1. தாவீதின் நாட்களில் மூன்று வருஷம் ஓயாத பஞ்சம் உண்டாயிருந்தது; அப்பொழுது தாவீது கர்த்தருடைய சமுகத்தில் விசாரித்தான். கர்த்தர்: கிபியோனியரைக் கொன்றுபோட்ட சவுலுக்காகவும், இரத்தப்பிரியரான அவன் வீட்டாருக்காகவும் இது உண்டாயிற்று என்றார்.

1. And there was a famine in the days of David, three years, year after year. And David sought the face of Jehovah. And Jehovah said, It is for Saul and for his bloody house, because he killed the Gibeonites.

2. அப்பொழுது ராஜா: கிபியோனியரை அழைப்பித்தான்; கிபியோனியரோ, இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரராயிராமல் எமோரியரில் மீதியாயிருந்தவர்கள்; அவர்களுக்கு இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் ஆணையிட்டிருந்தும், சவுல் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்காகவும், யூதாவுக்காகவும் காண்பித்த வைராக்கியத்தினால் அவர்களை வெட்ட வகைதேடினான்.

2. And the king called for the Gibeonites and said to them (as to the Gibeonites, they were not of the sons of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites, and the sons of Israel had sworn to them) and Saul sought to strike them in his zeal for the sons of Israel and Judah.

3. ஆகையால் தாவீது கிபியோனியரைப் பார்த்து: நான் உங்களுக்குச் செய்யவேண்டியது என்ன? நீங்கள் கர்த்தருடைய சுதந்தரத்தை ஆசீர்வதிக்கும்படிக்கு, நான் செய்யவேண்டிய பிராயச்சித்தம் என்ன என்று கேட்டான்.

3. And David said to the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? And with what shall I atone, and you bless the inheritance of Jehovah?

4. அப்பொழுது கிபியோனியர் அவனைப் பார்த்து: சவுலோடும் அவன் வீட்டாரோடும் எங்களுக்கு இருக்கிற காரியத்திற்காக எங்களுக்கு வெள்ளியும் பொன்னும் தேவையில்லை; இஸ்ரவேலில் ஒருவனைக் கொன்றுபோடவேண்டும் என்பதும் எங்கள் விருப்பம் அல்ல என்றார்கள். அப்பொழுது அவன்: அப்படியானால், நான் உங்களுக்கு என்ன செய்யவேண்டும் என்று சொல்லுகிறீர்கள் என்று கேட்டான்.

4. And the Gibeonites said to him, We will have neither silver nor gold by Saul and by his house. Also, we will have no man in Israel put to death. And he said, What you say, I will do for you.

5. அவர்கள் ராஜாவை நோக்கி: நாங்கள் இஸ்ரவேலின் எல்லையிலெங்கும் நிலைக்காதபடிக்கு, அழிந்துபோக எவன் எங்களை நிர்மூலமாக்கி எங்களுக்குப் பொல்லாப்புச் செய்ய நினைத்தானோ,

5. And they said to the king, The man who destroyed us and schemed against us that we be wasted from standing in all the border of Israel was Saul.

6. அவன் குமாரரில் ஏழுபேர் கர்த்தர் தெரிந்துகொண்ட சவுலின் ஊராகிய கிபியாவிலே நாங்கள் அவர்களைக் கர்த்தருக்கென்று தூக்கிப்போட, எங்களுக்கு ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கப்படவேண்டும் என்றார்கள். நான் அவர்களை ஒப்புக்கொடுப்பேன் என்று ராஜா சொன்னான்.

6. Let be given to us seven men of his sons to us. And we will expose them to Jehovah in Gibeah of Saul, the chosen of Jehovah. And the king said, I will deliver them.

7. ஆனாலும் தாவீதும் சவுலின் குமாரனாகிய யோனத்தானும் கர்த்தரைக் கொண்டு இட்ட ஆணையினிமித்தம், ராஜா சவுலின் குமாரனாகிய யோனத்தானின் மகன் மேவிபோசேத்தைத் தப்பவிட்டு,

7. But the king spared Jonathan's son Mephibosheth the son of Saul because of the oath of Jehovah that was between them, between David and Jonathan, the son of Saul.

