1. யோபு பிரதியுத்தரமாக:

1. And Job made answer and said,

2. என் சஞ்சலம் நிறுக்கப்பட்டு, என் நிர்ப்பந்தம் எல்லாம் தராசிலே வைக்கப்பட்டால் நலமாயிருக்கும்.

2. If only my passion might be measured, and put into the scales against my trouble!

3. அப்பொழுது அது கடற்கரை மணலைப்பார்க்கிலும் பாரமாயிருக்கும்; ஆகையால் என் துக்கம் சொல்லிமுடியாது.

3. For then its weight would be more than the sand of the seas: because of this my words have been uncontrolled.

4. சர்வவல்லவரின் அம்புகள் எனக்குள் தைத்திருக்கிறது; அவைகளின் விஷம் என் உயிரைக் குடிக்கிறது; தேவனால் உண்டாகும் பயங்கரங்கள் எனக்கு முன்பாக அணியணியாய் நிற்கிறது.

4. For the arrows of the Ruler of all are present with me, and their poison goes deep into my spirit: his army of fears is put in order against me.

5. புல்லிருக்கிற இடத்திலே காட்டுக்கழுதை கத்துமோ? தனக்குத் தீவனமிருக்கிற இடத்திலே எருது கதறுமோ?

5. Does the ass of the fields give out his voice when he has grass? or does the ox make sounds over his food?

6. ருசியில்லாத பதார்த்தத்தை உப்பில்லாமல் சாப்பிடக்கூடுமோ? முட்டையின் வெள்ளைக்கருவில் சுவை உண்டோ?

6. Will a man take food which has no taste without salt? or is there any taste in the soft substance of purslain?

7. உங்கள் வார்த்தைகளை என் ஆத்துமா தொடமாட்டேன் என்கிறது; அவைகள் அரோசிகமான போஜனம்போல் இருக்கிறது.

7. My soul has no desire for such things, they are as disease in my food.

8. ஆ, என் மன்றாட்டு எனக்கு அருளப்பட்டு, நான் வாஞ்சிப்பதை தேவன் எனக்குத் தந்து,

8. If only I might have an answer to my prayer, and God would give me my desire!

9. தேவன் என்னை நொறுக்கச் சித்தமாய், தம்முடைய கையை நீட்டி என்னைத் துண்டித்துப்போட்டால் நலமாயிருக்கும்.

9. If only he would be pleased to put an end to me; and would let loose his hand, so that I might be cut off!

10. அப்பொழுதாவது எனக்கு ஆறுதல் இருக்குமே; அப்பொழுது என்னைத் தப்பவிடாத நோவிலே மரத்திருப்பேன்; பரிசுத்தருடைய வார்த்தைகளை நான் மறைத்துவைக்கவில்லை, அவர் என்னைத் தப்பவிடாராக.

10. So I would still have comfort, and I would have joy in the pains of death, for I have not been false to the words of the Holy One.

11. நான் காத்துக்கொண்டிருக்க என் பெலன் எம்மாத்திரம்? என் ஜீவனை நீடித்திருக்கப்பண்ண என் முடிவு எப்படிப்பட்டது?

11. Have I strength to go on waiting, or have I any end to be looking forward to?

12. என் பெலன் கற்களின் பெலனோ? என் மாம்சம் வெண்கலமோ?

12. Is my strength the strength of stones, or is my flesh brass?

13. எனக்கு உதவியானது ஒன்றும் இல்லையல்லவோ? சகாயம் என்னைவிட்டு நீங்கிற்றே.

13. I have no help in myself, and wisdom is completely gone from me.

14. உபாதிக்கப்படுகிறவனுக்கு அவனுடைய சிநேகிதனால் தயை கிடைக்கவேண்டும்; அவனோ சர்வவல்லவருக்குப் பயப்படாதே போகிறான்.

14. He whose heart is shut against his friend has given up the fear of the Ruler of all.

15. என் சகோதரர் காட்டாறுபோல மோசம்பண்ணுகிறார்கள்; ஆறுகளின் வெள்ளத்தைப்போலக் கடந்து போகிறார்கள்.

