1. Some time later God put Abraham to the test. He said to him, 'Abraham!' 'Here I am,' Abraham replied.

2. Then God said, 'Take your son, your only son. He is the one you love. Take Isaac. Go to Moriah. Give him to me there as a burnt offering. Sacrifice him on one of the mountains I will tell you about.'

3. Early the next morning Abraham got up. He put a saddle on his donkey. He took two of his servants and his son Isaac with him. He cut enough wood for the burnt offering. Then he started out for the place God had told him about.

4. மூன்றாம் நாளில் ஆபிரகாம் தன் கண்களை ஏறெடுத்துப்பார்த்து, தூரத்திலே அந்த இடத்தைக் கண்டான்.

4. On the third day Abraham looked up. He saw the place a long way off.

5. அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் தன் வேலைக்காரரை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் கழுதையை நிறுத்தி இங்கே காத்திருங்கள், நானும் பிள்ளையாண்டானும் அவ்விடமட்டும் போய், தொழுதுகொண்டு, உங்களிடத்துக்குத் திரும்பி வருவோம் என்றான்.

5. He said to his servants, 'Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go over there and worship. Then we'll come back to you.'

6. ஆபிரகாம் தகனபலிக்குக் கட்டைகளை எடுத்து, தன் குமாரனாகிய ஈசாக்கின் மேல் வைத்து, தன் கையிலே நெருப்பையும் கத்தியையும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டான்; இருவரும் கூடிப்போனார்கள்.

6. Abraham put the wood for the burnt offering on his son Isaac. He himself carried the fire and the knife. The two of them walked on together.

7. அப்பொழுது ஈசாக்கு தன் தகப்பனாகிய ஆபிரகாமை நோக்கி: என் தகப்பனே என்றான்; அதற்கு அவன்: என் மகனே, இதோ, இருக்கிறேன் என்றான்; அப்பொழுது அவன்: இதோ, நெருப்பும் கட்டையும் இருக்கிறது, தகனபலிக்கு ஆட்டுக்குட்டி எங்கே என்றான்.

7. Then Isaac spoke up. He said to his father Abraham, 'Father?' 'Yes, my son?' Abraham replied. 'The fire and wood are here,' Isaac said. 'But where is the lamb for the burnt offering?'

8. Abraham answered, 'God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.' The two of them walked on together.

9. தேவன் அவனுக்குச் சொல்லியிருந்த இடத்துக்கு வந்தார்கள்; அங்கே ஆபிரகாம் ஒரு பலிபீடத்தை உண்டாக்கி, கட்டைகளை அடுக்கி, தன் குமாரனாகிய ஈசாக்கைக் கட்டி, அந்தப் பலிபீடத்தில் அடுக்கிய கட்டைகளின்மேல் அவனைக் கிடத்தினான்.

9. They reached the place God had told Abraham about. There Abraham built an altar. He arranged the wood on it. He tied up his son Isaac. He placed him on the altar, on top of the wood.

10. பின்பு ஆபிரகாம் தன் குமாரனை வெட்டும்படிக்குத் தன் கையை நீட்டிக் கத்தியை எடுத்தான்.

10. Then he reached out his hand. He took the knife to kill his son.

11. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தருடைய தூதனானவர் வானத்திலிருந்து, ஆபிரகாமே, ஆபிரகாமே என்று கூப்பிட்டார்; அவன்: இதோ, அடியேன் என்றான்.

11. But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven. He said, 'Abraham! Abraham!' 'Here I am,' Abraham replied.

12. அப்பொழுது அவர்: பிள்ளையாண்டான்மேல் உன் கையைப் போடாதே, அவனுக்கு ஒன்றும் செய்யாதே; நீ அவனை உன் புத்திரன் என்றும், உன் ஏகசுதன் என்றும் பாராமல் எனக்காக ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தபடியினால் நீ தேவனுக்குப் பயப்படுகிறவன் என்று இப்பொழுது அறிந்திருக்கிறேன் என்றார்.

12. 'Do not lay a hand on the boy,' he said. 'Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you have respect for God. You have not held back from me your son, your only son.'

13. ஆபிரகாம் தன் கண்களை ஏறெடுத்துப் பார்க்கும்போது, இதோ, பின்னாகப் புதரிலே தன் கொம்புகள் சிக்கிக்கொண்டிருந்த ஒரு ஆட்டுக்கடாவைக் கண்டான்; அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் போய், கடாவைப் பிடித்து, அதைத் தன் குமாரனுக்குப் பதிலாகத் தகனபலியிட்டான்.

13. Abraham looked up. There in a bush he saw a ram. It was caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram. He sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.

14. ஆபிரகாம் அந்த இடத்துக்கு யேகோவாயீரே என்று பேரிட்டான்; அதினாலே கர்த்தருடைய பர்வதத்திலே பார்த்துக்கொள்ளப்படும் என்று இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் சொல்லப்பட்டு வருகிறது.

14. So Abraham named that place The Lord Will Provide. To this day people say, 'It will be provided on the mountain of the Lord.'

15. கர்த்தருடைய தூதனானவர் இரண்டாந்தரம் வானத்திலிருந்து ஆபிரகாமைக் கூப்பிட்டு:

15. The angel of the Lord called out to Abraham from heaven a second time.

16. நீ உன் புத்திரன் என்றும், உன் ஏகசுதன் என்றும் பாராமல் அவனை ஒப்புக்கொடுத்து இந்தக் காரியத்தைச் செய்தபடியால்;

16. He said, 'I am taking an oath in my own name. I will bless you because of what you have done,' announces the Lord. 'You have not held back your son, your only son.

17. 'So I will certainly bless you. I will make your children after you as many as the stars in the sky. I will make them as many as the grains of sand on the seashore. Your children will take over the cities of their enemies.

18. All nations on earth will be blessed because of your children. All of that will happen because you have obeyed me.'

19. Then Abraham returned to his servants. They started out together for Beersheba. And Abraham stayed in Beersheba.

20. இந்தக் காரியங்கள் நடந்தபின்பு, ஒருவன் ஆபிரகாமிடத்தில் வந்து: மில்க்காளும் உன் சகோதரனாகிய நாகோருக்குப் பிள்ளைகளைப் பெற்றாள்;

20. Some time later Abraham was told, 'Milcah has become a mother. She has had sons by your brother Nahor.

21. அவர்கள் யாரென்றால், முதற்பேறான ஊத்ஸ், அவன் தம்பியாகிய பூஸ், ஆராமுக்குத் தகப்பனாகிய கேமுவேல்,

21. Uz was born first. Then came his brother Buz. Next came Kemuel, the father of Aram.

22. கேசேத், ஆசோ, பில்தாஸ், இத்லாப், பெத்துவேல் என்பவர்கள்; பெத்துவேல் ரெபெக்காளைப் பெற்றான் என்று அறிவித்தான்.

22. The other sons are Kesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph and Bethuel.'

23. அந்த எட்டுப்பேரை மில்க்காள் ஆபிரகாமுடைய சகோதரனாகிய நாகோருக்குப் பெற்றாள்.

23. Bethuel became the father of Rebekah. Milcah had the eight sons by Abraham's brother Nahor.

24. ரேயுமாள் என்று பேர்கொண்ட அவனுடைய மறுமனையாட்டியும், தேபா, காகாம், தாகாஸ், மாகா என்பவர்களைப் பெற்றாள்.

24. Nahor had a concubine named Reumah. She also had sons. They were Tebah, Gaham, Tahash and Maacah.
