1. மாறுபாடான உதடுகளுள்ள மூடனைப்பார்க்கிலும், உத்தமனாய் நடக்கிற தரித்திரனே வாசி.

1. Better a poor man who walks in his integrity than he who is crooked in his ways and rich.

2. ஆத்துமா அறிவில்லாமலிருப்பது நல்லதல்ல; கால் துரிதமானவன் தப்பி நடக்கிறான்.

2. Without knowledge even zeal is not good; and he who acts hastily, blunders.

3. மனுஷனுடைய மதியீனம் அவன் வழியைத் தாறுமாறாக்கும்; என்றாலும் அவன் மனம் கர்த்தருக்கு விரோதமாய்த் தாங்கலடையும்.

3. A man's own folly upsets his way, but his heart is resentful against the LORD.

4. செல்வம் அநேக சிநேகிதரைச் சேர்க்கும்; தரித்திரனோ தன் சிநேகிதனாலும் நெகிழப்படுவான்.

4. Wealth adds many friends, but the friend of the poor man deserts him.

5. பொய்ச்சாட்சிக்காரன் ஆக்கினைக்குத் தப்பான்; பொய்களைப் பேசுகிறவனும் தப்புவதில்லை.

5. The false witness will not go unpunished, and he who utters lies will not escape.

6. பிரபுவின் தயையை அநேகர் வருந்திக் கேட்பார்கள்; கொடைகொடுக்கிறவனுக்கு எவனும் சிநேகிதன்.

6. Many curry favor with a noble; all are friends of the man who has something to give.

7. தரித்திரனை அவனுடைய சகோதரர் எல்லாரும் பகைக்கிறார்களே, எத்தனை அதிகமாய் அவன் சிநேகிதர் அவனுக்குத் தூரமாவார்கள்; அவர்களுடைய வார்த்தைகளை அவன் நாடுகிறான், அவைகளோ வெறும் வார்த்தைகளே.

7. All the poor man's brothers hate him; how much more do his friends shun him!

8. ஞானத்தைப் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளுகிறவன் தன் ஆத்துமாவைச் சிநேகிக்கிறான்; புத்தியைக் காக்கிறவன் நன்மையடைவான்.

8. He who gains intelligence is his own best friend; he who keeps understanding will be successful.

9. பொய்ச்சாட்சிக்காரன் ஆக்கினைக்குத் தப்பான்; பொய்களைப் பேசுகிறவன் நாசமடைவான்.

10. மூடனுக்குச் செல்வம் தகாது; பிரபுக்களை ஆண்டுகொள்வது அடிமைக்கு எவ்வளவும் தகாது.

10. Luxury is not befitting a fool; much less should a slave rule over princes.

11. மனுஷனுடைய விவேகம் அவன் கோபத்தை அடக்கும்; குற்றத்தை மன்னிப்பது அவனுக்கு மகிமை.

11. It is good sense in a man to be slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.

12. ராஜாவின் கோபம் சிங்கத்தின் கெர்ச்சிப்புக்குச் சமானம்; அவனுடைய தயை புல்லின்மேல் பெய்யும் பனிபோலிருக்கும்.

12. The king's wrath is like the roaring of a lion, but his favor, like dew on the grass.

13. மூடனாகிய மகன் தன் தகப்பனுக்கு மிகுந்த துக்கம்; மனைவியின் சண்டைகள் ஓயாத ஒழுக்கு.

13. The foolish son is ruin to his father, and the nagging of a wife is a persistent leak.

14. வீடும் ஆஸ்தியும் பிதாக்கள் வைக்கும் சுதந்தரம்; புத்தியுள்ள மனைவியோ கர்த்தர் அருளும் ஈவு.

14. Home and possessions are an inheritance from parents, but a prudent wife is from the LORD.

15. சோம்பல் தூங்கிவிழப்பண்ணும்; அசதியானவன் பட்டினியாயிருப்பான்.

15. Laziness plunges a man into deep sleep, and the sluggard must go hungry.

16. கட்டளையை காத்துக்கொள்ளுகிறவன் தன் ஆத்துமாவைக் காக்கிறான்; தன் வழிகளை அவமதிக்கிறவன் சாவான்.

16. He who keeps the precept keeps his life, but the despiser of the word will die.

17. ஏழைக்கு இரங்குகிறவன் கர்த்தருக்குக் கடன்கொடுக்கிறான்; அவன் கொடுத்ததை அவர் திரும்பக் கொடுப்பார்.

17. He who has compassion on the poor lends to the LORD, and he will repay him for his good deed.

19. The man of violent temper pays the penalty; even if you rescue him, you will have it to do again.

20. உன் அந்தியகாலத்தில் நீ ஞானமுள்ளவனாயிருக்கும்படி, ஆலோசனையைக்கேட்டு, புத்திமதியை ஏற்றுக்கொள்.

20. Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may eventually become wise.

21. மனுஷனுடைய இருதயத்தின் எண்ணங்கள் அநேகம்; ஆனாலும் கர்த்தருடைய யோசனையே நிலைநிற்கும்.

21. Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the decision of the LORD that endures.

22. நன்மைசெய்ய மனுஷன் கொண்டிருக்கும் ஆசையே தயை; பொய்யனைப் பார்க்கிலும் தரித்திரன் வாசி.

22. From a man's greed comes his shame; rather be a poor man than a liar.

23. கர்த்தருக்குப் பயப்படுதல் ஜீவனுக்கேதுவானது; அதை அடைந்தவன் திருப்தியடைந்து நிலைத்திருப்பான்; தீமை அவனை அணுகாது.

23. The fear of the LORD is an aid to life; one eats and sleeps without being visited by misfortune.

24. சோம்பேறி தன் கையைக் கலத்திலே வைத்து, அதைத் திரும்பத் தன் வாயண்டைக்கு எடுக்காமலிருக்கிறான்.

24. The sluggard loses his hand in the dish; he will not even lift it to his mouth.

25. பரியாசக்காரனை அடி, அப்பொழுது பேதை எச்சரிக்கப்படுவான்; புத்திமானைக் கடிந்துகொள், அவன் அறிவுள்ளவனாவான்.

25. If you beat an arrogant man, the simple learn a lesson; if you rebuke an intelligent man, he gains knowledge.

26. தன் தகப்பனைக் கொள்ளையடித்து, தன் தாயைத் துரத்திவிடுகிறவன், இலச்சையையும் அவமானத்தையும் உண்டாக்குகிற மகன்.

26. He who mistreats his father, or drives away his mother, is a worthless and disgraceful son.

27. என் மகனே, அறிவைத் தரும் வார்த்தைகளை விட்டு விலகச்செய்யும் போதகங்களை நீ கேளாதே.

27. If a son ceases to hear instruction, he wanders from words of knowledge.

28. பேலியாளின் சாட்சிக்காரன் நியாயத்தை நிந்திக்கிறான்; துன்மார்க்கருடைய வாய் அக்கிரமத்தை விழுங்கும்.

28. An unprincipled witness perverts justice, and the mouth of the wicked pours out iniquity.

29. பரியாசக்காரருக்கு தண்டனைகளும், மூடருடைய முதுகுக்கு அடிகளும் ஆயத்தமாயிருக்கிறது.

29. Rods are prepared for the arrogant, and blows for the backs of fools.
