1. கீலேயாத்தின் குடிகளிலே திஸ்பியனாகிய எலியா ஆகாபை நோக்கி: என் வாக்கின்படியே அன்றி இந்த வருஷங்களிலே பனியும் மழையும் பெய்யாதிருக்கும் என்று இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்கு முன்பாக நிற்கிற நான் அவருடைய ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான்.

1. And Elijah the prophet, the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, As the Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be these years dew nor rain, except by the word of my mouth.

2. பின்பு கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தை அவனுக்கு உண்டாயிற்று, அவர்:

2. And the word of the Lord came to Elijah, [saying],

3. நீ இவ்விடத்தை விட்டுக் கீழ்த்திசையை நோக்கிப் போய், யோர்தானுக்கு நேராயிருக்கிற கேரீத் ஆற்றண்டையில் ஒளித்துக்கொண்டிரு.

3. Depart from here eastward, and hide yourself by the Brook of Cherith, that is before the Jordan.

4. அந்த ஆற்றின் தண்ணீரைக் குடிப்பாய்; அங்கே உன்னைப் போஷிக்க, காகங்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிடுவேன் என்றார்.

4. And it shall be [that] you shall drink water of the brook, and I will command the ravens to feed you there.

5. அவன் போய், கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தையின்படியே யோர்தானுக்கு நேராயிருக்கிற கேரீத் ஆற்றண்டையிலே தங்கியிருந்தான்.

5. And Elijah did according to the word of the Lord, and he sat by the Brook of Cherith before the Jordan.

6. காகங்கள் அவனுக்கு விடியற்காலத்தில் அப்பமும் இறைச்சியும், சாயங்காலத்தில் அப்பமும் இறைச்சியும் கொண்டு வந்தது; தாகத்திற்கு அந்த ஆற்றின் தண்ணீரைக் குடித்தான்.

6. And the ravens brought him loaves in the morning, and flesh in the evening, and he drank water out of the brook.

7. தேசத்தில் மழை பெய்யாதபடியினால், சில நாளுக்குப்பின்பு அந்த ஆறு வற்றிப்போயிற்று.

7. And it came to pass after some time, that the brook was dried up, because there had been no rain upon the earth.

8. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தை அவனுக்கு உண்டாயிற்று, அவர்:

8. And the word of the Lord came to Elijah, [saying],

9. நீ எழுந்து, சீதோனுக்கடுத்த சாறிபாத் ஊருக்குப்போய், அங்கே தங்கியிரு; உன்னைப் பராமரிக்கும்படி அங்கே இருக்கிற ஒரு விதவைக்கு கட்டளையிட்டேன் என்றார்.

9. Arise, and go to Zarephath of the Sidonians; behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to provide for you.

10. அப்படியே அவன் எழுந்து, சாறிபாத்துக்குப் போனான்; அந்தப் பட்டணத்தின் ஒலிமுகவாசலுக்கு அவன் வந்தபோது, அங்கே ஒரு விதவை விறகு பொறுக்கிக்கொண்டிருந்தாள்; அவன் அவளைப் பார்த்துக் கூப்பிட்டு, நான் குடிக்கிறதற்குக் கொஞ்சம் தண்ணீர் ஒரு பாத்திரத்தில் எனக்குக் கொண்டுவா என்றான்.

10. And he arose and went to Zarephath, and came to the gate of the city. And behold, a widow woman was there gathering sticks. And Elijah cried after her, and said to her, Fetch me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

11. கொண்டுவர அவள் போகிறபோது அவன் அவளை நோக்கிக் கூப்பிட்டு, கொஞ்சம் அப்பமும் உன் கையிலே எனக்குக் கொண்டுவா என்றான்.

11. And she went to fetch it; and Elijah cried after her and said, Bring me the morsel of the bread that is in your hand.

12. அதற்கு அவள்: பானையில் ஒரு பிடி மாவும் கலயத்தில் கொஞ்சம் எண்ணெயுமே அல்லாமல், என்னிடத்தில் ஒரு அடையும் இல்லையென்று உம்முடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருடைய ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன்; இதோ, நானும் என் குமாரனும் சாப்பிட்டுச் செத்துப்போக, அதை எனக்கும் அவனுக்கும் ஆயத்தப்படுத்துகிறதற்கு இரண்டு விறகு பொறுக்குகிறேன் என்றாள்.

12. And the woman said, [As] the Lord your God lives, I have not a cake, but only a handful of meal in this pitcher, and a little oil in a jar; and behold, I am going to gather two sticks, and I shall go in and dress it for myself and my children, and we shall eat it and die.

13. அப்பொழுது எலியா அவளைப் பார்த்து: பயப்படாதே; நீ போய் உன் வார்த்தையின்படி ஆயத்தப்படுத்து; ஆனாலும் முதல் அதிலே எனக்கு ஒரு சிறிய அடையைப் பண்ணி என்னிடத்தில் கொண்டுவா; பின்பு உனக்கும் உன் குமாரனுக்கும் பண்ணலாம்.

