1. பொல்லாத மனுஷர்மேல் பொறாமை கொள்ளாதே; அவர்களோடே இருக்கவும் விரும்பாதே.

1. Don't be envious of evil people, and don't desire to be with them.

2. அவர்கள் இருதயம் கொடுமையை யோசிக்கும், அவர்கள் உதடுகள் தீவினையைப் பேசும்.

2. For their minds are occupied with violence, and their lips speak of making trouble.

3. வீடு ஞானத்தினாலே கட்டப்பட்டு, விவேகத்தினாலே நிலைநிறுத்தப்படும்.

3. By wisdom a house is built, by understanding it is made secure,

4. அறிவினாலே அறைகளில் அருமையும் இனிமையுமான சகலவிதப் பொருள்களும் நிறைந்திருக்கும்.

4. and by knowledge its rooms are filled with all kinds of costly and pleasant possessions.

5. ஞானமுள்ளவன் பெலமுள்ளவன்; அறிவுள்ளவன் தன் வல்லமையை அதிகரிக்கப்பண்ணுகிறான்.

5. A wise man is strong; yes, a man of knowledge grows in strength.

6. நல்யோசனைசெய்து யுத்தம்பண்ணு; ஆலோசனைக்காரர் அநேகரால் ஜெயங்கிடைக்கும்.

6. For with clever strategy you wage your war, and victory comes from having many advisers.

7. மூடனுக்கு ஞானம் எட்டாத உயரமாயிருக்கும்; அவன் நியாயஸ்தலத்தில் தன் வாயைத் திறவான்.

7. Wisdom is too lofty for a fool; he keeps his mouth shut at the city gate.

8. தீவினைசெய்ய உபாயஞ்செய்கிறவன் துஷ்டன் என்னப்படுவான்.

8. He who plans to do evil people call a schemer.

9. தீயநோக்கம் பாவமாம்; பரியாசக்காரன் மனுஷருக்கு அருவருப்பானவன்.

9. The evil plans of the foolish are sin, and people detest a scorner.

10. ஆபத்துக்காலத்தில் நீ சோர்ந்துபோவாயானால், உன் பெலன் குறுகினது.

10. If you slack off on a day of distress, your strength is small indeed.

11. மரணத்துக்கு ஒப்பிக்கப்பட்டவர்களையும், கொலையுண்ணப்போகிறவர்களையும் விடுவிக்கக்கூடுமானால் விடுவி.

11. Yes, rescue those being dragged off to death- won't you save those about to be killed?

12. If you say, 'We knew nothing about it,' won't he who weighs hearts discern it? Yes, he who guards you will know it and repay each one as his deeds deserve.

13. My son, eat honey, for it is good; honeycomb drippings are sweet to your taste.

14. Know that wisdom is similar[[ly sweet]] to your soul; if you find it, then you will have a future, what you hope for will not be cut off.

15. துஷ்டனே, நீ நீதிமானுடைய வாசஸ்தலத்துக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் பதிவிராதே; அவன் தங்கும் இடத்தைப் பாழாக்கிப்போடாதே.

15. Don't lurk like an outlaw near the home of the righteous, don't raid the place where he lives.

16. நீதிமான் ஏழுதரம் விழுந்தாலும் திரும்பவும் எழுந்திருப்பான்; துன்மார்க்கரோ தீங்கிலே இடறுண்டு கிடப்பார்கள்.

16. For though he falls seven times, he will get up again; it's the wicked who fail under stress.

17. உன் சத்துரு விழும்போது சந்தோஷப்படாதே; அவன் இடறும்போது உன் இருதயம் களிகூராதிருப்பதாக.

17. Don't rejoice when your enemy falls; don't let your heart be glad when he stumbles.

18. For ADONAI might see it, and it would displease him; he might withdraw his anger from your foe.

19. Don't get upset because of evildoers; don't be envious of the wicked.

20. துன்மார்க்கனுக்கு நல்முடிவு இல்லை; துன்மார்க்கருடைய விளக்கு அணைந்துபோகும்.

20. For the evil person has no future- the lamp of the wicked will go out.

21. My son, don't get involved with revolutionaries, but fear ADONAI and the king.

22. சடிதியில் அவர்களுடைய ஆபத்து எழும்பும்; அவர்கள் இருவரின் சங்காரத்தையும் அறிந்தவன் யார்?

22. For disaster from them will suddenly appear, and who knows what ruin they both can cause?

23. பின்னும் ஞானமுள்ளவர்களின் புத்திமதிகள் என்னவெனில்: நியாயத்திலே முகதாட்சிணியம் நல்லதல்ல.

23. These also are sayings of the wise: Showing partiality in judgment is not good.

24. துன்மார்க்கனைப் பார்த்து: நீதிமானாயிருக்கிறாய் என்று சொல்லுகிறவனை ஜனங்கள் சபிப்பார்கள், பிரஜைகள் அவனை வெறுப்பார்கள்.

24. He who tells the guilty, 'You are innocent,' will be cursed by peoples, reviled by nations;

25. அவனைக் கடிந்துகொள்ளுகிறவர்கள்மேல் பிரியமுண்டாகும், அவர்களுக்கு உத்தம ஆசீர்வாதம் கிடைக்கும்.

25. but with those who condemn him, things will go well, and a good blessing will come upon them.

26. செம்மையான மறுமொழி சொல்லுகிறவன் உதடுகளை முத்தமிடுகிறவனுக்குச் சமானம்.

26. Giving an honest answer is like giving a kiss.

27. வெளியில் உன் வேலையை எத்தனப்படுத்தி, வயலில் அதை ஒழுங்காக்கி, பின்பு உன் வீட்டைக் கட்டு.

27. Prepare your outside work, and get things ready for yourself on the land; after that, build your house.

28. Don't be a witness against your neighbor for no reason- would you use your lips to deceive?

29. அவன் எனக்குச் செய்தபிரகாரம் நானும் அவனுக்குச் செய்வேன், அவன் செய்த செய்கைக்குத்தக்கதாக நானும் அவனுக்குச் சரிக்கட்டுவேன் என்று நீ சொல்லாதே.

29. Don't say, 'I'll do to him what he did to me, I'll pay him back what his deeds deserve.'

30. I passed by the field of the lazy man and the vineyard of the man lacking sense.

31. There it was, overgrown with thistles; the ground was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down.

32. அதைக் கண்டு சிந்தனைபண்ணினேன்; அதை நோக்கிப் புத்தியடைந்தேன்.

32. I looked, and I thought about it; I saw, and I learned this lesson:

33. இன்னுங்கொஞ்சம் உறங்கட்டும், இன்னுங்கொஞ்சம் கைமுடக்கிக்கொண்டு நித்திரை செய்யட்டும் என்பாயோ?

33. I'll just lie here a bit, rest a little longer, just fold my hands for a little more sleep'-

34. உன் தரித்திரம் வழிப்போக்கனைப்போலும் உன் வறுமை ஆயுதமணிந்தவனைப்போலும் வரும்.

34. and poverty comes marching in on you, scarcity hits you like an invading soldier.
