1. அந்த இரண்டு தூதரும் சாயங்காலத்திலே சோதோமுக்கு வந்தார்கள். லோத்து சோதோமின் வாசலிலே உட்கார்ந்திருந்தான். அவர்களைக் கண்டு, லோத்து எழுந்து எதிர்கொண்டு தரைமட்டும் குனிந்து:

1. The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening. Lot was sitting at the city gate. He saw them and got up to welcome them, bowing before them

2. ஆண்டவன்மார்களே, அடியேனுடைய வீட்டு முகமாய் நீங்கள் திரும்பி, உங்கள் கால்களைக் கழுவி, இராத்தங்கி, காலையில் எழுந்து பிரயாணப்பட்டுப் போகலாம் என்றான். அதற்கு அவர்கள்: அப்படியல்ல, வீதியிலே இராத்தங்குவோம் என்றார்கள்.

2. and said, 'Please, my friends, come to my house and stay the night. Wash up. You can rise early and be on your way refreshed.' They said, 'No, we'll sleep in the street.'

3. But he insisted, wouldn't take no for an answer; and they relented and went home with him. Lot fixed a hot meal for them and they ate.

4. Before they went to bed men from all over the city of Sodom, young and old, descended on the house from all sides and boxed them in.

5. They yelled to Lot, 'Where are the men who are staying with you for the night? Bring them out so we can have our sport with them!'

6. அப்பொழுது லோத்து வாசலுக்கு வெளியே வந்து, தனக்குப் பின்னாலே கதவைப் பூட்டி, அவர்களிடத்தில் போய்:

6. Lot went out, barring the door behind him,

7. சகோதரரே, இந்த அக்கிரமம் செய்யவேண்டாம்.

7. and said, 'Brothers, please, don't be vile!

8. Look, I have two daughters, virgins; let me bring them out; you can take your pleasure with them, but don't touch these men--they're my guests.'

9. அதற்கு அவர்கள்: அப்பாலே போ; பரதேசியாய் வந்த இவனா நியாயம் பேசுகிறது? இப்பொழுது அவர்களுக்குச் செய்வதைப்பார்க்கிலும் உனக்கு அதிக பொல்லாப்புச் செய்வோம் என்று சொல்லி, லோத்து என்பவனை மிகவும் நெருக்கிக் கதவை உடைக்கக் கிட்டினார்கள்.

9. They said, 'Get lost! You drop in from nowhere and now you're going to tell us how to run our lives. We'll treat you worse than them!' And they charged past Lot to break down the door.

10. அப்பொழுது அந்தப் புருஷர்கள் தங்கள் கைகளை வெளியே நீட்டி, லோத்தைத் தங்கள் அண்டைக்கு வீட்டுக்குள் இழுத்துக்கொண்டு, கதவைப்பூட்டி,

10. But the two men reached out and pulled Lot inside the house, locking the door.

11. தெருவாசலிலிருந்த சிறியோரும் பெரியோருமாகிய மனிதருக்குக் குருட்டாட்டம் பிடிக்கப்பண்ணினார்கள்; அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் வாசலைத் தேடித்தேடி அலுத்துப்போனார்கள்.

11. Then they struck blind the men who were trying to break down the door, both leaders and followers, leaving them groping in the dark.

12. பின்பு அந்தப் புருஷர் லோத்தை நோக்கி: இவ்விடத்தில் இன்னும் உனக்கு யார் இருக்கிறார்கள்? மருமகனாவது, உன் குமாரராவது, உன் குமாரத்திகளாவது, பட்டணத்தில் உனக்குரிய எவர்களாவது இருந்தால், அவர்களை இந்த ஸ்தலத்திலிருந்து வெளியே அழைத்துக்கொண்டு போ.

12. The two men said to Lot, 'Do you have any other family here? Sons, daughters--anybody in the city? Get them out of here, and now!

13. நாங்கள் இந்த ஸ்தலத்தை அழிக்கப்போகிறோம்; இவர்கள் கூக்குரல் கர்த்தருடைய சமூகத்தில் பெரிதாயிருக்கிறது; இதை அழிக்கக் கர்த்தர் எங்களை அனுப்பினார் என்றார்கள்.

13. We're going to destroy this place. The outcries of victims here to GOD are deafening; we've been sent to blast this place into oblivion.'

14. அப்பொழுது லோத்து புறப்பட்டு, தன் குமாரத்திகளை விவாகம்பண்ணப்போகிற தன் மருமக்கள்மாரோடே பேசி: நீங்கள் எழுந்து இந்த ஸ்தலத்தை விட்டுப் புறப்படுங்கள்; கர்த்தர் இந்தப் பட்டணத்தை அழிக்கப்போகிறார் என்றான்; அவனுடைய மருமக்கள்மாரின் பார்வைக்கு அவன் பரியாசம்பண்ணுகிறதாகக் கண்டது.

