1. தாவீதின் நாட்களில் மூன்று வருஷம் ஓயாத பஞ்சம் உண்டாயிருந்தது; அப்பொழுது தாவீது கர்த்தருடைய சமுகத்தில் விசாரித்தான். கர்த்தர்: கிபியோனியரைக் கொன்றுபோட்ட சவுலுக்காகவும், இரத்தப்பிரியரான அவன் வீட்டாருக்காகவும் இது உண்டாயிற்று என்றார்.

1. And there is a famine in the days of David three years, year after year, and David seeketh the face of Jehovah, and Jehovah saith, 'For Saul and for the bloody house, because that he put to death the Gibeonites.'

2. அப்பொழுது ராஜா: கிபியோனியரை அழைப்பித்தான்; கிபியோனியரோ, இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரராயிராமல் எமோரியரில் மீதியாயிருந்தவர்கள்; அவர்களுக்கு இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் ஆணையிட்டிருந்தும், சவுல் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்காகவும், யூதாவுக்காகவும் காண்பித்த வைராக்கியத்தினால் அவர்களை வெட்ட வகைதேடினான்.

2. And the king calleth for the Gibeonites, and saith unto them -- as to the Gibeonites, they [are] not of the sons of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorite, and the sons of Israel had sworn to them, and Saul seeketh to smite them in his zeal for the sons of Israel and Judah --

3. ஆகையால் தாவீது கிபியோனியரைப் பார்த்து: நான் உங்களுக்குச் செய்யவேண்டியது என்ன? நீங்கள் கர்த்தருடைய சுதந்தரத்தை ஆசீர்வதிக்கும்படிக்கு, நான் செய்யவேண்டிய பிராயச்சித்தம் என்ன என்று கேட்டான்.

3. yea, David saith unto the Gibeonites, 'What do I do for you? and with what do I make atonement? and bless ye the inheritance of Jehovah.'

4. அப்பொழுது கிபியோனியர் அவனைப் பார்த்து: சவுலோடும் அவன் வீட்டாரோடும் எங்களுக்கு இருக்கிற காரியத்திற்காக எங்களுக்கு வெள்ளியும் பொன்னும் தேவையில்லை; இஸ்ரவேலில் ஒருவனைக் கொன்றுபோடவேண்டும் என்பதும் எங்கள் விருப்பம் அல்ல என்றார்கள். அப்பொழுது அவன்: அப்படியானால், நான் உங்களுக்கு என்ன செய்யவேண்டும் என்று சொல்லுகிறீர்கள் என்று கேட்டான்.

4. And the Gibeonites say to him, 'We have no silver and gold by Saul and by his house, and we have no man to put to death in Israel;' and he saith, 'What ye are saying I do to you.'

5. அவர்கள் ராஜாவை நோக்கி: நாங்கள் இஸ்ரவேலின் எல்லையிலெங்கும் நிலைக்காதபடிக்கு, அழிந்துபோக எவன் எங்களை நிர்மூலமாக்கி எங்களுக்குப் பொல்லாப்புச் செய்ய நினைத்தானோ,

5. And they say unto the king, 'The man who consumed us, and who devised against us -- we have been destroyed from stationing ourselves in all the border of Israel --

6. அவன் குமாரரில் ஏழுபேர் கர்த்தர் தெரிந்துகொண்ட சவுலின் ஊராகிய கிபியாவிலே நாங்கள் அவர்களைக் கர்த்தருக்கென்று தூக்கிப்போட, எங்களுக்கு ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கப்படவேண்டும் என்றார்கள். நான் அவர்களை ஒப்புக்கொடுப்பேன் என்று ராஜா சொன்னான்.

