1. இந்தக் காரியங்கள் நடந்தபின்பு, கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தை ஆபிராமுக்குத் தரிசனத்திலே உண்டாகி, அவர்: ஆபிராமே, நீ பயப்படாதே; நான் உனக்குக் கேடகமும், உனக்கு மகா பெரிய பலனுமாயிருக்கிறேன் என்றார்.

1. Some time later, Abram had a vision. The Lord said to him, 'Abram, do not be afraid. I am like a shield to you. I am your very great reward.'

2. அதற்கு ஆபிராம்: கர்த்தராகிய ஆண்டவரே, அடியேனுக்கு என்ன தருவீர்? நான் பிள்ளையில்லாமல் இருக்கிறேனே; தமஸ்கு ஊரானாகிய இந்த எலியேசர் என் வீட்டு விசாரணைக்கர்த்தனாய் இருக்கிறானே என்றான்.

2. But Abram said, 'Lord and King, what can you give me? I still don't have any children. My servant Eliezer comes from Damascus. When I die, he will get everything I own.'

3. பின்னும் ஆபிராம்: தேவரீர் எனக்குப் புத்திரசந்தானம் அருளவில்லை; இதோ என் வீட்டிலே பிறந்த பிள்ளை எனக்குச் சுதந்தரவாளியாய் இருக்கிறான் என்றான்.

3. Abram continued, 'You haven't given me any children. So a servant in my house will get everything I own.'

4. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தை அவனுக்கு உண்டாகி: இவன் உனக்குச் சுதந்தரவாளியல்ல, உன் கர்ப்பப்பிறப்பாயிருப்பவனே உனக்குச் சுதந்தரவாளியாவான் என்று சொல்லி,

4. Then a message came to Abram from the Lord. He said, 'This man will not get what belongs to you. A son will come from your own body. He will get everything you own.'

5. அவர் அவனை வெளியே அழைத்து: நீ வானத்தை அண்ணாந்துபார், நட்சத்திரங்களை எண்ண உன்னாலே கூடுமானால், அவைகளை எண்ணு என்று சொல்லி; பின்பு அவனை நோக்கி: உன் சந்ததி இவ்வண்ணமாய் இருக்கும் என்றார்.

5. The Lord took Abram outside and said, 'Look up at the sky. Count the stars, if you can.' Then he said to him, 'That is how many children you will have.'

6. Abram believed the Lord. The Lord accepted Abram because he believed. So his faith made him right with the Lord.

7. பின்னும் அவர் அவனை நோக்கி: இந்தத் தேசத்தை உனக்குச் சுதந்தரமாகக் கொடுக்கும்பொருட்டு, உன்னை ஊர் என்கிற கல்தேயருடைய பட்டணத்திலிருந்து அழைத்துவந்த கர்த்தர் நானே என்றார்.

7. He also said to Abram, 'I am the Lord. I brought you out of Ur in Babylonia. I wanted to give you this land to take as your very own.'

8. அதற்கு அவன்: கர்த்தராகிய ஆண்டவரே, நான் அதைச் சுதந்தரித்துக்கொள்வேன் என்று எதினால் அறிவேன் என்றான்.

8. But Abram said, 'Lord and King, how can I know I will take this land as my own?'

9. அதற்கு அவர்: மூன்றுவயதுக் கிடாரியையும், மூன்றுவயது வெள்ளாட்டையும், மூன்றுவயது ஆட்டுக்கிடாவையும், ஒரு காட்டுப்புறாவையும், ஒரு புறாக்குஞ்சையும், என்னிடத்தில் கொண்டுவா என்றார்.

9. So the Lord said to him, 'Bring me a young cow. Also bring a goat and a ram. All of them must be three years old. Bring a dove and a young pigeon along with them.'

10. அவன் அவைகள் எல்லாவற்றையும் அவரிடத்தில் கொண்டுவந்து, அவைகளை நடுவாகத் துண்டித்து, துண்டங்களை ஒன்றுக்கொன்று எதிராக வைத்தான்; பட்சிகளை அவன் துண்டிக்கவில்லை.

10. Abram brought all of them to the Lord. Abram cut them in two. He placed the halves opposite each other. But he didn't cut the birds in half.

11. பறவைகள் அந்த உடல்களின்மேல் இறங்கின; அவைகளை ஆபிராம் துரத்தினான்.

11. Then large birds came down to eat the dead bodies of the animals and birds. But Abram chased the large birds away.

12. சூரியன் அஸ்தமிக்கும்போது, ஆபிராமுக்கு அயர்ந்த நித்திரை வந்தது; திகிலும் காரிருளும் அவனை மூடிக்கொண்டது.

12. As the sun was going down, Abram fell into a deep sleep. A thick and terrible darkness covered him.

13. அப்பொழுது அவர் ஆபிராமை நோக்கி: உன் சந்ததியார் தங்களுடையதல்லாத அந்நிய தேசத்திலே பரதேசிகளாயிருந்து, அத்தேசத்தாரைச் சேவிப்பார்கள் என்றும், அவர்களால் நானூறு வருஷம் உபத்திரவப்படுவார்கள் என்றும், நீ நிச்சயமாய் அறியக்கடவாய்.

13. Then the Lord said to him, 'You can be sure of what I am about to tell you. Your children who live after you will be strangers in a country that does not belong to them. They will become slaves. They will be treated badly for 400 years.

14. But I will punish the nation that makes them slaves. After that, they will leave with all kinds of valuable things.

15. 'But you will die in peace. You will join the members of your family who have already died. You will be buried when you are very old.

16. நாலாம் தலைமுறையிலே அவர்கள் இவ்விடத்துக்குத் திரும்ப வருவார்கள்; ஏனென்றால் எமோரியருடைய அக்கிரமம் இன்னும் நிறைவாகவில்லை என்றார்.

16. 'Your children's grandchildren will come back here. That is because the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached the point where I must judge them.'

17. சூரியன் அஸ்தமித்து காரிருள் உண்டானபின்பு, இதோ, புகைகிற சூளையும், அந்தத் துண்டங்களின் நடுவே கடந்துபோகிற அக்கினிஜூவாலையும் தோன்றின.

17. The sun set and darkness fell. Then a burning torch and a fire pot filled with smoke appeared. They passed between the pieces of the animals.

18. On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram. He said, 'I am giving this land to your children after you. It reaches from the river of Egypt to the great river Euphrates.

19. It includes the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites,

20. ஏத்தியரும், பெரிசியரும், ரெப்பாயீமியரும்,

20. Hittites, Perizzites and Rephaites.

21. எமோரியரும், கானானியரும், கிர்காசியரும், எபூசியரும் என்பவர்கள் இருக்கிறதுமான இந்தத் தேசத்தை உன் சந்ததிக்குக் கொடுத்தேன் என்றார்.

21. The Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites also live there.'