8. ஆயாவின் குமாரத்தியாகிய ரிஸ்பாள் சவுலுக்குப் பெற்ற அவளுடைய இரண்டு குமாரராகிய அர்மோனியையும், மேவிபோசேத்தையும், சவுலின் குமாரத்தியாகிய மேரப் மேகோலாத்தியனான பர்சிலாவின் குமாரனாகிய ஆதரியேலுக்குப் பெற்ற அவளுடைய ஐந்து குமாரரையும் பிடித்து,

8. And the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth. And he took the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she bore to Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite.

9. அவர்களைக் கிபியோனியர் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தான்; அவர்களைக் கர்த்தருடைய சமுகத்தில் மலையின்மேல் தூக்கிப்போட்டார்கள்; அப்படியே அவர்கள் ஏழுபேரும் ஒருமிக்க விழுந்தார்கள்; வாற்கோதுமை அறுப்பு துவக்குகிற அறுப்புக்காலத்தின் முந்தின நாட்களிலே அவர்கள் கொன்று போடப்பட்டார்கள்.

9. And he gave them into the hands of the Gibeonites. And they exposed them in the mountain before Jehovah. And the seven fell together. And they were executed in the days of harvest, in the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest.

10. அப்பொழுது ஆயாவின் குமாரத்தியாகிய ரிஸ்பாள் இரட்டுப்புடவையை எடுத்துக்கொண்டுபோய், அதைப் பாறையின்மேல் விரித்து, அறுப்புநாளின் துவக்கம் முதற்கொண்டு வானத்திலிருந்து அவர்கள்மேல் மழை பெய்யுமட்டும் பகலில் ஆகாயத்துப் பறவைகளாகிலும் இரவில் காட்டுமிருகங்களாகிலும் அவர்கள்மேல் விழவொட்டாதிருந்தாள்.

10. And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth and stretched it out for herself on the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water poured on them out of the heavens. And she did not allow a bird of the heavens to rest on them by day nor the beast of the field by night.

11. ஆயாவின் குமாரத்தியாகிய ரிஸ்பாள் என்னும் சவுலின் மறுமனையாட்டி செய்தது தாவீதுக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டபோது,

11. And that which Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, Saul's concubine, had done was told to David.

12. தாவீது போய், பெலிஸ்தர் கில்போவாவிலே சவுலை வெட்டினபோது, பெத்சானின் வீதியிலே தூக்கிப்போடப்பட்டதும், கீலேயாத்திலுள்ள யாபேஸ் பட்டணத்தார் அங்கே போய்த் திருட்டளவாய்க் கொண்டுவந்ததுமான சவுலின் எலும்புகளையும், அவன் குமாரனான யோனத்தானின் எலும்புகளையும், அவர்களிடத்திலிருந்து எடுத்து,

12. And David went and took the bones of Saul, and the bones of his son Jonathan from the rulers of Jabesh-gilead, who had stolen them from the plaza of Beth-shan, there where the Philistines hanged them in the day the Philistines struck Saul in Gilboa.

13. அங்கே இருந்து அவைகளைக் கொண்டுவந்து, தூக்கிப்போடப்பட்டவர்களின் எலும்புகளையும் அவைகளோடே சேர்த்து,

13. And he brought up the bones of Saul and the bones of his son Jonathan from there, and they gathered up the bones of those hanged.

14. சவுலின் எலும்புகளையும் அவன் குமாரனாகிய யோனத்தானின் எலும்புகளையும், பென்யமீன் தேசத்துச் சேலா ஊரிலிருக்கிற அவன் தகப்பனாகிய கீசின் கல்லறையில் அடக்கம்பண்ணுவித்தான்; ராஜா கட்டளையிட்டபடியெல்லாம் செய்தார்கள்; அதற்குப்பின்பு தேவன் தேசத்திற்காகச் செய்யப்பட்ட வேண்டுதலைக் கேட்டருளினார்.

14. And they buried the bones of Saul and of his son Jonathan in the land of Benjamin, in Zelah, in the burying place of his father Kish, and did all that the king had commanded. And afterward God heard prayer for the land.

