2. ஞானவான் காற்றைப்போன்ற நியாயங்களைச் சொல்லி, தன் வயிற்றைக் கொண்டல்காற்றினால் நிரப்பி,

2. Should the wise answer with windy knowledge, and fill themselves with the east wind?

3. பிரயோஜனமில்லாத வார்த்தைகளாலும், உபயோகமில்லாத வசனங்களாலும் தர்க்கிக்கலாமோ?

3. Should they argue in unprofitable talk, or in words with which they can do no good?

4. நீர் பயபக்தியை வீணென்று சொல்லி, தேவனுக்கு முன்பாக ஜெபத்தியானத்தைக் குறையப்பண்ணுகிறீர்.

4. But you are doing away with the fear of God, and hindering meditation before God.

5. உம்முடைய வாய் உம்முடைய அக்கிரமத்தைச் சொல்லிக்காட்டுகிறது; நீர் தந்திரமுள்ளவர்களின் நாவைத் தெரிந்துகொண்டீர்.

5. For your iniquity teaches your mouth, and you choose the tongue of the crafty.

6. நான் அல்ல, உம்முடைய வாயே உம்மைக் குற்றவாளி என்று தீர்க்கிறது; உம்முடைய உதடுகளே உமக்கு விரோதமாகச் சாட்சியிடுகிறது.

6. Your own mouth condemns you, and not I; your own lips testify against you.

7. மனுஷரில் முந்திப் பிறந்தவர் நீர் தானோ? பர்வதங்களுக்குமுன்னே உருவாக்கப்பட்டீரோ?

7. Are you the firstborn of the human race? Were you brought forth before the hills?

8. நீர் தேவனுடைய இரகசிய ஆலோசனையைக் கேட்டு, ஞானத்தை உம்மிடமாய்ச் சேர்த்துக்கொண்டீரோ?

8. Have you listened in the council of God? And do you limit wisdom to yourself?

9. நாங்கள் அறியாத எந்தக் காரியத்தை நீர் அறிந்திருக்கிறீர்? எங்களுக்கு விளங்காத எந்தக் காரியமாவது உமக்கு விளங்கியிருக்கிறதோ?

9. What do you know that we do not know? What do you understand that is not clear to us?

10. உம்முடைய தகப்பனைப்பார்க்கிலும் பெரிய வயதுள்ள நரைத்தோரும் விருத்தாப்பியரும் எங்களுக்குள் இருக்கிறார்களே.

10. The gray-haired and the aged are on our side, those older than your father.

11. தேவன் அருளிய ஆறுதல்களும், உம்மோடே சொல்லப்படுகிற மிருதுவான பேச்சும் உமக்கு அற்பகாரியமாயிருக்கிறதோ?

11. Are the consolations of God too small for you, or the word that deals gently with you?

12. உம்முடைய இருதயம் உம்மை எங்கே கொண்டுபோகிறது? உம்முடைய கண்கள் நெறித்துப்பார்க்கிறது என்ன?

12. Why does your heart carry you away, and why do your eyes flash,

13. தேவனுக்கு விரோதமாக உம்முடைய ஆவியை எழுப்பி உம்முடைய வாயிலிருந்து வசனங்களைப் புறப்படப்பண்ணுகிறீர்.

13. so that you turn your spirit against God, and let such words go out of your mouth?

14. மனுஷனானவன் பரிசுத்தமாயிருக்கிறதற்கும், ஸ்திரீயினிடத்தில் பிறந்தவன் நீதிமானாயிருக்கிறதற்கும், அவன் எம்மாத்திரம்?

14. What are mortals, that they can be clean? Or those born of woman, that they can be righteous?

15. இதோ, தம்முடைய பரிசுத்தவான்களையும் அவர் நம்புகிறதில்லை; வானங்களும் அவர் பார்வைக்குச் சுத்தமானவைகள் அல்ல.

15. God puts no trust even in his holy ones, and the heavens are not clean in his sight;

16. அநியாயத்தைத் தண்ணீரைப்போலக் குடிக்கிற மனுஷன் எத்தனை அதிகமாய் அருவருப்பும் அசுத்தமுமாயிருக்கிறான்?

16. how much less one who is abominable and corrupt, one who drinks iniquity like water!

17. உமக்குக் காரியத்தைத் தெரியப்பண்ணுவேன் என்னைக் கேளும்; நான் கண்டதை உமக்கு விவரித்துச் சொல்லுவேன்.

17. I will show you; listen to me; what I have seen I will declare--

18. ஞானிகள் தங்கள் பிதாக்கள் சொல்லக் கேட்டு மறைக்காமல் அறிவித்ததையே நான் சொல்லுவேன்.