6. let there be given to us seven men of his sons, and we have hanged them before Jehovah, in the height of Saul, the chosen of Jehovah.' And the king saith, 'I do give;'

7. ஆனாலும் தாவீதும் சவுலின் குமாரனாகிய யோனத்தானும் கர்த்தரைக் கொண்டு இட்ட ஆணையினிமித்தம், ராஜா சவுலின் குமாரனாகிய யோனத்தானின் மகன் மேவிபோசேத்தைத் தப்பவிட்டு,

7. and the king hath pity on Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, son of Saul, because of the oath of Jehovah that [is] between them, between David and Jonathan son of Saul;

8. ஆயாவின் குமாரத்தியாகிய ரிஸ்பாள் சவுலுக்குப் பெற்ற அவளுடைய இரண்டு குமாரராகிய அர்மோனியையும், மேவிபோசேத்தையும், சவுலின் குமாரத்தியாகிய மேரப் மேகோலாத்தியனான பர்சிலாவின் குமாரனாகிய ஆதரியேலுக்குப் பெற்ற அவளுடைய ஐந்து குமாரரையும் பிடித்து,

8. and the king taketh the two sons of Rizpah daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth, and the five sons of Michal daughter of Saul whom she bare to Adriel son of Barzillai the Meholathite,

9. அவர்களைக் கிபியோனியர் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தான்; அவர்களைக் கர்த்தருடைய சமுகத்தில் மலையின்மேல் தூக்கிப்போட்டார்கள்; அப்படியே அவர்கள் ஏழுபேரும் ஒருமிக்க விழுந்தார்கள்; வாற்கோதுமை அறுப்பு துவக்குகிற அறுப்புக்காலத்தின் முந்தின நாட்களிலே அவர்கள் கொன்று போடப்பட்டார்கள்.

9. and giveth them into the hand of the Gibeonites, and they hang them in the hill before Jehovah; and the seven fall together, and they have been put to death in the days of harvest, in the first [days], the commencement of barley-harvest.

10. அப்பொழுது ஆயாவின் குமாரத்தியாகிய ரிஸ்பாள் இரட்டுப்புடவையை எடுத்துக்கொண்டுபோய், அதைப் பாறையின்மேல் விரித்து, அறுப்புநாளின் துவக்கம் முதற்கொண்டு வானத்திலிருந்து அவர்கள்மேல் மழை பெய்யுமட்டும் பகலில் ஆகாயத்துப் பறவைகளாகிலும் இரவில் காட்டுமிருகங்களாகிலும் அவர்கள்மேல் விழவொட்டாதிருந்தாள்.

10. And Rizpah daughter of Aiah taketh the sackcloth, and stretcheth it out for herself on the rock, from the commencement of harvest till water hath been poured out upon them from the heavens, and hath not suffered a fowl of the heavens to rest upon them by day, or the beast of the field by night.

11. ஆயாவின் குமாரத்தியாகிய ரிஸ்பாள் என்னும் சவுலின் மறுமனையாட்டி செய்தது தாவீதுக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டபோது,

11. And it is declared to David that which Rizpah daughter of Aiah, concubine of Saul, hath done,

12. தாவீது போய், பெலிஸ்தர் கில்போவாவிலே சவுலை வெட்டினபோது, பெத்சானின் வீதியிலே தூக்கிப்போடப்பட்டதும், கீலேயாத்திலுள்ள யாபேஸ் பட்டணத்தார் அங்கே போய்த் திருட்டளவாய்க் கொண்டுவந்ததுமான சவுலின் எலும்புகளையும், அவன் குமாரனான யோனத்தானின் எலும்புகளையும், அவர்களிடத்திலிருந்து எடுத்து,

12. and David goeth and taketh the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, from the possessors of Jabesh-Gilead, who had stolen them from the broad place of Beth-Shan, where the Philistines hanged them, in the day of the Philistines smiting Saul in Gilboa;

13. அங்கே இருந்து அவைகளைக் கொண்டுவந்து, தூக்கிப்போடப்பட்டவர்களின் எலும்புகளையும் அவைகளோடே சேர்த்து,

13. and he bringeth up thence the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, and they gather the bones of those hanged,

14. சவுலின் எலும்புகளையும் அவன் குமாரனாகிய யோனத்தானின் எலும்புகளையும், பென்யமீன் தேசத்துச் சேலா ஊரிலிருக்கிற அவன் தகப்பனாகிய கீசின் கல்லறையில் அடக்கம்பண்ணுவித்தான்; ராஜா கட்டளையிட்டபடியெல்லாம் செய்தார்கள்; அதற்குப்பின்பு தேவன் தேசத்திற்காகச் செய்யப்பட்ட வேண்டுதலைக் கேட்டருளினார்.

14. and bury the bones of Saul and of Jonathan his son in the land of Benjamin, in Zelah, in the burying-place of Kish his father, and do all that the king commanded, and God is entreated for the land afterwards.