14. Lot went out and warned the fianc�s of his daughters, 'Evacuate this place; GOD is about to destroy this city!' But his daughters' would-be husbands treated it as a joke.

15. கிழக்கு வெளுக்கும்போது அந்தத் தூதர் லோத்தை நோக்கி: பட்டணத்திற்கு வரும் தண்டனையில் நீ அழியாதபடிக்கு எழுந்து, உன் மனைவியையும், இங்கே இருக்கிற உன் இரண்டு குமாரத்திகளையும் அழைத்துக்கொண்டுபோ என்று சொல்லி, அவனைத் துரிதப்படுத்தினார்கள்.

15. At break of day, the angels pushed Lot to get going, 'Hurry. Get your wife and two daughters out of here before it's too late and you're caught in the punishment of the city.'

16. அவன் தாமதித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கும்போது, கர்த்தர் அவன்மேல் வைத்த இரக்கத்தினாலே, அந்தப் புருஷர் அவன் கையையும், அவன் மனைவியின் கையையும், அவன் இரண்டு குமாரத்திகளின் கையையும் பிடித்து, அவனைப் பட்டணத்திற்கு வெளியே கொண்டுபோய் விட்டார்கள்.

16. Lot was dragging his feet. The men grabbed Lot's arm, and the arms of his wife and daughters--GOD was so merciful to them!--and dragged them to safety outside the city.

17. அவர்களை வெளியே கொண்டுபோய்விட்டபின்பு, அவர்: உன் ஜீவன் தப்ப ஓடிப்போ, பின்னிட்டுப் பாராதே; இந்தச் சமபூமியில் எங்கும் நில்லாதே; நீ அழியாதபடிக்கு மலைக்கு ஓடிப்போ என்றார்.

17. When they had them outside, Lot was told, 'Now run for your life! Don't look back! Don't stop anywhere on the plain--run for the hills or you'll be swept away.'

18. அதற்கு லோத்து: அப்படியல்ல ஆண்டவரே,

18. But Lot protested, 'No, masters, you can't mean it!

19. உமது கண்களில் உமது அடியேனுக்குக் கிருபைகிடைத்ததே; என் பிராணனைக் காக்கத் தேவரீர் எனக்குச் செய்த கிருபையைப் பெரிதாக விளங்கப்பண்ணினீர்; மலைக்கு ஓடிப்போக என்னால் முடியாது, தீங்கு என்னைத் தொடரும், நான் மரித்துப்போவேன்.

19. I know that you've taken a liking to me and have done me an immense favor in saving my life, but I can't run for the mountains--who knows what terrible thing might happen to me in the mountains and leave me for dead.

20. Look over there--that town is close enough to get to. It's a small town, hardly anything to it. Let me escape there and save my life--it's a mere wide place in the road.'

21. அதற்கு அவர்: நீ கேட்டுக்கொண்ட ஊரை நான் கவிழ்த்துப்போடாதபடிக்கு, இந்த விஷயத்திலும் உனக்கு அநுக்கிரகம் பண்ணினேன்.

21. He said to him, 'All right. If you insist. I'll let you have your way. And I won't stamp out the town you've spotted.

22. தீவிரமாய் அங்கே ஓடித் தப்பித்துக்கொள்; நீ அங்கே போய்ச் சேருமட்டும் நான் ஒன்றும் செய்யக்கூடாது என்றார்; ஆகையால் அந்த ஊர் சோவார் என்னப்பட்டது.

22. But hurry up. Run for it! I can't do anything until you get there.' That's why the town was called Zoar, that is, Smalltown.

23. லோத்து சோவாருக்குள் வரும்போது பூமியின்மேல் சூரியன் உதித்தது.

23. The sun was high in the sky when Lot arrived at Zoar.

24. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் சோதோமின் மேலும் கொமோராவின்மேலும், கர்த்தராலே வானத்திலிருந்து கந்தகத்தையும் அக்கினியையும் வருஷிக்கப்பண்ணி,

24. Then GOD rained brimstone and fire down on Sodom and Gomorrah--a river of lava from GOD out of the sky!--

25. அந்தப் பட்டணங்களையும், அந்தச் சமபூமியனைத்தையும், அந்தப் பட்டணங்களின் எல்லாக் குடிகளையும், பூமியின் பயிரையும் அழித்துப்போட்டார்.

25. and destroyed these cities and the entire plain and everyone who lived in the cities and everything that grew from the ground.

26. அவன் மனைவியோ பின்னிட்டுப்பார்த்து, உப்புத்தூண் ஆனாள்.

