1. இதற்குப்பின்பு, அப்சலோம் இரதங்களையும் குதிரைகளையும், தனக்கு முன் ஓட ஐம்பது சேவகரையும் சம்பாதித்தான்.

1. Now after this, Absalom got for himself a carriage and horses, and fifty runners to go before him.

2. மேலும் அப்சலோம் காலைதோறும் எழுந்திருந்து, பட்டணத்து வாசலுக்குப் போகிற வழி ஓரத்திலே நின்றுகொண்டு, எவனாகிலும் தனக்கு இருக்கிற வழக்கு முகாந்தரமாய் ராஜாவினிடத்தில் நியாயத்திற்காகப் போகும்போது, அவனை அழைத்து, நீ எந்த ஊரான் என்று கேட்பான்; அவன் உமது அடியான் இஸ்ரவேல் கோத்திரங்களில் ஒன்றுக்கடுத்த இன்ன ஊரான் என்றால்,

2. And Absalom got up early, morning after morning, and took his place at the side of the public meeting-place: and when any man had a cause which had to come to the king to be judged, then Absalom, crying out to him, said, What is your town? and he would say, Your servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.

3. அப்பொழுது அப்சலோம் அவனை நோக்கி: இதோ, உன் காரியம் நேர்மையும் நியாயமுமாயிருக்கிறது; ஆனாலும் ராஜாவினிடத்திலே உன் காரியத்தை விசாரிப்பார் ஒருவரும் இல்லை என்பான்.

3. And Absalom would say to him, See, your cause is true and right; but no man has been named by the king to give you a hearing.

4. பின்னும் அப்சலோம்: வழக்கு வியாஜ்யமுள்ளவர்கள் எல்லாரும் என்னிடத்தில் வந்து, நான் அவர்களுக்கு நியாயஞ்செய்யும்படிக்கு, என்னை தேசத்திலே நியாயாதிபதியாக வைத்தால் நலமாயிருக்கும் என்பான்.

4. And more than this, Absalom said, If only I was made judge in the land, so that every man who has any cause or question might come to me, and I would give a right decision for him!

5. எவனாகிலும் ஒருவன் அவனை வணங்கவரும்போது, அவன் தன் கையை நீட்டி அவனைத் தழுவி, முத்தஞ்செய்வான்.

5. And if any man came near to give him honour, he took him by the hand and gave him a kiss.

6. இந்தப்பிரகாரமாக அப்சலோம் ராஜாவினிடத்தில் நியாயத்திற்காக வரும் இஸ்ரவேலருக்கெல்லாம் செய்து, இஸ்ரவேல் மனுஷருடைய இருதயத்தைக் கவர்ந்துகொண்டான்.

6. And this Absalom did to everyone in Israel who came to the king to have his cause judged: so Absalom, like a thief, took away the hearts of the men of Israel.

7. நாற்பது வருஷம் சென்றபின்பு, அப்சலோம் ராஜாவை நோக்கி: நான் கர்த்தருக்குப் பண்ணின என் பொருத்தனையை எப்ரோனில் செலுத்தும்படிக்கு நான் போக உத்தரவுகொடும்.

7. Now at the end of four years, Absalom said to the king, Let me go to Hebron and give effect to the oath which I made to the Lord:

8. கர்த்தர் என்னை எருசலேமுக்குத் திரும்பி வரப்பண்ணினால், கர்த்தருக்கு ஆராதனை செய்வேன் என்று உமது அடியானாகிய நான் சீரியா தேசத்தில் கேசூரிலே குடியிருக்கும்போது, பொருத்தனை பண்ணினேன் என்றான்.

8. For while I was living in Geshur in Aram, your servant made an oath, saying, If ever the Lord lets me come back to Jerusalem, I will give him worship in Hebron.

9. அதற்கு ராஜா, சமாதானத்தோடே போ என்றான்; அப்பொழுது அவன் எழுந்து எப்ரோனுக்கு போனான்.

9. And the king said to him, Go in peace. So he got up and went to Hebron.

10. அப்சலோம் இஸ்ரவேல் கோத்திரங்களுக்கெல்லாம் வேவுகாரரை அனுப்பி, நீங்கள் எக்காளத்தொனியைக் கேட்கும்போது, அப்சலோம் எப்ரோனிலே ராஜாவானான் என்று சொல்லுங்கள் என்று சொல்லச்சொல்லி வைத்திருந்தான்.

