1. GOD visited Sarah exactly as he said he would; GOD did to Sarah what he promised:

2. Sarah became pregnant and gave Abraham a son in his old age, and at the very time God had set.

3. அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் தனக்குச் சாராள் பெற்ற குமாரனுக்கு ஈசாக்கு என்று பேரிட்டான்.

3. Abraham named him Isaac.

4. தன் குமாரனாகிய ஈசாக்கு பிறந்த எட்டாம் நாளிலே, ஆபிரகாம் தனக்குத் தேவன் கட்டளையிட்டிருந்தபடி அவனுக்கு விருத்தசேதனம்பண்ணினான்.

4. When his son was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him just as God had commanded.

5. தன் குமாரனாகிய ஈசாக்கு பிறந்தபோது ஆபிரகாம் நூறுவயதாயிருந்தான்.

5. Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born.

6. அப்பொழுது சாராள்: தேவன் என்னை நகைக்கப்பண்ணினார்; இதைக்கேட்கிற யாவரும் என்னோடகூட நகைப்பார்கள்.

6. Sarah said, God has blessed me with laughter and all who get the news will laugh with me!

7. சாராள் பிள்ளைகளுக்குப் பால்கொடுப்பாள் என்று ஆபிரகாமுக்கு எவன் சொல்லுவான்? அவருடைய முதிர்வயதிலே அவருக்கு ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்றேனே என்றாள்.

7. She also said, Whoever would have suggested to Abraham that Sarah would one day nurse a baby! Yet here I am! I've given the old man a son!

8. பிள்ளை வளர்ந்து, பால் மறந்தது; ஈசாக்கு பால் மறந்தநாளிலே ஆபிரகாம் பெரிய விருந்து பண்ணினான்.

8. The baby grew and was weaned. Abraham threw a big party on the day Isaac was weaned.

9. One day Sarah saw the son that Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham, poking fun at her son Isaac.

10. ஆபிரகாமை நோக்கி: இந்த அடிமைப்பெண்ணையும் அவள் மகனையும் புறம்பே தள்ளும்; இந்த அடிமைப்பெண்ணின் மகன் என் குமாரனாகிய ஈசாக்கோடே சுதந்திரவாளியாயிருப்பதில்லை என்றாள்.

10. She told Abraham, 'Get rid of this slave woman and her son. No child of this slave is going to share inheritance with my son Isaac!'

11. தன் மகனைக்குறித்துச் சொல்லப்பட்ட இந்தக் காரியம் ஆபிரகாமுக்கு மிகவும் துக்கமாயிருந்தது.

11. The matter gave great pain to Abraham--after all, Ishmael was his son.

12. அப்பொழுது தேவன் ஆபிரகாமை நோக்கி: அந்தப் பிள்ளையையும், உன் அடிமைப்பெண்ணையும் குறித்துச் சொல்லப்பட்டது உனக்குத் துக்கமாயிருக்க வேண்டாம்; ஈசாக்கினிடத்தில் உன் சந்ததி விளங்கும்; ஆதலால் சாராள் உனக்குச் சொல்வதெல்லாவற்றையும் கேள்.

12. But God spoke to Abraham, 'Don't feel badly about the boy and your maid. Do whatever Sarah tells you. Your descendants will come through Isaac.

13. அடிமைப்பெண்ணின் மகனும் உன் வித்தாயிருக்கிறபடியால், அவனையும் ஒரு ஜாதியாக்குவேன் என்றார்.

13. Regarding your maid's son, be assured that I'll also develop a great nation from him--he's your son too.'

14. ஆபிரகாம் அதிகாலையில் எழுந்து, அப்பத்தையும் ஒரு துருத்தி தண்ணீரையும் எடுத்து, ஆகாருடைய தோளின்மேல் வைத்துப் பிள்ளையையும் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்து, அவளை அனுப்பிவிட்டான்; அவள் புறப்பட்டுப்போய், பெயர்செபாவின் வனாந்தரத்திலே அலைந்து திரிந்தாள்.

14. Abraham got up early the next morning, got some food together and a canteen of water for Hagar, put them on her back and sent her away with the child. She wandered off into the desert of Beersheba.

15. துருத்தியிலிருந்த தண்ணீர் செலவழிந்தபின்பு, அவள் பிள்ளையை ஒரு செடியின் கீழே விட்டு,

15. When the water was gone, she left the child under a shrub

16. பிள்ளை சாகிறதை நான் பார்க்கமாட்டேன் என்று, எதிராக அம்பு பாயும் தூரத்திலே போய் உட்கார்ந்து சத்தமிட்டு அழுதாள்.

16. and went off, fifty yards or so. She said, 'I can't watch my son die.' As she sat, she broke into sobs.

17. தேவன் பிள்ளையின் சத்தத்தைக் கேட்டார்; தேவதூதன் வானத்திலிருந்து ஆகாரைக் கூப்பிட்டு: ஆகாரே, உனக்கு என்ன சம்பவித்தது, பயப்படாதே, பிள்ளையிருக்கும் இடத்திலே தேவன் அவன் சத்தத்தைக் கேட்டார்.

17. Meanwhile, God heard the boy crying. The angel of God called from Heaven to Hagar, 'What's wrong, Hagar? Don't be afraid. God has heard the boy and knows the fix he's in.

18. நீ எழுந்து பிள்ளையை எடுத்து அவனை உன் கையினால் பிடித்துக் கொண்டுபோ, அவனைப் பெரிய ஜாதியாக்குவேன் என்றார்.

