவது.

25. Let your eyes look right on, and let your eyelids assent [to] just [things].

26. உன் கால் நடையைச் சீர்தூக்கிப்பார்; உன் வழிகளெல்லாம் நிலைவரப்பட்டிருப்பதாக.

26. Make straight paths for your feet, and order your ways rightly.

27. வலதுபுறமாவது இடதுபுறமாவது சாயாதே; உன் காலைத் தீமைக்கு விலக்குவாயாக.

27. Turn not aside to the right hand, nor to the left, but turn away your foot from an evil way: [ 4:27A] for God knows the ways on the right hand, but those on the left are crooked: [ 4:27B] and He will make your ways straight, and will guide your steps in peace.