10. But Absalom at the same time sent watchers through all the tribes of Israel to say, At the sound of the horn you are to say, Absalom is king in Hebron.

11. எருசலேமிலிருந்து வரவழைக்கப்பட்ட இருநூறுபேர் அப்சலோமோடே கூடப்போனார்கள்; அவர்கள் வஞ்சகமின்றி அறியாமையினால் போனார்கள்.

11. And with Absalom, at his request, went two hundred men from Jerusalem, who were completely unconscious of his designs.

12. அப்சலோம் பலிகளைச் செலுத்தும் போது, தாவீதின் ஆலோசனைக்காரனாகிய அகித்தோப்பேல் என்னும் கீலோனியனையும் அவன் ஊராகிய கீலோவிலிருந்து வரவழைப்பித்தான்; அப்படியே கட்டுப்பாடு பலத்து, ஜனங்கள் அப்சலோமினிடத்தில் திரளாய் வந்து கூடினார்கள்.

12. And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, one of David's helpers, from Giloh his town, while he was making the offerings. And the design against David became strong, for more and more people were joined to Absalom.

13. அதை அறிவிக்கிற ஒருவன் தாவீதினிடத்தில் வந்து, இஸ்ரவேலில் ஒவ்வொருவருடைய இருதயமும் அப்சலோமைப் பற்றிப்போகிறது என்றான்.

13. And one came to David and said, The hearts of the men of Israel have gone after Absalom.

14. அப்பொழுது தாவீது எருசலேமிலே தன்னிடத்திலுள்ள தன்னுடைய எல்லா ஊழியக்காரரையும் நோக்கி: எழுந்து ஓடிப்போவோம், இல்லாவிட்டால் நாம் அப்சலோமுக்குத் தப்ப இடமில்லை; அவன் தீவிரித்து நம்மிடத்தில் வந்து, நம்மைப் பிடித்து, நம்மேல் பொல்லாப்பு வரப்பண்ணி, நகரத்தைப் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் சங்காரம்பண்ணாதபடிக்குத் தீவிரமாய்ப் புறப்படுங்கள் என்றான்.

14. And David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, Come, let us go in flight, or not one of us will be safe from Absalom: let us go without loss of time, or he will overtake us quickly and send evil on us, and put the town to the sword.

15. ராஜாவின் ஊழியக்காரர் ராஜாவைப் பார்த்து: இதோ, ராஜாவாகிய எங்கள் ஆண்டவன் கட்டளையிடும் காரியத்தையெல்லாம் செய்ய உமது அடியாராகிய நாங்கள் ஆயத்தமாயிருக்கிறோம் என்றார்கள்.

15. And the king's servants said to the king, See, your servants are ready to do whatever the king says is to be done.

16. அப்படியே ராஜாவும் அவனுடைய வீட்டார் எல்லாரும் கால்நடையாய்ப் புறப்பட்டார்கள்; வீட்டைக்காக்க ராஜா மறுமனையாட்டிகளாகிய பத்து ஸ்திரீகளைப் பின்வைத்தான்.

16. So the king went out, taking with him all the people of his house, but for ten of his women, who were to take care of the house.

17. ராஜாவும் சமஸ்த ஜனங்களும் கால்நடையாய்ப் புறப்பட்டு, சற்றுத்தூரம் போய், ஒரு இடத்திலே தரித்து நின்றார்கள்.

17. And the king went out, and all his servants went after him, and made a stop at the Far House.

18. அவனுடைய ஊழியக்காரர் எல்லாரும், கிரேத்தியர் யாவரும், பிலேத்தியர் யாவரும் அவன் பக்கத்திலே நடந்து போனார்கள்; காத்தூரிலிருந்து கால்நடையாய் வந்திருந்த அறுநூறுபேராகிய கித்தியர் எல்லாரும் ராஜாவுக்கு முன்பாக நடந்தார்கள்.

18. And all the people went on by his side; and all the Cherethites and all the Pelethites and all the men of Ittai of Gath, six hundred men who came after him from Gath, went on before the king.

19. அப்பொழுது ராஜா கித்தியனாகிய ஈத்தாயைப் பார்த்து: நீ எங்களுடனே கூட வருவானேன்? நீ திரும்பிப்போய், ராஜாவுடனேகூட இரு; நீ அந்நிய தேசத்தான்; நீ உன் இடத்திற்குத் திரும்பிப் போகலாம்.

19. Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite, Why are you coming with us? go back and keep with the king: for you are a man of another country, you are far from the land of your birth.

20. நீ நேற்றுதானே வந்தாய்; இன்று நான் உன்னை எங்களோடே நடந்துவரும்படிக்கு அழைத்துக்கொண்டு போகலாமா நான் போகக்கூடிய இடத்திற்குப் போகிறேன்; நீ உன் சகோதரரையும் அழைத்துகொண்டு திரும்பிப்போ; கிருபையும் உண்மையும் உன்னோடே இருப்பதாக என்றான்.

20. It was only yesterday you came to us; why then am I to make you go up and down with us? for I have to go where I may; go back then, and take your countrymen with you, and may the Lord's mercy and good faith be with you.

21. ஆனாலும் ஈத்தாய் ராஜாவுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவன் எங்கேயிருப்பாரோ, அங்கே உமது அடியானும், செத்தாலும் பிழைத்தாலும், இருப்பான் என்று கர்த்தருடைய ஜீவனையும் ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனுடைய ஜீவனையும் கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான்.

21. And Ittai the Gittite in answer said, By the living Lord, and by the life of my lord the king, in whatever place my lord the king may be, for life or death, there will your servant be.

22. அப்பொழுது தாவீது ஈத்தாயை நோக்கி: நடந்துவா என்றான்; அப்படியே கித்தியனாகிய ஈத்தாயும் அவனுடைய எல்லா மனுஷரும் அவனோடிருக்கிற எல்லாப் பிள்ளைகளும் நடந்துபோனார்கள்.

22. And David said to Ittai, Go forward, then. And Ittai the Gittite went on, with all his men and all the little ones he had with him.

23. சகல ஜனங்களும் நடந்துபோகிறபோது, தேசத்தார் எல்லாரும் மகா சத்தமாய் அழுதார்கள்; ராஜா கீதரோன் ஆற்றைக் கடந்தான்; ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் வனாந்தரத்திற்குப் போகிற வழியே நடந்துபோனார்கள்.

23. And there was great weeping in all the country when all the people went through; and the king himself was waiting in the Kidron valley and all the people went by him in the direction of the olive-tree on the edge of the waste land.

24. சாதோக்கும் தேவனுடைய உடன்படிக்கைப் பெட்டியை அவனோடேகூட இருந்து சுமக்கிற சகல லேவியரும் வந்து, தேவனுடைய பெட்டியை அங்கே வைத்தார்கள்; ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் நகரத்திலிருந்து கடந்து தீருமட்டும், அபியத்தார் திரும்பிப்போயிருந்தான்.

24. Then Zadok came, and Abiathar, and with them the ark of God's agreement: and they put down the ark of God, till all the people from the town had gone by.

25. ராஜா சாதோக்கை நோக்கி: தேவனுடைய பெட்டியை நகரத்திற்குத் திரும்பக் கொண்டுபோ; கர்த்தருடைய கண்களில் எனக்குக் கிருபை கிடைத்ததானால், நான் அதையும் அவர் வாசஸ்தலத்தையும் பார்க்கிறதற்கு, என்னைத் திரும்ப வரப்பண்ணுவார்.

25. And the king said to Zadok, Take the ark of God back into the town: if I have grace in the eyes of the Lord, he will let me come back and see it and his House again:

26. அவர்: உன்மேல் எனக்குப் பிரியமில்லை என்பாராகில், இதோ, இங்கே இருக்கிறேன்; அவர் தம்முடைய பார்வைக்கு நலமானபடி எனக்குச் செய்வாராக என்றான்.

26. But if he says, I have no delight in you: then, here I am; let him do to me what seems good to him.

27. பின்னும் ராஜா ஆசாரியனாகிய சாதோக்கை நோக்கி: நீ ஞானதிருஷ்டிக்காரன் அல்லவோ? நீ சமாதானத்தோடே நகரத்திற்குத் திரும்பு; உன் மகன் அகிமாசும் அபியத்தாரின் மகன் யோனத்தானுமாகிய உங்கள் குமாரர் இரண்டுபேரும் உங்களோடேகூடத் திரும்பிப் போகட்டும்.

27. The king said further to Zadok the priest, See, you and Abiathar are to go back to the town in peace, with your two sons, Ahimaaz, your son, and Jonathan, the son of Abiathar.