18. what sages have told, and their ancestors have not hidden,

19. அவர்களுக்குமாத்திரம் பூமி அளிக்கப்பட்டது; அந்நியர் அவர்கள் நடுவே கடந்துபோக இடமில்லை.

19. to whom alone the land was given, and no stranger passed among them.

20. துன்மார்க்கன் உயிரோடிருக்கிற நாளெல்லாம் துன்பத்தால் வாதிக்கப்படுகிறான்; பலவந்தம்பண்ணுகிறவனுக்கு அவன் வருஷங்களின் தொகை மறைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.

20. The wicked writhe in pain all their days, through all the years that are laid up for the ruthless.

21. பயங்கரமான சத்தம் அவன் காதுகளில் தொனிக்கிறது; அவன் சமாதானமாயிருக்கையில் பாழாக்கிறவன் அவன்மேல் வருவான்.

21. Terrifying sounds are in their ears; in prosperity the destroyer will come upon them.

22. They despair of returning from darkness, and they are destined for the sword.

23. They wander abroad for bread, saying, 'Where is it?' They know that a day of darkness is ready at hand;

24. இக்கட்டும் நெருக்கமும் அவனைக் கலங்கப்பண்ணி, யுத்தசன்னத்தனான ராஜாவைப்போல அவனை மேற்கொள்ளும்.

24. distress and anguish terrify them; they prevail against them, like a king prepared for battle.

25. அவன் தேவனுக்கு விரோதமாகக் கைநீட்டி, சர்வவல்லவருக்கு விரோதமாகப் பராக்கிரமம் பாராட்டுகிறான்.

25. Because they stretched out their hands against God, and bid defiance to the Almighty,

26. கடினக்கழுத்தோடும், பருத்த குமிழுள்ள தன் கேடயங்களோடும் அவருக்கு எதிராக ஓடுகிறான்.

26. running stubbornly against him with a thick-bossed shield;

27. அவன் முகத்தைக் கொழுப்பு மூடியிருக்கிறது; அடிவயிறு தொந்திவிட்டிருக்கிறது.

27. because they have covered their faces with their fat, and gathered fat upon their loins,

28. ஆனாலும் பாழான பட்டணங்களிலும், குடிபோன கற்குவியலான வீடுகளிலும் வாசம்பண்ணுவான்.

28. they will live in desolate cities, in houses that no one should inhabit, houses destined to become heaps of ruins;

29. அவன் ஐசுவரியவானாவதுமில்லை, அவன் ஆஸ்தி நிலைப்பதுமில்லை; அப்படிப்பட்டவர்களின் செல்வம் பூமியில் நீடித்திருப்பதில்லை.

29. they will not be rich, and their wealth will not endure, nor will they strike root in the earth;

30. இருளுக்கு அவன் தப்புவதில்லை; அக்கினி ஜூவாலை அவனுடைய கிளையைக் காய்ந்துபோகப்பண்ணும்; அவருடைய வாயின் சுவாசத்தால் அற்றுப்போவான்;

30. they will not escape from darkness; the flame will dry up their shoots, and their blossom will be swept away by the wind.

31. வழிதப்பினவன் மாயையை நம்பானாக; நம்பினால் மாயையே அவன் பலனாயிருக்கும்.

31. Let them not trust in emptiness, deceiving themselves; for emptiness will be their recompense.

32. அது அவன் நாள் வருமுன்னே அவனுக்குப் பூரணமாய்ப் பலிக்கும்; அவனுடைய கொப்புப் பச்சைகொள்வதில்லை.

32. It will be paid in full before their time, and their branch will not be green.

33. பிஞ்சுகள் உதிர்ந்துபோகிற திராட்சச்செடியைப்போலவும், பூக்கள் உதிர்ந்து போகிற ஒலிவமரத்தைப் போலவும் அவன் இருப்பான்.

33. They will shake off their unripe grape, like the vine, and cast off their blossoms, like the olive tree.

34. மாயக்காரரின் கூட்டம் வெறுமையாய்ப்போகும்; பரிதானம் வாங்கினவர்களின் கூடாரங்களை அக்கினி பட்சிக்கும்.

34. For the company of the godless is barren, and fire consumes the tents of bribery.

35. அப்படிப்பட்டவன் அநியாயத்தைக் கர்ப்பந்தரித்து அக்கிரமத்தைப் பெறுகிறான்; அவர்கள் கர்ப்பம் மாயையைப் பிறப்பிக்கும் என்றான்.

35. They conceive mischief and bring forth evil and their heart prepares deceit.