15. பின்பு பெலிஸ்தர் இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் யுத்தம்செய்தார்கள்; அப்பொழுது தாவீதும் அவனோடேகூட அவன் சேவகரும் போய், பெலிஸ்தரோடு யுத்தம்பண்ணினார்கள்; தாவீது விடாய்த்துப்போனான்.

15. And again have the Philistines war with Israel, and David goeth down, and his servants with him, and they fight with the Philistines; and David is weary,

16. அப்பொழுது முந்நூறு சேக்கல் நிறை வெண்கலமான ஈட்டியைப் பிடிக்கிறவனும், புதுப்பட்டயத்தை அரையிலே கட்டிக்கொண்டவனுமான இஸ்பிபெனோப் என்னும் இராட்சத புத்திரரில் ஒருவன் தாவீதை வெட்டவேண்டும் என்று இருந்தான்.

16. and Ishbi-Benob, who [is] among the children of the giant -- the weight of his spear [is] three hundred [shekels] weight of brass, and he is girded with a new one -- speaketh of smiting David,

17. செருயாவின் குமாரனாகிய அபிசாய் ராஜாவுக்கு உதவியாக வந்து, பெலிஸ்தனை வெட்டிக் கொன்றுபோட்டான். அப்பொழுது தாவீதின் மனுஷர்: இஸ்ரவேலின் விளக்கு அணைந்துபோகாதபடிக்கு, நீர் இனி எங்களோடே யுத்தத்திற்குப் புறப்படவேண்டாம் என்று அவனுக்கு ஆணையிட்டுச் சொன்னார்கள்.

17. and Abishai son of Zeruiah giveth help to him, and smiteth the Philistine, and putteth him to death; then swear the men of David to him, saying, 'Thou dost not go out again with us to battle, nor quench the lamp of Israel.'

18. அதற்குப் பின்பு பெலிஸ்தரோடே திரும்பவும் கோபிலே யுத்தம்நடந்தது; ஊசாத்தியனாகிய சீபேக்காய் இராட்சத சந்ததியான சாப்பை வெட்டிப்போட்டான்.

18. And it cometh to pass afterwards, that the battle is again in Gob with the Philistines, then hath Sibbechai the Hushathite smitten Saph, who [is] among the children of the giant.

19. பெலிஸ்தரோடு இன்னும் வேறொரு யுத்தம் கோபிலே உண்டானபோது, யாரெயொர்கிமின் குமாரனாகிய எல்க்கானான் என்னும் பெத்லகேமியன் காத் ஊரானாகிய கோலியாத்தின் சகோதரனை வெட்டினான்; அவன் ஈட்டித் தாங்கானது நெய்கிறவர்களின் படைமரம் அவ்வளவு பெரிதாயிருந்தது.

19. And the battle is again in Gob with the Philistines, and Elhanan son of Jaare-Oregim, the Beth-Lehemite, smiteth [a brother of] Goliath the Gittite, and the wood of his spear [is] like a beam of weavers.

20. இன்னும் ஒரு யுத்தம் காத் ஊரிலே நடந்தபோது, அங்கே நெட்டையனான ஒரு மனுஷன் இருந்தான்; அவன் கைகளில் அவ்வாறு விரல்களும் அவன் கால்களில் அவ்வாறு விரல்களும், ஆக இருபத்து நான்கு விரல்களுள்ளவன்; இவனும் இராட்சத பிறவியாயிருந்து,

20. And the battle is again in Gath, and there is a man of stature, and the fingers of his hands [are] six, and the toes of his feet [are] six, twenty and four in number, and he also hath been born to the giant,

21. இஸ்ரவேலை நிந்தித்தான்; தாவீதின் சகோதரனான சீமேயாவின் குமாரனாகிய யோனத்தான் அவனை வெட்டினான்.

21. and he reproacheth Israel, and smite him doth Jonathan son of Shimeah, brother of David;

22. இந்த நாலுபேரும் காத்தூரிலே இராட்சதனுக்குப் பிறந்தவர்கள்; இவர்கள் தாவீதின் கையினாலும் அவன் சேவகரின் கையினாலும் மடிந்தார்கள்.

22. these four have been born to the giant in Gath, and they fall by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