18. Up now; go get the boy. Hold him tight. I'm going to make of him a great nation.'

19. தேவன் அவளுடைய கண்களைத் திறந்தார்; அப்பொழுது அவள் ஒரு தண்ணீர்த் துரவைக் கண்டு, போய், துருத்தியிலே தண்ணீர் நிரப்பி, பிள்ளைக்குக் குடிக்கக் கொடுத்தாள்.

19. Just then God opened her eyes. She looked. She saw a well of water. She went to it and filled her canteen and gave the boy a long, cool drink.

20. தேவன் பிள்ளையுடனே இருந்தார்; அவன் வளர்ந்து வனாந்தரத்திலே குடியிருந்து வில்வித்தையிலே வல்லவனானான்.

20. God was on the boy's side as he grew up. He lived out in the desert and became a skilled archer.

21. அவன் பாரான் வனாந்தரத்திலே குடியிருக்கையில், அவனுடைய தாய் எகிப்து தேசத்தாளாகிய ஒரு பெண்ணை அவனுக்கு விவாகம்பண்ணுவித்தாள்.

21. He lived in the Paran wilderness. And his mother got him a wife from Egypt.

22. அக்காலத்தில் அபிமெலேக்கும் அவன் சேனாதிபதியாகிய பிகோலும் ஆபிரகாமை நோக்கி: நீ செய்கிற காரியங்கள் எல்லாவற்றிலும் தேவன் உன்னுடனே இருக்கிறார்.

22. At about that same time, Abimelech and the captain of his troops, Phicol, spoke to Abraham: 'No matter what you do, God is on your side.

23. ஆகையால், நீ எனக்காவது, என் குமாரனுக்காவது, என் பேரனுக்காவது வஞ்சனை செய்யாமல், நான் உனக்குச் செய்த தயவின்படியே, நீ எனக்கும், நீ தங்கியிருக்கிற இந்தத் தேசத்திற்கும், தயவு செய்வேன் என்று இங்கே தேவன் பேரில் எனக்கு ஆணையிட்டுக்கொடு என்றான்.

23. So swear to me that you won't do anything underhanded to me or any of my family. For as long as you live here, swear that you'll treat me and my land as well as I've treated you.'

24. அதற்கு ஆபிரகாம்: நான் ஆணையிட்டுக்கொடுக்கிறேன் என்றான்.

24. Abraham said, 'I swear it.'

25. ஆனாலும், அபிமெலேக்குடைய வேலைக்காரர் கைவசப்படுத்திக்கொண்ட துரவின் நிமித்தம் ஆபிரகாம் அபிமெலேக்கைக் கடிந்துகொண்டான்.

25. At the same time, Abraham confronted Abimelech over the matter of a well of water that Abimelech's servants had taken.

26. அதற்கு அபிமெலேக்கு: இந்தக் காரியத்தைச் செய்தவன் இன்னான் என்று எனக்குத் தெரியாது, நீயும் எனக்கு அறிவிக்கவில்லை; இன்று நான் அதைக்கேட்டதேயன்றி, இதற்குமுன் அதை நான் கேள்விப்பட்டதே இல்லை என்றான்.

26. Abimelech said, 'I have no idea who did this; you never told me about it; this is the first I've heard of it.'

27. அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் ஆடுமாடுகளைக் கொண்டுவந்து அபிமெலேக்குக்குக் கொடுத்தான்; அவர்கள் இருவரும் உடன்படிக்கை பண்ணிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

27. So the two of them made a covenant. Abraham took sheep and cattle and gave them to Abimelech.

28. ஆபிரகாம் ஏழு பெண்ணாட்டுக்குட்டிகளைத் தனியே நிறுத்தினான்.

28. Abraham set aside seven sheep from his flock.

29. அப்பொழுது அபிமெலேக்கு ஆபிரகாமை நோக்கி: நீ தனியே நிறுத்தின இந்த ஏழு பெண்ணாட்டுக்குட்டிகள் என்னத்திற்கு என்று கேட்டான்.

29. Abimelech said, 'What does this mean? These seven sheep you've set aside.'

30. அதற்கு அவன்: நான் இந்தத் துரவு தோண்டினதைக்குறித்து, நீர் சாட்சியாக இந்த ஏழு பெண்ணாட்டுக்குட்டிகளை என் கையில் வாங்கிக்கொள்ளவேண்டும் என்றான்.

30. Abraham said, 'It means that when you accept these seven sheep, you take it as proof that I dug this well, that it's my well.'

31. அவர்கள் இருவரும் அவ்விடத்தில் ஆணையிட்டுக்கொண்டபடியால், அந்த இடம் பெயெர்செபா என்னப்பட்டது.

31. That's how the place got named Beersheba (the Oath-Well), because the two of them swore a covenant oath there.

32. அவர்கள் பெயெர்செபாவிலே உடன்படிக்கை பண்ணிக்கொண்டபின் அபிமெலேக்கும், அவன் சேனாதிபதியாகிய பிகோலும் எழுந்து பெலிஸ்தருடைய தேசத்திற்குத் திரும்பிப்போனார்கள்.

32. After they had made the covenant at Beersheba, Abimelech and his commander, Phicol, left and went back to Philistine territory.

33. ஆபிரகாம் பெயெர்செபாவிலே ஒரு தோப்பை உண்டாக்கி, சதாகாலமுமுள்ள தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருடைய நாமத்தை அவ்விடத்தில் தொழுதுகொண்டான்.

33. Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba and worshiped GOD there, praying to the Eternal God.

34. ஆபிரகாம் பெலிஸ்தருடைய தேசத்தில் அநேகநாள் தங்கியிருந்தான்.

34. Abraham lived in Philistine country for a long time.
