1. பொல்லாத மனுஷர்மேல் பொறாமை கொள்ளாதே; அவர்களோடே இருக்கவும் விரும்பாதே.

1. Do not be envious of evil men, nor desire to be with them.

2. அவர்கள் இருதயம் கொடுமையை யோசிக்கும், அவர்கள் உதடுகள் தீவினையைப் பேசும்.

2. For their heart devises violence, and their lips talk of mischief.

3. வீடு ஞானத்தினாலே கட்டப்பட்டு, விவேகத்தினாலே நிலைநிறுத்தப்படும்.

3. Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established;

4. அறிவினாலே அறைகளில் அருமையும் இனிமையுமான சகலவிதப் பொருள்களும் நிறைந்திருக்கும்.

4. and by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

5. ஞானமுள்ளவன் பெலமுள்ளவன்; அறிவுள்ளவன் தன் வல்லமையை அதிகரிக்கப்பண்ணுகிறான்.

5. A wise man is strong; yes, a man of knowledge increases strength.

6. நல்யோசனைசெய்து யுத்தம்பண்ணு; ஆலோசனைக்காரர் அநேகரால் ஜெயங்கிடைக்கும்.

6. For by wise counsel you shall wage war; and in a multitude of counselors is safety.

7. மூடனுக்கு ஞானம் எட்டாத உயரமாயிருக்கும்; அவன் நியாயஸ்தலத்தில் தன் வாயைத் திறவான்.

7. Wisdom is too lofty for a fool; he does not open his mouth in the gate.

8. தீவினைசெய்ய உபாயஞ்செய்கிறவன் துஷ்டன் என்னப்படுவான்.

8. He who plots to do evil shall be called a master of evil plots.

9. தீயநோக்கம் பாவமாம்; பரியாசக்காரன் மனுஷருக்கு அருவருப்பானவன்.

9. The wicked devices of foolishness is sin; and the scorner is an abomination to men.

10. ஆபத்துக்காலத்தில் நீ சோர்ந்துபோவாயானால், உன் பெலன் குறுகினது.

10. If you faint in the day of distress, your strength is small.

11. மரணத்துக்கு ஒப்பிக்கப்பட்டவர்களையும், கொலையுண்ணப்போகிறவர்களையும் விடுவிக்கக்கூடுமானால் விடுவி.

11. If you refrain from delivering those being led away to death, those about to die;

12. அதை அறியோம் என்பாயாகில், இருதயங்களைச் சோதிக்கிறவர் அறியாரோ? உன் ஆத்துமாவைக் காக்கிறவர் கவனியாரோ? அவர் மனுஷருக்கு அவனவன் கிரியைக்குத்தக்கதாகப் பலனளியாரோ?

12. if you say, Behold, we did not know it; does not He who ponders the heart consider it? And the Keeper of your soul, does He not know it? And shall He not repay to a man according to his deeds?

13. என் மகனே, தேனைச் சாப்பிடு, அது நல்லது; கூட்டிலிருந்து ஒழுகும் தேன் உன் வாய்க்கு இன்பமாயிருக்கும்.

13. My son, eat honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb which is sweet to your taste.

14. அப்படியே ஞானத்தை அறிந்துகொள்வது உன் ஆத்துமாவுக்கு இன்பமாயிருக்கும்; அதைப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டால், அது முடிவில் உதவும், உன் நம்பிக்கை வீண்போகாது.

14. So shall the knowledge of wisdom be to your soul; when you have found it, then there shall be a reward, and your expectation shall not be cut off.

15. துஷ்டனே, நீ நீதிமானுடைய வாசஸ்தலத்துக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் பதிவிராதே; அவன் தங்கும் இடத்தைப் பாழாக்கிப்போடாதே.

15. O wicked one, do not lie in wait at the dwelling of the righteous; do not assault his resting place;

16. நீதிமான் ஏழுதரம் விழுந்தாலும் திரும்பவும் எழுந்திருப்பான்; துன்மார்க்கரோ தீங்கிலே இடறுண்டு கிடப்பார்கள்.

16. for a just man may fall seven times, and rise up again; but the wicked shall stumble into evil.

17. உன் சத்துரு விழும்போது சந்தோஷப்படாதே; அவன் இடறும்போது உன் இருதயம் களிகூராதிருப்பதாக.

17. Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles;

18. கர்த்தர் அதைக் காண்பார், அது அவர் பார்வைக்குப் பொல்லாப்பாயிருக்கும்; அப்பொழுது அவனிடத்தினின்று அவர் தமது கோபத்தை நீக்கிவிடுவார்.

18. lest Jehovah see it, and it displease Him, and He turns away His wrath from him.

19. பொல்லாதவர்களைக்குறித்து எரிச்சலாகாதே; துன்மார்க்கர்மேல் பொறாமை கொள்ளாதே.

19. Do not fret yourself because of evildoers, nor be envious of the wicked;

20. துன்மார்க்கனுக்கு நல்முடிவு இல்லை; துன்மார்க்கருடைய விளக்கு அணைந்துபோகும்.

20. for there shall not be a posterity to the evil; the lamp of the wicked shall be extinguished.

21. என் மகனே, நீ கர்த்தருக்கும் ராஜாவுக்கும் பயந்து நட, கலகக்காரரோடு கலவாதே.

21. My son, fear Jehovah and the king; and do not fellowship with those who are given to change;

22. சடிதியில் அவர்களுடைய ஆபத்து எழும்பும்; அவர்கள் இருவரின் சங்காரத்தையும் அறிந்தவன் யார்?

22. for their disaster shall rise suddenly, and who knows the ruin of them both?

23. பின்னும் ஞானமுள்ளவர்களின் புத்திமதிகள் என்னவெனில்: நியாயத்திலே முகதாட்சிணியம் நல்லதல்ல.

23. These things also are to the wise: To show partiality in judgment is not good.

24. துன்மார்க்கனைப் பார்த்து: நீதிமானாயிருக்கிறாய் என்று சொல்லுகிறவனை ஜனங்கள் சபிப்பார்கள், பிரஜைகள் அவனை வெறுப்பார்கள்.

24. He who says to the wicked, You are righteous; the people will curse him and nations will abhor him.

25. அவனைக் கடிந்துகொள்ளுகிறவர்கள்மேல் பிரியமுண்டாகும், அவர்களுக்கு உத்தம ஆசீர்வாதம் கிடைக்கும்.

25. But to those who rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.

26. செம்மையான மறுமொழி சொல்லுகிறவன் உதடுகளை முத்தமிடுகிறவனுக்குச் சமானம்.

26. He shall kiss the lips that return right words.

27. வெளியில் உன் வேலையை எத்தனப்படுத்தி, வயலில் அதை ஒழுங்காக்கி, பின்பு உன் வீட்டைக் கட்டு.

27. Prepare your work outside, and make ready for yourself in the field; and afterwards build your house.

28. நியாயமின்றிப் பிறனுக்கு விரோதமாய்ச் சாட்சியாக ஏற்படாதே; உன் உதடுகளினால் வஞ்சகம் பேசாதே.

28. Do not be a witness against your neighbor without cause, nor deceive with your lips.

29. அவன் எனக்குச் செய்தபிரகாரம் நானும் அவனுக்குச் செய்வேன், அவன் செய்த செய்கைக்குத்தக்கதாக நானும் அவனுக்குச் சரிக்கட்டுவேன் என்று நீ சொல்லாதே.

29. Do not say, I will do to him as he has done to me; I will render to the man according to his deeds.

30. சோம்பேறியின் வயலையும், மதியீனனுடைய திராட்சத்தோட்டத்தையும் கடந்துபோனேன்.

30. I went by the field of the lazy man, and by the vineyard of the man lacking heart;

31. இதோ, அதெல்லாம் முள்ளுக்காடாயிருந்தது; நிலத்தின் முகத்தைக் காஞ்சொறி மூடினது, அதின் கற்சுவர் இடிந்துகிடந்தது.

31. and, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face of it, and its stone wall was broken down.

32. அதைக் கண்டு சிந்தனைபண்ணினேன்; அதை நோக்கிப் புத்தியடைந்தேன்.

32. Then I saw; I set my heart on it; I observed and received instruction.

33. இன்னுங்கொஞ்சம் உறங்கட்டும், இன்னுங்கொஞ்சம் கைமுடக்கிக்கொண்டு நித்திரை செய்யட்டும் என்பாயோ?

33. A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest;

34. உன் தரித்திரம் வழிப்போக்கனைப்போலும் உன் வறுமை ஆயுதமணிந்தவனைப்போலும் வரும்.

34. so shall your poverty come like a prowler, and your want like an armed man.
