1. திரளான ஐசுவரியத்தைப்பார்க்கிலும் நற்கீர்த்தியே தெரிந்து கொள்ளப்படத்தக்கது; பொன் வெள்ளியைப் பார்க்கிலும் தயையே நலம்.

1. A good name is more desirable than great riches, And loving favor is better than silver and gold.

2. ஐசுவரியவானும் தரித்திரனும் ஒருவரையொருவர் சந்திக்கிறார்கள்; அவர்கள் அனைவரையும் உண்டாக்கினவர் கர்த்தர்.

2. The rich and the poor have this in common: Yahweh is the maker of them all.

3. விவேகி ஆபத்தைக் கண்டு மறைந்து கொள்ளுகிறான்; பேதைகள் நெடுகப்போய் தண்டிக்கப்படுகிறார்கள்.

3. A prudent man sees danger, and hides himself; But the simple pass on, and suffer for it.

4. தாழ்மைக்கும் கர்த்தருக்குப் பயப்படுதலுக்கும் வரும் பலன் ஐசுவரியமும் மகிமையும் ஜீவனுமாம்.

4. The result of humility and the fear of Yahweh Is wealth, honor, and life.

5. மாறுபாடுள்ளவனுடைய வழியிலே முள்ளுகளும் கண்ணிகளுமுண்டு; தன் ஆத்துமாவைக் காக்கிறவன் அவைகளுக்குத் தூரமாய் விலகிப்போவான்.

5. Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked: Whoever guards his soul stays from them.

6. பிள்ளையானவன் நடக்கவேண்டிய வழியிலே அவனை நடத்து; அவன் முதிர்வயதிலும் அதை விடாதிருப்பான்.

6. Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.

7. ஐசுவரியவான் தரித்திரனை ஆளுகிறான்; கடன் வாங்கினவன் கடன் கொடுத்தவனுக்கு அடிமை.

7. The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender.

8. அநியாயத்தை விதைக்கிறவன் வருத்தத்தை அறுப்பான்; அவன் உக்கிரத்தின் மிலாறு ஒழியும்.

8. He who sows wickedness reaps trouble, And the rod of his fury will be destroyed.

9. கருணைக்கண்ணன் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்படுவான்; அவன் தன் ஆகாரத்தில் தரித்திரனுக்குக் கொடுக்கிறான்.

9. He who has a generous eye will be blessed; For he shares his food with the poor.

10. பரியாசக்காரனைத் துரத்திவிடு; அப்பொழுது வாது நீங்கும், விரோதமும் அவமானமும் ஒழியும்.

10. Drive out the mocker, and strife will go out; Yes, quarrels and insults will stop.

11. சுத்த இருதயத்தை விரும்புகிறவனுடைய உதடுகள் இனிமையானவைகள்; ராஜா அவனுக்குச் சிநேகிதனாவான்.

11. He who loves purity of heart and speaks gracefully Is the king's friend.

12. கர்த்தருடைய கண்கள் ஞானத்தைக் காக்கும்; துரோகிகளின் வார்த்தைகளையோ அவர் தாறுமாறாக்குகிறார்.

12. The eyes of Yahweh watch over knowledge; But he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.

13. வெளியிலே சிங்கம், வீதியிலே கொலையுண்பேன் என்று சோம்பேறி சொல்லுவான்.

13. The sluggard says, 'There is a lion outside! I will be killed in the streets!'

14. பரஸ்திரீகளின் வாய் ஆழமான படுகுழி; கர்த்தருடைய கோபத்திற்கு ஏதுவானவன் அதிலே விழுவான்.

14. The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit: He who is under Yahweh's wrath will fall into it.

15. பிள்ளையின் நெஞ்சில் மதியீனம் ஒட்டியிருக்கும்; அதைத் தண்டனையின் பிரம்பு அவனை விட்டு அகற்றும்.

15. Folly is bound up in the heart of a child: The rod of discipline drives it far from him.

16. தனக்கு அதிகம் உண்டாகத் தரித்திரனை ஒடுக்குகிறவன் தனக்குக் குறைச்சலுண்டாகவே ஐசுவரியவானுக்குக் கொடுப்பான்.

16. Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, Both come to poverty.

17. உன் செவியைச் சாய்த்து, ஞானிகளுடைய வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்டு, என் போதகத்தை உன் இருதயத்தில் வை.

17. Turn your ear, and listen to the words of the wise. Apply your heart to my teaching.

18. அவைகளை உன் உள்ளத்தில் காத்து, அவைகளை உன் உதடுகளில் நிலைத்திருக்கப்பண்ணும்போது, அது இன்பமாயிருக்கும்.

18. For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you, If all of them are ready on your lips.

19. உன் நம்பிக்கை கர்த்தர்மேல் இருக்கும்படி, இன்றையதினம் அவைகளை உனக்குத் தெரியப்படுத்துகிறேன்.

19. That your trust may be in Yahweh, I teach you today, even you.

20. சத்திய வார்த்தைகளின் யதார்த்தத்தை நான் உனக்குத் தெரிவிக்கும்படிக்கும், நீ உன்னை அனுப்பினவர்களுக்குச் சத்திய வார்த்தைகளை மறுமொழியாகச் சொல்லும்படிக்கும்,

20. Haven't I written to you thirty excellent things Of counsel and knowledge,

21. ஆலோசனையையும் ஞானத்தையும் பற்றி நான் உனக்கு முக்கியமானவைகளை எழுதவில்லையா?

21. To teach you truth, reliable words, To give sound answers to the ones who sent you?

22. ஏழையாயிருக்கிறான் என்று ஏழையைக் கொள்ளையிடாதே; சிறுமையானவனை நியாயஸ்தலத்தில் உபத்திரவப்படுத்தாதே.

22. Don't exploit the poor, because he is poor; And don't crush the needy in court;

23. கர்த்தர் அவர்களுக்காக வழக்காடி, அவர்களைக் கொள்ளையிடுகிறவர்களுடைய பிராணனைக் கொள்ளையிடுவார்.

23. For Yahweh will plead their case, And plunder the life of those who plunder them.

24. கோபக்காரனுக்குத் தோழனாகாதே; உக்கிரமுள்ள மனுஷனோடே நடவாதே.

24. Don't befriend a hot-tempered man, And don't associate with one who harbors anger:

25. அப்படிச் செய்தால். நீ அவனுடைய வழிகளைக் கற்றுக்கொண்டு, உன் ஆத்துமாவுக்குக் கண்ணியை வருவிப்பாய்.

25. Lest you learn his ways, And ensnare your soul.

26. கையடித்து உடன்பட்டு, கடனுக்காகப் பிணைப்படுகிறவர்களில் ஒருவனாகாதே.

26. Don't you be one of those who strike hands, Of those who are collateral for debts.

27. செலுத்த உனக்கு ஒன்றுமில்லாதிருந்தால், நீ படுத்திருக்கும் படுக்கையையும் அவன் எடுத்துக்கொள்ளவேண்டியதாகுமே.

27. If you don't have means to pay, Why should he take away your bed from under you?

28. உன் பிதாக்கள் நாட்டின பூர்வ எல்லைக்குறியை மாற்றாதே.

28. Don't move the ancient boundary stone, Which your fathers have set up.

29. தன் வேலையில் ஜாக்கிரதையாயிருக்கிறவனை நீ கண்டால், அவன் நீசருக்கு முன்பாக நில்லாமல், ராஜாக்களுக்கு முன்பாக நிற்பான்.

29. Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings; He won't serve obscure men.