26. But Lot's wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt.

27. விடியற்காலத்தில் ஆபிரகாம் எழுந்து தான் கர்த்தருக்கு முன்பாக நின்ற இடத்திற்குப் போய்,

27. Abraham got up early the next morning and went to the place he had so recently stood with GOD.

28. சோதோம் கொமோரா பட்டணங்களின் திசையையும், சமபூமியாகிய தேசம் முழுவதையும் நோக்கிப் பார்த்தான்; அந்தப் பூமியின் புகை சூளையின் புகையைப்போல எழும்பிற்று.

28. He looked out over Sodom and Gomorrah, surveying the whole plain. All he could see was smoke belching from the Earth, like smoke from a furnace.

29. தேவன் அந்தச் சமபூமியின் பட்டணங்களை அழிக்கும்போது, தேவன் ஆபிரகாமை நினைத்து, லோத்து குடியிருந்த பட்டணங்களைத் தாம் கவிழ்த்துப்போடுகையில், லோத்தை அந்த அழிவின் நடுவிலிருந்து தப்பிப்போகும்படி அனுப்பிவிட்டார்.

29. And that's the story: When God destroyed the Cities of the Plain, he was mindful of Abraham and first got Lot out of there before he blasted those cities off the face of the Earth.

30. பின்பு லோத்து சோவாரிலே குடியிருக்கப் பயந்து, சோவாரை விட்டுப்போய், அவனும் அவனோடேகூட அவனுடைய இரண்டு குமாரத்திகளும் மலையிலே வாசம்பண்ணினார்கள்; அங்கே அவனும் அவனுடைய இரண்டு குமாரத்திகளும் ஒரு கெபியிலே குடியிருந்தார்கள்.

30. Lot left Zoar and went into the mountains to live with his two daughters; he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He lived in a cave with his daughters.

31. அப்பொழுது மூத்தவள் இளையவளைப் பார்த்து: நம்முடைய தகப்பன் முதிர்வயதானார், பூமியெங்கும் நடக்கிற முறைமையின்படியே நம்மோடே சேரப்பூமியிலே ஒரு புருஷனும் இல்லை.

31. One day the older daughter said to the younger, 'Our father is getting old and there's not a man left in the country by whom we can get pregnant.

32. நம்முடைய தகப்பனால் சந்ததி உண்டாகும்படிக்கு, அவருக்கு மதுவைக் குடிக்கக்கொடுத்து, அவரோடே சயனிப்போம் வா என்றாள்.

32. Let's get our father drunk with wine and lie with him. We'll get children through our father--it's our only chance to keep our family alive.'

33. அப்படியே அன்று இரவிலே, தங்கள் தகப்பனுக்கு மதுவைக் குடிக்கக் கொடுத்தார்கள். மூத்தவள் போய், தன் தகப்பனோடே சயனித்தாள்: அவள் சயனித்ததையும் எழுந்திருந்ததையும் அவன் உணராதிருந்தான்.

33. They got their father drunk with wine that very night. The older daughter went and lay with him. He was oblivious, knowing nothing of what she did.

34. மறுநாளிலே மூத்தவள் இளையவளைப் பார்த்து: நேற்று ராத்திரி நான் தகப்பனோடே சயனித்தேன்; இன்று ராத்திரியும் மதுவைக் குடிக்கக்கொடுப்போம், நம்முடைய தகப்பனால் சந்ததி உண்டாகும்படி நீ போய் அவரோடே சயனி என்றாள்.

34. The next morning the older said to the younger, 'Last night I slept with my father. Tonight, it's your turn. We'll get him drunk again and then you sleep with him. We'll both get a child through our father and keep our family alive.'

35. அப்படியே அன்று ராத்திரியிலும் தங்கள் தகப்பனுக்கு மதுவைக் குடிக்கக் கொடுத்தார்கள். அப்பொழுது இளையவள் எழுந்துபோய், அவனோடே சயனித்தாள்; அவள் சயனித்ததையும் எழுந்திருந்ததையும் அவன் உணராதிருந்தான்.

35. So that night they got their father drunk again and the younger went in and slept with him. Again he was oblivious, knowing nothing of what she did.

36. இவ்விதமாய் லோத்தின் குமாரத்திகள் இருவரும் தங்கள் தகப்பனாலே கர்ப்பவதியானார்கள்.

36. Both daughters became pregnant by their father, Lot.

37. மூத்தவள் ஒரு குமாரனைப்பெற்று, அவனுக்கு மோவாப் என்று பேரிட்டாள்; அவன் இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் இருக்கிற மோவாபியருக்குத் தகப்பன்.

37. The older daughter had a son and named him Moab, the ancestor of the present-day Moabites.

38. இளையவளும் ஒரு குமாரனைப்பெற்று, அவனுக்குப் பென்னம்மி என்று பேரிட்டாள்; அவன் இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் இருக்கிற அம்மோன் புத்திரருக்குத் தகப்பன்.

38. The younger daughter had a son and named him Ben-Ammi, the ancestor of the present-day Ammonites.