15. பின்பு பெலிஸ்தர் இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் யுத்தம்செய்தார்கள்; அப்பொழுது தாவீதும் அவனோடேகூட அவன் சேவகரும் போய், பெலிஸ்தரோடு யுத்தம்பண்ணினார்கள்; தாவீது விடாய்த்துப்போனான்.

15. And again the Philistines warred with Israel. And David went down, and his servants with him. And they fought with the Philistines. And David was weary.

16. அப்பொழுது முந்நூறு சேக்கல் நிறை வெண்கலமான ஈட்டியைப் பிடிக்கிறவனும், புதுப்பட்டயத்தை அரையிலே கட்டிக்கொண்டவனுமான இஸ்பிபெனோப் என்னும் இராட்சத புத்திரரில் ஒருவன் தாவீதை வெட்டவேண்டும் என்று இருந்தான்.

16. And Ishbibenob, who was of the sons of Rapha the giant, the weight of his spear being three hundred bronze shekels in weight, and was girded with a new sword, even he said to strike David.

17. செருயாவின் குமாரனாகிய அபிசாய் ராஜாவுக்கு உதவியாக வந்து, பெலிஸ்தனை வெட்டிக் கொன்றுபோட்டான். அப்பொழுது தாவீதின் மனுஷர்: இஸ்ரவேலின் விளக்கு அணைந்துபோகாதபடிக்கு, நீர் இனி எங்களோடே யுத்தத்திற்குப் புறப்படவேண்டாம் என்று அவனுக்கு ஆணையிட்டுச் சொன்னார்கள்.

17. And Abishai the son of Zeruiah helped him, and struck the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David swore to him, saying, You shall not again go out with us to battle, that you not cause the lamp of Israel to go out.

18. அதற்குப் பின்பு பெலிஸ்தரோடே திரும்பவும் கோபிலே யுத்தம்நடந்தது; ஊசாத்தியனாகிய சீபேக்காய் இராட்சத சந்ததியான சாப்பை வெட்டிப்போட்டான்.

18. And it happened after this that the battle was again in Gob of the Philistines. Then Sibbechai the Hushathite struck Saph, who was among the sons of Rapha.

19. பெலிஸ்தரோடு இன்னும் வேறொரு யுத்தம் கோபிலே உண்டானபோது, யாரெயொர்கிமின் குமாரனாகிய எல்க்கானான் என்னும் பெத்லகேமியன் காத் ஊரானாகிய கோலியாத்தின் சகோதரனை வெட்டினான்; அவன் ஈட்டித் தாங்கானது நெய்கிறவர்களின் படைமரம் அவ்வளவு பெரிதாயிருந்தது.

19. And again the battle was in Gob with the Philistines, and Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim the Bethlehemite struck one of Goliath the Gittite, and the wood of his spear was like a weaver's beam.

20. இன்னும் ஒரு யுத்தம் காத் ஊரிலே நடந்தபோது, அங்கே நெட்டையனான ஒரு மனுஷன் இருந்தான்; அவன் கைகளில் அவ்வாறு விரல்களும் அவன் கால்களில் அவ்வாறு விரல்களும், ஆக இருபத்து நான்கு விரல்களுள்ளவன்; இவனும் இராட்சத பிறவியாயிருந்து,

20. And again the battle was in Gath, and there was a man of stature, and the fingers of his hands were six, and the fingers of his feet six, twenty four in number. And he also had been born to Rapha.

21. இஸ்ரவேலை நிந்தித்தான்; தாவீதின் சகோதரனான சீமேயாவின் குமாரனாகிய யோனத்தான் அவனை வெட்டினான்.

21. And he cursed Israel; and Jonathan, the son of David's brother Shimeah, struck him.

22. இந்த நாலுபேரும் காத்தூரிலே இராட்சதனுக்குப் பிறந்தவர்கள்; இவர்கள் தாவீதின் கையினாலும் அவன் சேவகரின் கையினாலும் மடிந்தார்கள்.

22. These four here born to Rapha the giant in Gath. And they fell by the hand of David, by the hand of his servants.