15. My friends have been false like a stream, like streams in the valleys which come to an end:

16. அவைகள் குளிர்காலப் பனிக்கட்டியினாலும், அதில் விழுந்திருக்கிற உறைந்த மழையினாலும் கலங்கலாகி,

16. Which are dark because of the ice, and the snow falling into them;

17. உஷ்ணங்கண்டவுடனே உருகி வற்றி, அனல்பட்டவுடனே தங்கள் ஸ்தலத்தில் உருவழிந்து போகின்றன.

17. Under the burning sun they are cut off, and come to nothing because of the heat.

18. அவைகளுடைய வழிகளின் போக்குகள் இங்குமங்கும் பிரியும்; அவைகள் விருதாவிலே பரவி ஒன்றும் இல்லாமற்போகும்.

18. The camel-trains go out of their way; they go up into the waste and come to destruction.

19. தேமாவின் பயணக்காரர் தேடி, சேபாவின் பயணக்கூட்டங்கள் அவைகள்மேல் நம்பிக்கை வைத்து,

19. The camel-trains of Tema were searching with care, the bands of Sheba were waiting for them:

20. தாங்கள் இப்படி நம்பினதினாலே வெட்கப்படுகிறார்கள்; அவ்விடமட்டும் வந்து கலங்கிப்போகிறார்கள்.

20. They were put to shame because of their hope; they came and their hope was gone.

21. அப்படியே நீங்களும் இப்பொழுது ஒன்றுக்கும் உதவாமற்போனீர்கள்; என் ஆபத்தைக் கண்டு பயப்படுகிறீர்கள்.

21. So have you now become to me; you see my sad condition and are in fear.

22. எனக்கு ஏதாகிலும் கொண்டு வாருங்கள் என்றும், உங்கள் ஆஸ்தியிலிருந்து எனக்கு யாதொரு வெகுமானம் கொடுங்கள் என்றும்;

22. Did I say, Give me something? or, Make a payment for me out of your wealth?

23. அல்லது சத்துருவின் கைக்கு என்னைத் தப்புவியுங்கள், வல்லடிக்காரரின் கைக்கு என்னை நீங்கலாக்கி மீட்டுவிடுங்கள் என்றும் நான் சொன்னதுண்டோ?

23. Or, Get me out of the power of my hater? or, Give money so that I may be free from the power of the cruel ones?

24. எனக்கு உபதேசம்பண்ணுங்கள், நான் மவுனமாயிருப்பேன்; நான் எதிலே தவறினேனோ அதை எனக்குத் தெரியப்படுத்துங்கள்.

24. Give me teaching and I will be quiet; and make me see my error.

25. செம்மையான வார்த்தைகளில் எவ்வளவு வல்லமை உண்டு? உங்கள் கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலினால் காரியம் என்ன?

25. How pleasing are upright words! but what force is there in your arguments?

26. கடிந்துகொள்ள நீங்கள் வார்த்தைகளை யோசித்து, நம்பிக்கையற்றவனுடைய வார்த்தைகளைக் காற்றிலே விட்டுவிடுகிறீர்களோ?

26. My words may seem wrong to you, but the words of him who has no hope are for the wind.

27. இப்படிச் செய்து திக்கற்றவன்மேல் நீங்கள் விழுந்து, உங்கள் சிநேகிதனுக்குப் படுகுழியை வெட்டுகிறீர்கள்.

27. Truly, you are such as would give up the child of a dead man to his creditors, and would make a profit out of your friend.

28. இப்போதும் உங்களுக்குச் சித்தமானால் என்னை நோக்கிப் பாருங்கள்; அப்பொழுது நான் பொய்சொல்லுகிறேனோ என்று உங்களுக்குப் பிரத்தியட்சமாய் விளங்கும்.

28. Now then, let your eyes be turned to me, for truly I will not say what is false to your face.

29. நீங்கள் திரும்புங்கள்; அக்கிரமம் காணப்படாதிருக்கும்; திரும்புங்கள் என் நீதி அதிலே விளங்கும்.

29. Let your minds be changed, and do not have an evil opinion of me; yes, be changed, for my righteousness is still in me.

30. என் நாவிலே அக்கிரமம் உண்டோ? என் வாய் ஆகாதவைகளைப் பகுத்தறியாதோ?

30. Is there evil in my tongue? is not the cause of my trouble clear to me?