28. எனக்கு அறிவிக்கிறதற்கு உங்களிடத்திலிருந்து செய்தி வருமட்டும், நான் வனாந்தரத்தின் வெளிகளிலே தரித்திருப்பேன் என்றான்.

28. See, I will be waiting at the way across the river, in the waste land, till I get news from you.

29. அப்படியே சாதோக்கும் அபியத்தாரும் தேவனுடைய பெட்டியை எருசலேமுக்குத் திரும்பக் கொண்டுபோய், அங்கே இருந்தார்கள்.

29. So Zadok and Abiathar took the ark of God back to Jerusalem, and did not go away from there.

30. தாவீது தன் முகத்தை மூடி, வெறுங்காலால் நடந்து அழுதுகொண்டு, ஒலிவமலையின்மேல் ஏறிப்போனான்; அவனோடிருந்த சகல ஜனங்களும் முகத்தை மூடி அழுதுகொண்டு ஏறினார்கள்.

30. And David went up the slopes of the Mount of Olives weeping all the way, with his head covered and no shoes on his feet: and all the people who were with him, covering their heads, went up weeping.

31. அப்சலோமோடே கட்டுப்பாடு பண்ணினவர்களுடன் அகித்தோப்பேலும் சேர்ந்திருக்கிறான் என்று தாவீதுக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டபோது, தாவீது: கர்த்தாவே, அகித்தோப்பேலின் ஆலோசனையைப் பயித்தியமாக்கிவிடுவீராக என்றான்.

31. And word came to David, saying, Ahithophel is among those who are joined to Absalom. And David said, O Lord, let the wisdom of Ahithophel be made foolish.

32. தாவீது மலையின் உச்சிமட்டும் வந்து, அங்கே தேவனைப் பணிந்துகொண்டபோது, இதோ, அற்கியனாகிய ஊசாய் தன் வஸ்திரத்தைக் கிழித்துக் கொண்டு, தலையின்மேல் புழுதியைப் போட்டுக்கொண்டவனாய் அவனுக்கு எதிர்ப்பட்டான்.

32. Now when David had come to the top of the slope, where they gave worship to God, Hushai the Archite came to him in great grief with dust on his head:

33. தாவீது அவனைப் பார்த்து: நீ என்னோடேகூட நடந்துவந்தால் எனக்குப் பாரமாயிருப்பாய்.

33. David said to him, If you go on with me, you will be a trouble to me:

34. நீ நகரத்திற்குத் திரும்பிப்போய், அப்சலோமை நோக்கி: ராஜாவே, உம்முடைய ஊழியக்காரனாயிருப்பேன்; முன் நான் உம்முடைய தகப்பனுக்கு ஊழியக்காரனாயிருந்தேன்; இப்போது நான் உமக்கு ஊழியக்காரன் என்றாயேயாகில், எனக்காக அகித்தோப்பேலின் ஆலோசனையை அபத்தமாக்குவாய்.

34. But if you go back to the town and say to Absalom, I will be your servant, O king; as in the past I have been your father's servant, so now I will be yours: then you will be able to keep Ahithophel's designs against me from being put into effect.

35. உன்னோடே அங்கே சாதோக் அபியத்தார் என்னும் ஆசாரியர்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள் அல்லவா? ராஜாவின் வீட்டிலே பிறக்கிற ஏதேது செய்தி உண்டோ, என்னென்ன கேள்விப்படுகிறாயோ, அதையெல்லாம் சாதோக் அபியத்தார் என்னும் ஆசாரியர்களுக்கு அறிவிப்பாய்.

35. And have you not there Zadok and Abiathar the priests? so whatever comes to your ears from the king's house, give word of it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.

36. அங்கே அவர்களோடே சாதோக்கின் மகன் அகிமாசும், அபியத்தாரின் மகன் யோனத்தானும், அவர்கள் இரண்டு குமாரரும் இருக்கிறார்கள்; நீங்கள் கேள்விப்படுகிற செய்தியையெல்லாம் அவர்கள் வசமாய் எனக்கு அனுப்புவீர்களாக என்றான்.

36. See, they have with them their two sons, Ahimaaz, Zadok's son, and Jonathan, the son of Abiathar; by them you may send word to me of everything which comes to your ears.

37. அப்படியே தாவீதின் சிநேகிதனாகிய ஊசாய் நகரத்திற்கு வந்தான்; அப்சலோமும் எருசலேமுக்கு வந்தான்.

37. So Hushai, David's friend, went into the town, and Absalom came to Jerusalem.