13. And Elijah said to her, Be of good courage, go in and do according to your word; but make me a little cake from it first, and you shall bring [it] out to me, and you shall make [some] for yourself and your children last.

14. கர்த்தர் தேசத்தின்மேல் மழையைக் கட்டளையிடும் நாள்மட்டும் பானையின் மா செலவழிந்துபோவதும் இல்லை; கலசத்தின் எண்ணெய் குறைந்துபோவதும் இல்லை என்று இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார் என்றான்.

14. For thus says the Lord: The pitcher of meal shall not fail, and the jar of oil shall not diminish, until the day that the Lord gives rain upon the earth.

15. அவள் போய், எலியாவின் சொற்படி செய்தாள்; அவளும், இவனும், அவள் வீட்டாரும் அநேகநாள் சாப்பிட்டார்கள்.

15. And the woman went and did [so], and did eat, she, and he, and her children.

16. கர்த்தர் எலியாவைக்கொண்டு சொன்ன வார்த்தையின்படியே, பானையிலே மா செலவழிந்துபோகவும் இல்லை; கலசத்தின் எண்ணெய் குறைந்துபோகவும் இல்லை.

16. And the pitcher of meal failed not, and the jar of oil was not diminished, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke by the hand of Elijah.

17. இவைகள் நடந்தபின்பு, வீட்டுக்காரியாகிய அந்த ஸ்திரீயின் மகன் வியாதியில் விழுந்தான்; அவனுடைய சுவாசம் போகுமட்டும் அவனுடைய வியாதி அதிகரித்துக்கொண்டே இருந்தது.

17. And it came to pass afterward, that the son of the woman the mistress of the house was sick; and his sickness was very severe, until there was no breath left in him.

18. அப்பொழுது அவள் எலியாவை நோக்கி: தேவனுடைய மனுஷனே, எனக்கும் உமக்கும் என்ன? என் அக்கிரமத்தை நினைக்கப்பண்ணவும், என் குமாரனைச் சாகப்பண்ணவுமா? என்னிடத்தில் வந்தீர் என்றாள்.

18. And she said to Elijah, What have I to do with you, O man of God? Have you come in to me to bring my sins to remembrance, and to slay my son?

19. அதற்கு அவன்: உன் குமாரனை என்னிடத்தில் தா என்று சொல்லி, அவனை அவள் மடியிலிருந்து எடுத்து, தான் தங்கியிருக்கிற மேல்வீட்டிலே அவனைக் கொண்டுபோய், தன் கட்டிலின்மேல் வைத்து:

19. And Elijah said to the woman, Give me your son. And he took him out of her bosom, and took him up to the chamber in which he himself lodged, and laid him on the bed.

20. என் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தாவே, நான் தங்கியிருக்க இடங்கொடுத்த இந்த விதவையின் மகனைச் சாகப்பண்ணினதினால் அவளுக்குத் துக்கத்தை வருவித்தீரோ என்று கர்த்தரை நோக்கிக் கூப்பிட்டு;

20. And Elijah cried aloud and said, Alas, O Lord, the witness of the widow with whom I sojourn, You have brought tragedy [for her] in slaying her son.

21. அந்தப் பிள்ளையின்மேல் மூன்று தரம் குப்புறவிழுந்து: என் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தாவே, இந்தப் பிள்ளையின் ஆத்துமா அவனுக்குள் திரும்பி வரப்பண்ணும் என்று கர்த்தரை நோக்கி விண்ணப்பம் பண்ணினான்.

21. And he breathed on the child three times, and called on the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, let the soul of this child return to him, I pray.

22. கர்த்தர் எலியாவின் சத்தத்தைக் கேட்டார்; பிள்ளையினுடைய ஆத்துமா அவனுள் திரும்பிவந்தது; அவன் பிழைத்தான்.

22. And it was so, and the child cried out,

23. அப்பொழுது எலியா பிள்ளையை எடுத்து, மேல்வீட்டிலிருந்து அவனைக் கீழ்வீட்டிற்குள் கொண்டுவந்து, அவனை அவன் தாயினிடத்தில் கொடுத்து: பார் உன் பிள்ளை உயிரோடிருக்கிறான் என்று சொன்னான்.

23. and he brought him down from the upper chamber into the house, and gave him to his mother. And Elijah said, See, your son lives.

24. அப்பொழுது அந்த ஸ்திரீ எலியாவை நோக்கி: நீர் தேவனுடைய மனுஷன் என்றும், உம்முடைய வாயிலிருந்து பிறக்கும் கர்த்தரின் வார்த்தை உண்மை என்றும், இதினால் இப்போது அறிந்திருக்கிறேன் என்றாள்.

24. And the woman said to Elijah, Behold, I know that you [are] a man of God, and the word of the Lord in your mouth [is] true.
